Realistically you need fast movers with a ranged attack to get the most out of ambushers. The obvious choice being Centigors, though sadly the rules writers anticipated this and limited Beastmen to one ambushing unit of them. Potentially a small unit of ambushing Minotaurs could be interesting, but every turn they don't arrive, the chances they make their points back diminishes exponentially. Sadly anything else in ambush just seems like a waste of points that ultimately won't accomplish much.

hey sorry if this isn't the place to ask but question about hand weapons and old world. so hand weapons say "Unless specified otherwise, all models are assumed to be equipped with a hand weapon." does this mean even if "hand weapon" or "counts as hand weapon" isn't listed in an equipment list that unit still has a hand weapon? Example, and probably a bad one due to being legacy army, kroxigors only have great weapons listed no hand weapons. Can they not use hand weapons then, or does the hand weapon line add them even if they're not since nothing else as far as i can find would prevent them from having hand weapons.
edit: asked on stream and got response that yes they would since it says everyone has them. thanks for everything you guys do.
To the best of my knowledge they do count as having hand weapons, yes

That Beastmen 'Ambush' rule, the one that lets them attack you from the rear, is BS. Frenzied Khorne beastmen ambushers sweep, it's ridiculous.
