I'm from Switzerland and "Hirsch" Tuning is most commonly here and the "Hirsch Garage in St. Gallen" is just 40 km away from where I live :)
Switzerland is a beautiful country ... 👍
I'm from USA and I had my 2006 Saab 93 tuned up at the Saab dealer
@@mcdonald2037 and they make better quality cars than America
They are quality indeed! Nowadays they tune AMG and Lamborghini's... always funny when you see an OG 9000 standing between all the Lamborghini's there :)
That’s pretty cool!
I have 93ss vector (EU) B207L, MY2003 with Maptun Stage7+, AP racing brake kit, etc... After several tunes, first Abbott Racing Stage1 and the AP Racing brake kit, then Nordic Uhr Stage 2 and finally I went to Maptun.
Abbott Racing was the first one to provide tune for the ECU of the 9-3ss (from 175bhp to 210bhp) and it was a little bit problematic. They need to add an adapter to one of the intake sensors and required a new wastegate actuator of the GT20 turbo. This caused additional headaches, on the Turbo wastegate as at the end the axle of the wastegate breaks, it was too hard the actuator. I decided to change for Nordic Uhr Stage 2, ECU and Ferrita cat back exhaust. It was 235bhp/375NM. Also headaches, with overboost issues. I wanted to improve the tune and increase the stage and also the AP racing kit they offer. But after several requests and no answers I basically give-up (nonexistence customer service).
I went to Maptun, the customer service it's been always amazing, the options and also quick customization, if needed. I went for a Stage 3+, Turbo TD04 and Ferrita Downpipe, around 250bhp. I had an issue with the exhaust valves, due a crack in the exhaust manifold and after some review by the Saab dealer the issue was the nordic Uhr tune, due the excessive boost and GT20 turbo unable to manage the torque and power, it begun to create too much pressure on the exhaust system.
I took the chance to improve afterwards the Maptun stage, to upper levels and accessories (front strut bar, leather interior, parts, etc..). Ferrita exhaust had some cracks after a couple of thousand of miles and changed under warranty and without asking them. Same with an issue with a Maptun TD04 turbo, changed under warranty after some years after purchase with a new one and under warranty. I had issues with the gearbox, Maptun delivered me a new one and installed the LSD quaife for a great price.
At the end, If I need to choose I am clear that Maptun is one of the best ones by far.
You have a manual gearbox or at?
@@maxb3000 Manual 5 speed, F35//FM55. One of the most noticeable upgrades, beyond the "power", are the AP racing brakes and the quaife LSD, the car changes night and day.
Wow! Good comment. Thanks for sharing!!
I've been running a Stage 0 tune by V-Tune for 18 months. Took my Aero CV from 250-255(?) to 300hp on 91 octane. When the weather is cooler it's a beast. I got it because I didn't need any bolt on mods. I'm very happy with the tune. I put new Bosch coils and NGK spark plugs on before the tune, so no problems.
But of course there's always more hp to squeeze out of this wonderfully engineered V-6. I stepped up and got the V-Tune Stage 2+ which will give me over 400hp😲! (Maybe 450hp!) I'm going to be putting it on this coming week. Bigger fuel injectors, and bigger turbo, KN filter.
Once I have the tune installed I'll record some data on the handheld and Brian will help me tweak the tune. I expect my SAAB will go from beast to monster. I'll have to learn how to drive it with that much horse power. Maybe do some burnouts in from of the Sheriffs substation?🤣
Haha nice!! Glad to hear
Hi, is the car still in a good condition after one year with the tunes that you've made? I'm asking because I want to tune up my car too. I also put the Bosch coils and the NGK's but some people advised me to change the timing chains first before I do the tune and also to keep watching the clutch afterwards because the new torque pretty much would more quickly reduce the lifespan of it. Or I should not bother about the chains unless I don't hear them rattle? What are your thought considering these topics too?
Thanks in advance!
@@PlamenPetrovPacistyleCom Everything runs great. Huge horse power increase. You don't need to change the internals or the timing chains at all, unless they are already failing before the tune. Don't ride the clutch and it will be fine. Just change out the ERG and PVC valves so pressure flows normally through the engine.
I used Snail and he did a great job, hands on and person person, he takes his time and guarantees results..he's in Sarasota, Fl..
thanks for sharing your experience !
Swedefleet tuning. Based in Colorado. I’m getting an e85 stg3 from him. The package includes injectors and fuel pump. 380pound feet of torque at the wheels.
$600 for this tune
Good tips thanks
Vermont turning. Super knowledgeable Saab tuner.
👍🏼👊🏼
Pedros performance is something special on the v6
Yup that single turbo conversion is no joke.
So I’ve heard!
Here in the UK I use Noobtune. He's mapped all 4 of my saabs and never had any problems. Dose stage 1-2-3 and custom.
Nice!
I'm fr ok m Australia my 1.8t has the noobtune on it stock injectors amd exhaust. It's quicker than my 2007 vector 6 speed which has the tdo4 14t turbo and the b207r motor with the bsr tune on it .the linear only got the tdo4 11tk3 .I'm getting 0 to 100 kmh in 6.7 seconds with a fair bit of wheel spin so there's room to improve ..will definitely be going to karl again when I upgrade my exhaust and injectors and get a bigger turbo and intercooler.Even with express postage from Australia it's far cheaper than any other tuners I've looked at and has also been really helpful when I've had many questions to ask about things he's always taken the time to give me a full run down on what he knew .couldn't be happier with the performance I'm getting out of this little 93 it's a little weapon ...I've had a brand new crate motor put in about 12 months ago and about to get the Kinugawa 19t turbo for it with a down pipe and full exhaust and get the d088 intercooler and pipe work.dome and looking at the snow meth and water boost cooler
I have Maptun Stage 1 on my 2008 2.8T 9-3 Aero SS and Hirsch Stage 1and on my 2011 2.0T 9-5 NG. If you live in California this is important - The next time you get your emissions inspection you will fail and the car will be prohibited from running on any road unless the car has the California Air Resources board certification with the software. Only Hirsch carries that certification as far as I know. I've had great experience with the Hirsch software and customer service as I have from Maptun. The Maptun is particularly strong in the V6 with an exceptionally smooth power curve. But, to pass certification in California,I'm going to have to use the Maptuner X to restore the original engine management software. So, if you're in California, Hirsch is the easiest and possibly the only legal option for now. This is all a result of VW/Audi and "diesel gate".
Yeah, but there’s no way for them to know it’s tuned lol
@@AutoAutopsy There actually is. They read the software code as the emission test involves checking the ECU. Anything other than California air resources board certified ECU will fail. It's even if the tailpipe emissions are clean
@@brucepoch5789 Many months later here, but thanks for this info! My OG 9-3 is getting S1 or 2 MapTun here in Mass. soon, but I've been wondering what I'd do if I ever brought the car back to Calif.
Snail is an awesome place just a guy his girlfriend and one mechanic who was raised on Saabs. Have built a great relationship and friendship with them in building my car, I have their custom Downpipe and “stage 3” tune 295hp 300tq in my 08 9-3 2.0T I blew a spark plug on the highway got my car towed to the shop. Me and the mechanic ryan went over to autozone and got me some new spark plugs and easy peasy just like that after a quick tech 2 scan. I knew it was misfire just wasn’t sure what cylinder it was on. But overall great people who do great work.
Personaly went with MPS tuning. I am beating 370z's and supercharged frs's roll racing with only a stage 1. Boost gauge reads 20psi and then tapers to 17 or 18. She's a monster. First car came with BSR stage 1 and it wasn't as fast. I'm at 157k miles and been tuned since 102k. No problems yet as of now (knock on wood) but I'm on OEM clutch so I'm starting to see some slip after constant and heavy pulls.
You need to remember to change your oil.
Even if you don't drive it that much because of the heavy use and sludge buildup that can happen.
I recommend changing oil at least once a year.
There’s no way you can beat 370z?? I had his tune and barley walk a 350z DE on stage 1
I have a 2006 2.0T 5 speed manual so more aggressive gearing than the 6 speed and I have to shift less I also have lighter wheels and tires because God even the 16 in linear wheels weigh 22 pounds I also took out the spare and all the tools so 2006 base model Saab weighs 3175 minus the weight savings let's call it 3100 even. 370z weighs 3386 plus this guy had some off brand bigger wheels so I got him by over a car. Another one that was stick shift and was throwing flames was much closer that was only half a car edging out out after 110 until the 135 limiter then we both let off. My car doesn't have heated seats or any other creature comforts but it's light and that's what matters for my uses. But the proof is in the pudding I'm thinking of adding a side mounted go pro like some of the sleeper channels do but do we really need the prices going up more than they have recently? That's what stops me but I just might get some kill vids and show my stock downpipe and intercooler as well.
Lol nice!
Needed this list to start my journey with my 2001 Saab 95
I have a 9-3 sc -08 B207E Biopower with 330hp, it´s been reprogramed by Mackanized & Co and it runs like a dream. Before this Nordic performance did stage 1 and 2+ and that worked nice too. Don´t forget Maptun, that´s my top 3 Saab tuners. Keep it running/ Marcus from Sweden :)
map tun is amazing and always my go-to! I've tuned about 30 cars for them, including some of my own!
I got a stage 3 tune from Tuning by MPS for my 08 9-5 2.3t a couple of months ago. I have just about every bolt-on improvement you can think of (with the exception of the catback exhaust - I do have a 3" downpipe from Krona, though) on my car that justified the stage 3 tune. Since it hasn't run in almost 2 years, I can't tell you how good it is, but at least the ECM is communicating with the car. I will say about MPS that he is not as communicative as I would have liked. He stopped responding to emails at a certain point, and didn't even notify me when he shipped the unit back.
Interesting, thanks for sharing your experience!
I have one of if not the last stage 3 from Brew City Boost in my 9-3 se convertible. I was very pleased with the company and with the power output of the tune. I know they don’t do Saab’s anymore. But if you come across one of their ECUs on eBay be sure to pick it up. The requirements for their tunes are still on the way back machine. It’s mostly all just bolt on equipment. They were a great company to deal with at the time. And have offered me limited support for the tune over the phone even though it’s technically not supported at all. I never got the car dynoed and don’t plan on but the power feels strong and not overwhelming. Though I may source a viggen rescue kit to try and deal with the torque steer. Maybe.
Saab Love!❤️🇸🇪
Great tips! Thanks for sharing
When I bought our 9-5 Aero in 2015 (2002 model) it came with a factory new engine and Maptun stage 1. The check engine light came up during the trip home. After buying an OBD reader it showed P0420 and these have showed up ever since, in spite of new AFR sensors and recently a new throttle body. I addition the car is on the thirsty side. I haven't come to contacting them about it but it was a bit of a downturn. After errasing the fault code and flooring it the car is blistering fast.
Lol nice
Po420 is a exhaust error I think, at least it is on the 9-3’s
Brian (vtuner) is great running currently running stage 2+ full E85 kit so I’m pushing over 500ish crank hp thing is a monster .
Nice!
In North Carolina, I recommend Superior Performance, formally know as Swedish Performance. Im very pleased with the tune on my 2011 9-5 6t
They’re great!
Well, there are a few different ways/types of tuning, basically they change some Values in the engine mapping, think of it as a geographic map with mountains, peaks and valleys, (for those who have played Minecraft or know about 3D coordination systems, X is revs and Z is load and Y is Air/boost pressure or Fuel or Air Fuel ratio depending on which “layer” of the map you look at).
Where it varies is how they change the values, some ECU’s (or ECM’s if you are from Volvo land, like i am) aren’t flash able and require that you take them apart and physically change a chip or chips, most ECU’s/ECM’s nowadays are flash able, by flashing a ECU/ECM your replacing the software inside of the OEM engine control module.
Than there are the Piggy back systems, where you plug in a module between the ECM and the engine it self, the module “intercepts” changes the values that the ECM see’s, basically tricking the stock ECM.
Than there are also “stand alone’s” (after market replacement ECMs) which are ECMs specially made for tuning and are made to be tweaked and re-flashed over and over again. Those are super expensive, but give you full control.
And that was my dumb attempt at explaining tuning.
Haha no, very well said!! Thanks for the explanation
I’m sad Brew city boost quit tuning Saabs because I had a stage 2 tune on my 07 aero swapped 03 9-5 aero and that tune was BRUTAL. It would squeal the tires at 30mph it you matted it in sport mode. I bought my 06 9-5 right before they quit tuning Saabs and was really bummed so I did some digging in Facebook groups and was recommended “MPS Tuning” by a few members. Their tuner claimed he made better power and power curves than brew city boost, but the butt dyno says otherwise. My BCB stage 2 gave you that “punch to the gut” feeling whenever you floored it, the MPS feels maybe slightly more powerful over stock, but not by much. My fuel economy went up with MPS so I won’t complain, but I feel their tune felt about the same as “saabtunerscott” on eBay, who is significantly cheaper.
I looked up saabtunerscott and it seems to be legit, have you had any issues with his tune? might get a stage 1 for my 9-5 aero
Thanks for sharing!
@@romyan5382 what did you end up doing
Old video, but I just wanted to give a shout-out to Snail (who is mentioned in this) - he did what we're calling a "stage 1+" ECU tune on my 2.0 9-3 SS yesterday and it's a fantastic tune. On the one hand, it still feels like "my car" and is a comfortable ride, on the other hand it pulls markedly harder and is markedly faster. Exactly what I was looking for.
oh cool
MPS idk if you mentioned or not maybe I just missed it and Ryan King is a custom tuner. He's DECENT
👍🏼👊🏼
Maptun all the way. They are Saab specialists and have their own range of performance parts which are based on extensive research and testing. I’m on Stg3 and am in the process of ordering Stg4 with turbo upgrade 😃 for my V6.
👍🏼😁
a lot saying! BUT where r the numbers
Nice new studio ! Some echo but nice place👍🏻 Here the most tuners are Maptune and Hirsch. Greets from Holland.
Thanks! 😁
Can anyone tell me what kind of effect on fuel consumption a stage 1 tune on a 2.0 would have?
The XWD obviously hampers the performance, but as it's already a thirsty beast, I'd hate to make it even more so.
I've actually gotten better MPG with my stage one tune from vtuner on my fwd 2.0, i would imagine you'd also see an improvement
Yeah my fuel consumption improved a bit when i got my tune
For anyone considering going with maptun, DO NOT! If you want to make more power, have a fantastic diagnostic tool, and great support please go Vtuner, Brian is a Saab expert and his tune costs the same as a maptun stage 1 but makes more hp and way more torque.
I honestly love my stage 3 from BSR, it really woke up my 2.0T
👍🏼😁
Yeah had alot of problems with jzw but skyyy tuning is good check out the numbers I put up tko predator 2.8T not bad at all

T8 are quite easy to tune, and you can read/ write the file yourself. i offer to tune your file if you want it, for free. just so you can see what the trionic community can do
If you'd take a little fee I'd like the file updated on my 06 9³ 2.0T. Currently running a stage 2 file but added a downpipe and intercooler and could benefit from a remap.
Yeahhh some people don’t want to bother with trying to tune themselves tho!
Their is also MPS tuning out of Wilkes Barre PA that do Saab performance tunes! Did some research on them! Thanks for the video
Good addition!
Unfortunately, I had to remove my ECU tuned by MPS, Car never ran the same after, and had all of the GOOD supporting mods. MPS was great at first but didn’t offer much help or insight after initial purchase.
@@kstitham I've had the same tune on my girls 07 9-3 an been running fine..along with aftermarket air intake an running 93 supreme..sorry you didn't get the same results I did
@@slappinturbos1472 I’m glad it worked out for you. My car was a great runner absolutely 0 issues. Perfect compression. Brand new OEM ignition tune up. It absolutely dumps fuel. It runs so rich. To the point the car will flood itself out and smell horrible. This only happened the moment I got my ecu back.
I'm glad to hear vtuned as one of the first named off. I bought an 05 9-3 Linear in NC to swap in the motor for my 03 Linear, and the guy gave me a tech 2 full kit and also a vtuned module for my model and I have yet to get windows xp for my tech 2 so I can tune my ECU to stage 3 (security access) but I'm gonna try for asap cause I'd love to get that extra power in my 2.0 like yours does. Great videos man! Thanks for all the insight from here in ALABAMA

Can I choose more than one and then just switch whenever I want to?
Hey AA question in the Maptun - where you able do both your cars and others in the Phoenix group using the maptuner alone or did you have to purchase each car’s license separately? Looking at getting a loaner for my friend and I but the website is asking for a vins and friend seems to thing we can do both from the same software.
Check out the saab forums ! I've got a noobtune file on my 06 BLS 2.0T aero and i love it .

As funny as it is, I have a 2004 9-3 Aero and I have a BSR stg 2 tune. I also work for Genuine Saab/Taliaferro Imports and Nick (the owners son) used to tune a ton of Saabs. I was really hoping to get a custom tune from him but he has too many other things in the pipeline so that’s why I went with BSR. It’s not bad and really helped me scratch that itch I’ve had. I’m looking to get a downpipe and a few other things and hopefully Nick will teach me how to tune these things in the near future. We have a dyno and I’m curious to see what I’m setting at. Anyway, one thing I will say is BCB (Brew city boost) is something I would be careful about. I heard they went out of business but the amount of phone calls and emails we got about peoples cars acting up near the end of their life was kinda sus. I don’t like to steer people away from Saab supporters but I did warn a few people who were thinking about it, but always told them I don’t have any experience with bcb except what our customers and other fellow Saab peps tell us.
nice! that must be cool. I have heard mixed things about BCB
Mackanized (Mackan) is the one in sweden to go to. Defenetly the one that does the best programs in europé.

Thanks for the recommendation!
Ok so I know this video was posted a while ago and maybe you won’t read this but I have a 2010 9-5 aero and I want to get a maptune for it…so you know if it’s compatible with my car?
check map tun's website. they should have tunes for the NG 9-5
I would like to do tuning cpu on my saab 03 arc to increase horses 😊
👍🏼👊🏼
What wheels are those?
What octane number fuel do you guys in USA safely use when upgrading to Stage 1?
Here in EU we mostly have 95 or 98 (petrol with 10% or 5% added ethanol).
Tuner's recommendation when using Stage1 or beyond, is 98 octane. I understand in US octane nr is lower? Does that affect Tune or performance?
No the gas itself is the same. Our 91 is equivalent to your 95/98. It’s weird. Idk why we label it differently! I always run 91
Surprised to not see Noobtune on this list, especially for T7, but I digress. Dont use Bald Eagle Performance, he has a really bad name in the 2.8 community for screwing someone over by essentially blowing up a 2.8 in an attempt to make it twin (sequential) turbo'd and then selling it as if it just need a coil pack to run right. Otherwise, Pedro's Performance is run by Gabriel Acosta, a legendary Saab 2.8 Wizard who consistently takes his 2.8s to 700whp and beyond. Aura Tuning is the company behind Gary Anderson's legendary 2.8 Combi that is tracked almost daily and makes huge power. Vermont Tuning (or VTuner) is run by Brian Blair, and he has been tuning Saabs for decades. He is most known for his 2.8 tunes, but he does 2.0s and NG9-5s in addition to other brands. I have personally used him for two cars now, one a FBO 2.8 9-3 and the other a 2.0 NG9-5. I stand by his work , and I truly cannot describe how excellent his customer service is. He will take a look at logs whenever you want and give feedback, and will give feedback on parts choices and the like via phone and email.
Good tips. Thanks!

Custom tune is always best. Anyone who can do custom tune and tune on the dyno is 100% better than any chip what maptun etc sells.
Assuming the custom tuner is familiar with the platform. I’ve heard some bad things about people trying to custom tune and running into issues!
Shure. Any engine is slghtly different. Any tuning then
requires a proper adaption on the dyno. And remind
also to tune the brakes, not only the acceleration.

Nobody should tune a Saab. Especially u.s. as they common
drive 60 mph on highways. For what then you need 300 hp?
It's not the german Autobahn with partially unlimited speed.
And, as more you tune, or try to, as more the car mechanics
will be raised to its limits.
When tuning, then a Honda. Some japanese tuners squeeze
a full 100 hp more out of the 2 litre engine because the whole
engine and drive is improved and adapted. Japanese engines
have the necessary reserves upwards from factory. With Saab
i would be more cautious with. They are usually released by the
factory up to 350 Nm torque 250 hp.
you must like slow cars
