      For real though if you decide to get into FPV you can be making shots like that within your first 10-20 hours of stick time (though flying over water might not be a risk you actually want to take until much later), it can be fairly affordable to get into and can be a lot of fun. Some of the best information out there comes from KababFPV's channel amongst many others.

    • @justuslm
      @justuslm 4 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      Yeah, in the forest and river segments, the DJI drone could even have done pretty much exactly what the FPV drone did; with the gimbal in FPV mode you'd even get the camera tilt if that is what you want. Also, some of the FPV shots had a dolly zoom effect added in post, that could easily have been done with the DJI footage, too.
      This does go to show that the person or people doing the cinematography matter a lot more for the end result than the tools they are using.

    • @brandonwarren8351

      Can't my DJI fly fpv same as this? This video is all lies.

    • @justuslm
      @justuslm 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@brandonwarren8351 No, it can't. While FPV technically only means you are using goggles, in the context of drones it is commonly used when talking about what are essentially race drones. The main difference is in how the software controls the drone and handles your input. Your DJI drone holds its position using GPS, even in ATTI mode it still stays level and holds the altitude.
      Some FPV drones can do these things, too, but most pilots usually fly in acro mode, where all the drone does is maintain its current orientation, so if you tilt it forwards and let go of the stick, the drone will stay tilted forwards. This makes it harder to keep stable, but ultimately allows you to do more things, which is what this video tries to show off (but it significanly under-represents what the DJI drone can do).
      FPV drones can also be fitted with gimbals to get level, more stable footage, but this limits the maneuverability and removes the ability to go inverted, because the gimbal won't follow fast movements or go upside down.
      This means that filming with a stabilized drone such as DJI's drones or with an FPV drone is always different.

    • @brandonwarren8351
      @brandonwarren8351 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@justuslm all I'm saying is you could of closed the gap big time between the two videos, IMO. Fpv mode would get you way closer to the same video as the other.

  • @Infinite_Ouroboros

    Only thing DJI drones have is insanely better battery life. FPV is versatile, build a quad for whatever style you want to film. Crashing/upgrading is not a problem with fpv as parts are easily swapped and won't cost you as much as a dji drone repair. However, fpv has a large initial cost and a massive skill curve while dji is basically plug and fly, paying for the convenience.

  • @dempa3
    @dempa3 5 ปีที่แล้ว +15

    Stunning shots! Great pilots and videographers! Wonderful sound editing too! Really nice video! Just a note: If you are interested in DIY electronics projects then build your own! Even if you are very new to all these things, there are really great teachers on TH-cam that go through all of the intricacies and direct their videos to complete beginners. You should also know that you can build an FPV drone that is more easy to fly too (with features such as return to home, position hold, height hold, etc). But if you are not in the least interested in working with electronics then a solution like DJI or something similar might be the right thing for you.
    About the price. DJI products are pricey and you can build a budget FPV drone/quadcopter. But to become such a great pilot as Petit Soldat, you will need to fly a lot and to push your boundaries, which means that you will crash, and you will have to replace parts, and that adds to the cost. On the other hand, if you search long enough, you could probably find a good DJI Phantom 3 and buy it for a good price from someone who lost his/her interest in it.
    Hope this can be of any help to someone interested!

    I think we all agree that both drone types have unique abilities that the other one can't perform or have difficulty performing. I would have liked to see how close either one could get to the other's primary/unique abilities. For instance have the Phantom fly fast/low over the water (why didn't it even try?)...and also introduce that feeling of banking/flying in post (easy to do).

  • @mattr8825
    @mattr8825 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Loved they video. They both produced great footage, but I honestly still prefer the DJI as a film making tool. The slower movement and ability to hover allow the DJI to focus on a subject and keep it framed properly, which tends to be what you need when making films, especially travel vlogs and documentaries where you are wanting to focus on a specific subject. The FPV drone was awesome, but the sweeping shots and fast motion make it difficult to keep the subject framed and can distract from what you are trying to film. I think they both have a place in the perfect kit, but I would still get more mileage from the DJI.

    There is no doubt that both of the pilots are at the top of their game. But there are things that the DJI cannot do, that the FPV quad can, like the side shot of the car at speed. But I can't think of anything that the DJI can do that the FPV can't. The obvious answer is an FPV quad with a stabilized gimbal, and a switch on the transmitter to turn the stabilization on and off, and lock the gimbal at neutral. Or the same switch on a Phantom 4-series DJI, which can use the DJI goggles. It just won't have the same level of performance.

    • @PetitSoldat

      To go slower, you juste have to set an appropriate camera tilt! the engine tilt + the throttle is how you deal with your speed in FPV ;)

    • @Gienbfu
      @Gienbfu 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Lonath Senevirathne most of the cliff diving stuff is basically impossible with a gimbal style drone. He also didn’t have it in this video but chasing cars is another strong suit of fpv. DJI style drones have a big advantage in stability and camera range of motion. For example, you couldn’t get a shot looking straight down with an fpv drone without also being moving down. Another advantage that may not be obvious is flight time, fpv drones typically get about 4-7 minutes of flight time, usually depending on how hard you are pushing it, so things like a time lapse are completely out of the question.
