Which regional variant is your favorite? ....You probably don't need to guess mine lol
I'd probably say Hisuian Zoroark
Galarian Darmanatan
Alolan Ninetails
Don’t need to guess mine either😅
@@masonmcmahon512 Hisuian samurrot I take it?
BANGER THUMBNAIL
Am I again the first reply to Zac?
@@CaptainvonDoreyes
They should've changed unovan Zoroark stats to match Hisui
I agree
What if genders, breeding, and baby forms existed sooner in Gen 1? While Regional Variants in Gen 2?
Hisuian Zoroark has THREE immunities, actually. It's awesome.
Plus 5 resistances! Stacks REALLY well with Illusion!
Can use it to easy cheese a lot of fighting teams
It completely shuts down the former perfect coverage combo of Fighting + Ghost, too...
My Aegislash set back in Gen 6 would have been so mad
Running both versions of Zoroark on the same team is insanely fun to play with and against.
When it comes to Zoroark, I'd say both are just as good as each other, depending on how you utilise them, after all, Hisuin Zoroark goes down from 1 "easy to guess its zoroark" Sucker Punch!
1:21 slight correction
4 move slot syndromes is when 4 move slot is not enough to cover all the basis for a Pokémon to do their job. Muk is run qs bulky pokemon that can throw a few puches. Muk want to run Curse for set up, Poison Jab for STAB, Fighting, Ice, or Ghost move for coverage, Rest for recovery and Explosion for burst damage on bulky mons.
Finally i found someone saying it like i started questioning myself and my own thoughts and memories if i remembered it right or what .
@@justauser_
I think he was making a joke. Like, what the first guy said is what the actual meaning of 4MSS is, so that's what we'd expect it to be, and then we get sucker punched with a description that could be a valid meaning for the term but is the exact opposite of the meaning we expected.
@DarkShadowOblivion oh ok that seems about right my bad for not understanding it 😅
@@DarkShadowOblivion
He also didn't say 4 Move Slot Syndrome, he specifically said 4 Move Syndrome
I've always really liked Alolan Raichu. There's just something so funny about the lore for its change is "it ate some pancakes and got Psychic powers". It probably isn't substanctially better but its still cool.
Its the only even semitollerable one and thats if and only if surf is learned.
Hisuian Pokémon are some of the best regional variants in the series, they are all outstanding designs and really feel like improvements on their base forms. Hisuian Zoroark is probably the most popular hisuian form outside of competitive which is obviously Hisuian Arcanine.
I’d agree but they butchered my boy Avalugg
@@danielscott606can’t butcher what was already chopped into pieces.
@@justabean5869It really didn't need more speed.
I liked that they all gotten signature moves too, it makes all prior regional alts seem lackluster by comparison.
@@danielscott606 they really had the chance to turn it from a table into a cliff or snowy mountain, but said nah, rocky legs and some shovel mouthparts
I have a soft spot for Alolan Marowak. I went through a run of X without ever evolving a Cubone in my party, so I could then move it to Sun and have an Alolan Marowak with the Kalos Champion ribbon. Just a silly little challenge I made for myself.
1:17 I'm pretty sure "Four Move Syndrome" means "You only have 4 moves to work with your more than four moves you need".
9:17 3 immunities; a Normal Ghost type is immune to Ghost type moves, Fighting type moves, and Normal type moves. :P
9:22 "3" Immunities, Normal, Fighting, and Ghost, giving it a single weakness in Dark
While Fire/Rock is terrible defensively, it's actually a very good offensive type combo, which is probably why Hisuian Arcanine is good. For reference, only the following type combos resist Fire/Rock:
Dragon/Fighting
Dragon/Ground
Fighting/Rock
Fighting/Water
Ground/Rock
Ground/Water
Not to mention you can easily just Tera it if you need to
5:27 made me spit out my drink. Love it
It’s weird to consider a Pokémon “saved” by a regional considering nothing about the original changes
The species name itself at least gets people remembering they exist, which is why many people were frustrated that they were originally giving regional forms just to Kanto Pokémon. Because the original 151 will never truly fade from the minds of gamers
@@vaporterraAh yes. Almighty dewgong, seaking, lickitung and venomoth. Game freak loves them so much that they don't deserve anything new.
@@vaporterrafar fetched is still pretty bad though.
@@olafmikoaj3121I mean, Lickilicky exists. The others you mentioned are pretty forgotten, though I can see why for Dewgong and Seaking: they're pretty boring designs.
@@rjd-kh8et It was left out for base games of the last 3 generations. It was in bdsp and legends because lickilicky is a gen 4 pokemon. But it can't even be caught in sinnoh games before postgame (excluding Grand underground). Lickitung is so fotgotten that it doesn't even have special lvl up moves while literally 90% of pokemon has at least one move they don't specialise in.
I'd say you forgot to mention how Raichu finally got its due in some way in an Alolan form, but only somewhat helped up through a Terrain sweeper role with a slightly boosted coverage. Also, you kinda forgot to bring up the Paldean forms, but then again, they've not had much time to really say in impact. Also find the regional evo siblings & how they may've helped up or avenged their fallen siblings (such as how Sneasler has been avenging Weavile, Kleavor helping Scizor, & how Clodsire could tagteam with Quagsire)
Being both ice and fairy is like stating "Im here to slay dragons"
These Pokemon really did need something to help them. Glad Game Freak did something to help. Ninetails has always been one of my favorites and its Alolan form has made it my all time fav
I'm not sure if I subscribe to the notion that these regional variants "helped" these pokemon.
For example, introducing Gallade didn't change anything for Gardevoir, it was simply a new pokemon that looked similar and shared an origin. Same with regional variants. Hisuian Zoroark changes nothing for OG Zoroark. For all intents and purposes, it's a new pokemon that just happens to look similar.
Don't get me wrong, I do think regional variants are cool. But unlike a new Evolution or a Mega, they change nothing for the OG, so I don't see how they are supposed to "help"
@@TheChiogthey were given a new version that people might actually want to use. Like Ninetails for example: before Alola, the only form you had was the pure Fire type. Now, you can have one that is Ice/Fairy. Two of the best types in terms of moves. See how a new form helps these Pokemon?
@@crimsonmaelstrom573 I don't think you understood what I was trying to say. Yes, Alonan Ninetails is cool. But its existence changes NOTHING for the OG Ninetails. It's effectively a completely new pokemon that simply looks similar to an existing one.
When OG Ninetails was given the ability to set up the sun on the other hand, that DID change something for it.
As I said, I do like these alternate forms as much as the next guy, but they aren't improvements, if anything, they are reboots.
Hisuian Zoroark has 3 immunities not 2... Ghost is immune to normal & fighting while normal is immune to ghost. I love using it against the fighting team star boss since having it disguises as a Pokemon weak to fighting can basically get me through the fight with 0 damage
Been breeding for shiny Hisuian Zorua for two days and finally hatched two this morning and I think my other favorite regionals have to be Hisuian Growlithe and Sneasel/Sneasler. Although I guess Sneasler is just a new mon but hey, it's too sassy to ignore and I love it. Regional forms are easily the best idea GF has had in years.
true
They weren't "saved", they were replaced by the regional variants. Kantonian Ninetales still sucks while alolan ninetales just takes over for it. Unless they buff the older pokemon they will stay where they are.
🤓
He’s forgetting about the “fun” gimmick where Alolan Muk runs a Smeargle paired moody evasion set
Shout out to Hisuian Goodra, it’s amazing how this guy managed to become one of my favourite Mons just by giving it a shell. Same with Paldean Tauros, I haven’t used one myself but it’s a great regional variant especially for the old kings Tauros
When looking at the Two Zoruarks…it’s like going from one Edgy Girl with issues…to another Edgy Girl with issues with a bit more.
Think Weezing deserves an honorable mention. Although it wasn’t saved by its new form, both getting Neutralizing Gas is pretty big.
Jebus cripes those menu noises were so loud they were almost like jumpscares
These pokémon weren't saved. If anything they were ruined.
Instead of actually fixing and saving the old forms, GF introduced new toys with the same name as the old ones. Old Farfetch'd and Corsola still sucks. Arcanine and Samurott are arguably worse as they're now outclassed by the new forms.
To truly save them, they'd have to get rework with new moves, stats and/or abilities (such as Gallade), or even give them an evolution! The Primeape you caught in FRLG might suck, but at least you can evolve it. Your Samurott starter from BW? Tough luck.
That meow from Landorus killed me! 😂
Saying that regional forms "saved" the original, is like saying that Street FIghter adding Evil Ryu into the game "saved" Ryu. If Ryu was a low tier but you liked his playstyle and then Evil Ryu was added who has a similar playstyle but is higher tier, it doesn't save Ryu because you're not playing Ryu. The original is still there, not being used. What's worse is that the regional form takes attention away from the original, which is made even worse when the regional form gets an exclusive evolution that the original doesn't have a counterpart for.
Absolutely true, man. Samurott, Zoroark and Muk are a pure example of this problem. Everyone love their regional forms, while original ones now is even more invisible than they have been. Like, you surely will always use Hisuian Samurott over original, right? It's cooler, stronger, has better typing, a much, much better ability with combination of broken signature move, better stat spread and again it just looks so good if comparing to original Samurott. And i just can't see it as a buff
@@fokspoks This regional form gimmick has bothered me since Sw/Sh. It feels less creative than just making a new pokemon designed to fill a similar niche to another pokemon. It would be more creative to me to just make a new pokemon and tie it back to the old pokemon that it resembles, like Feebas and Purrloin, who are much better executions of the concept of a pokemon that is like a regional counterpart to an existing mon. People constantly asking for regional forms (especially as a way to buff an outdated mon) is wild to me because we've reached the point where we're asking for pokemon to just make the same pokemon, but with less creativity.
I wish they just gave alolan dugtrio arena trap as well seeing as that has been kantonian dugtrio's whole competitive niche
I can't see these pokemon as being "saved" by their regional variant for exactly the reason of the thumbnail.
What exactly does the existence of a regional Muk, or Sirfetch'd or Cursola, do for the mon that's already in your box?
Did they get a stat change or new ability? Does Kantonian Grimer evolve into Alolan Muk? Or Johtoan Corsola into a Rock/Ghost Pokemon? Did Kantonian Farfetch'd get an Absir'd evolution, too? No stat boost or ability?
The answer is no to pretty much all of them, so in most cases it's not an improved old mon, it's effectively a new mon inspired by an old one.
🤓
Zoroark was always great and even has its own movie!
1:18 four move sindrome is literally the opposite tho. Its what you call a pokemon that has way too much useful coverage to fit in 4 moves
Considering the oshawott line is not only my favorite starter line but favorite Pokémon in general, I seriously couldn’t be happier over hisuian samurott finally making it competitively viable
Oshawott being your favourite starter should be some kinda crime
@@KingChaddii how? Atleast it’s not a bipedal Humanoid like Swampert & Emploen wearing a Tuxedo 💀
@@KingChaddii not respecting someone’s opinion should be a crime
Oshawott is a**, respect this
@a.x.x8184 Swanpert is top 3 water starters and it's not 3.
I genuinely have NO CLUE what they were thinking when they designed Lilligant... "Lets make a Grass Type that can only learn 90% grass moves, with zero coverage options!" Its one of my favorite Gen 5 designs, but its practically unusable outside of niche support, despite its high special attack. It makes me sad.
Hisuian Lilligant is way more viable, but its design is ugly (in my opinion at least... Its subjective) and takes away literally all the charm of the original. It barely even feels like the same Pokemon, and with its stats distributed for an entirely different playstyle they should have just made it a split evolution instead (like Gardevior and Gallade... Except not tied to gender since all Petilil are female).
Galarian Corsola is my favorite regional form. She's my screensaver and is my little sad Grey blob of death.
The Zoroark Disrespect is crazy, both forms are fire.
I don’t care what anyone says, Kleavor is one of my favorite new additions.
It’s faster than Scizor, hits harder, and can set stealth rock.
Sometimes I run both just because I can!
Is no-one going to mention Alolan Persian? Took a pokemon that was objectively massively underwhelming ever since the crit mechanics of gen 1 and made it a solid pokemon which got top 8 at worlds 2 years in a row just by giving it dark typing and a great ability in fur coat to go with the great speed stat it had already. If they hadn't screwed it over by letting a certain other cat share its ability to parting shot, it would probably still be seeing reasonable use now
Also, shout out to paldean Taurus, who gave Tauros the first competitive niche that wasn't a gimmick since roughly the gen 1 era - easily as much success as alolan muk, just wasn't blessed by having as long in a true regional format
My favorite Regional variants gotta be Alolan Ninetales it's so beautiful and elegant with a good type combo Ice/Fairy the ultimate Dragon Slayer,Hisiun Goodra being a Steel/Dragon type combo it looking like a derpy slug made it better then the original as well,Alolan Marawok just looks cool as well and ghosts type getting more love is cool,Hisuin Braviery has a better design, and Hisuin Zoroark.
Just a small nitpick but the term "4 move syndrome" dosen't mean that a mon lacks a lot of viable moves, but rather the opposite as it applies to a mon who has tons of options but can't fit them all into it's moveslot, for example how gliscor wants to fit all of roost, defog, knock off, u-turn and e.t.c but can't run all of them
My personal favorite regional form is Galarian Darmanatan
I think you misunderstood what "four move syndrome" is, because it's just the opposite of "just having four good moves". If I'm not mistaken, people use that term to talk about Pokémon that have many good moves but can't fit all of them at the same time, to the point they cannot fulfill a role correctly. That typical "ugh I had to sacrifice this good coverage move to have another good coverafe move"
I appreciate that HAIL 2 U referrence
I like the idea for a cross-gen evolution video
You got the exact opposite of what "four move syndrome" means. Pokes that have "four move syndrome" suffer because there's a lot of moves they wish they could run, but are forced to only hold 4 at a time, just like every other poke. It is difficult to pin down what exactly the best moveset for these types of pokemon because they have so many options. Even in the example you posted, Muk can only have 4 moves, but you showed a set with 8 possibilities.
Mew is an obvious example of one of these pokemon. Generally, pokemon that aren't amazing sweepers but do have many utility options will have this issue. Another example could be like Mandibuzz: Roost and Defog are must-haves, but everything from Taunt, Foul Play, U-Turn, Toxic, and Knock Off are really great candidates.
“Pokémon saved by regional forms” and its just replacements with game freak putting no effort into making it up to the original Pokémon.
Now if only we could get a bug-dragon regional variant for Flygon or Yanmega
Or just a unique Pokémon with that typing lol
Kanto Dugtrio is better than the Alolan one because of Arena Trap which is a pretty damn good ability
Except one thing:
The Pokemon in question weren't "saved", they were _replaced_ .
"Tired of your old Kantonian Farfetch'd who can evolve (outside of a Gen 2 beta build), who just serves as a bad Japanese joke? Well here's an angrier Galarian form who gains a BIGGER LEAK!!!"
And a artichokes shield
9:17 it is 3 immunities, ghost from normal and normal and fighting from ghost
Alolan Sandslash feels like a prototype convergent.
Alolan Ninetales so strong, it is still relevant in competitive even today. I use one in my team that climed the masterball rank in doubles in Violet today!
Jesus Christ! Calling Marowak a one trick orphan. Talk about layers. I'm dead just like Cubone's mom
I love hisuian Zoroark, but it always will be on my hearth the Zoroark movie with those epic shiny beasts
I luv regional forms but when a mon gets a new RF it kinda makes the original forgettable
Hi JPR.
Some corrections i'd submit :
Four moves slot syndrome (coz' i Never Heard of a four moves syndrome) is actually thé opposite : there are some much viable moves/sets to put on thé mon' that you'd liké it could run more than only four moves.
Exemple : M-Charizard X = Flare Blitz + Dragon Claw + Earthquaque + Dragon Dance ... I wish i had Roost too to neglecte Stealth Rock Cheap Dmg ...
For Muk, thé screenshot you show slashes options on the set, so it has many moves he Can chose for thé set 🧐.
Alolan Dugtrio is even worst than regular one cause it has'nt Arena Trap as a skill.
No says about Tauros of Paldea or Hisuian Goodra 😜?
Otherly, régional variants could be more explored upon.
Those who doesnt change thé base stat feels sad to me more so because Manau old 'mons could benefit alot by specialising instead of being all rounded UP (my poor Poliwrath 😭 ... A Ghost/Fightin spécial attacker one could be so cool!).
Mostly ginving them Signature moves and or abilities IS often good enough to boost them beside thé type change.
I thought Alolan Raichu got a huge buff over regular Raichu because of its Psychic type?
It also got three new weaknesses.
@@miikaroos3809being electric/psychic means it's one of the few pokemon that benefit from multiple terrains. However it benefits more from electric as it lacks expanding firce to take advantage of pyschic terrain. Its ability surge surfer doubles its speed when electric terrain is up meaning it goes from base 110 to base 220 speed with terrain. And while it also lacks rising voltage, it does come with electroball which works in tandem with surge surfer. Basically it's a ridiculously fast sweeper when electric terrain is up.
They weren't save, they just simply replace by better version😢. Why try to fix something when you can made new one
Starting probably with Gen8's Obstagoon, GameFreak really started making 'better versions' of Pokémon, instead of alternative versions. Obstagoon, Overqwil and Hydrapple are cool, sure, but they make Hoenn Zigzagoon, Johto Qwilfish and Flapple and Appletun just obsolete. I wish they'd find a way to make alternative evolutions without destroying the originals.
Paldean Tauros is better than original Tauros. I expected it to be here.
Hisuian zoroark just hits different
Always love getting a new JPR vid on my Friday drive home from work
Had no idea going into legends how much better samurott got and I just chose the water starter cuz I am not a fan of Rowlett line being slow and just not a fan of cyndaquil line in general. Thing was a beast and even more of one in sv
Would have loved if they buffed kanto-farfetchd . Like I like regionals but dang dude would love if the original mons got helped. Yes he got an atk increase to 95 but he needs an evo like his galar
I feel quilfish and farfetch have benefited the most
Lol Wolfe "cybertron" Rizzo...the ultimate pokemon master 😆
Extremespeed wasn't really an Arcanine signature move, Dratini could get it gen 2 as well and by extension Dragonite
Next Gen's Gimmick. Armoured 'War Form' Pokemon. Mainlined by 'WarCharizard' and 'BattleChu Pikachu'. XD
No mention of alolan Raichu :((
Regional varients are awesome. They do "Convergent evolution" wrong.... technically convergent evolition was around since gen 1... Pidgey and Zubat are an example, they both developed powered flight but likely in very different ways because of biology and environment. The new convergent pokemon are basically just regional forms but they wanted to pad out their smaller and smaller pokedex's
Great video, and I was literally just thinking Pokemon may have a gold mine with new forms. They wouldnt have to make a new generation for a while. Just make good stories and change some forms up for the already established different regions!
So Corsola and Zoroark are saved by turning into ghosts?
LOVE THE THUMBNAIL!!! Zoroark is my favorite Pokemon! Big fan! Have a nice day!
How is being replaced being saved exactly?
regional forms are nice. I wouldn't say it saved pokemon since pokemon has always done well. But regional forms do help promote and raise hype for games. However i think convergent species might replace regional forms since they are easier to explain than having to explain how a past regional form is appearing in current region every time. But maybe they continue doing regional forms. time will tell.
I was writing stories with a Ice Type Ninetails years before Alola came out.
Not sure any pokemon is saved by a regional form
If anything the reginal form just takes its place
They are completely different pokemon
3:30 Honestly, the fall of Ninetales was very predictable even all the way back from gen 5, of the 4 big weather setters in gen 5 (Abomasnow doesn't really count because lol Hail), it was far and away the worst one and the sun teams were also the most fragile in terms of teambuilding (only Sun Stall was a fairly consistent strategy). But Ninetales was almost always a hindrance to it's team, and as more and more of the things that made Sun bearable were banned, Ninetales just got cast further and further into the rabbithole (seriously, now that it cannot even Hypnosis, I dare say that Abomasnow is a better Pokemon in OU than Ninetales, at least you have the fringe option of Darmanitan + Victini to give a reason to play Sun but ....... Ninetales is complete deadweight). Even back in Gen 5 it was very apparent that the *instant* another sun setter came Ninetales would be cast to the shadow realm, that thing was *bad* . I am actually amazed at how little buffs the original form got throughout the years, it's actually insane how left behind it is (especially compared to Arcanine)
Glad Hisuain Arcanine and Zoruark are there as they are based on 2 of my 3 top favourite pokemon Arcanine like you is my favourite Zoruark joint 2nd with Tyranitar
0:56 Actually it’s worse since it doesn’t have Arena Trap.
I'd say Alolan Sandslash and Golem are probably a fair bit better than their originals at least as they are more unique and have less competition with their new typings. Sandslash in particular being much better with the changes to from Hail to Snow.
Alolan ninetails
Great video
I'd love to see a Pokémon saved by Cross Gen evo video
Eviolite Dusclops sure appreciates its
I never got into competitive battling, so I don't care how they far there. I care about Pokemon lore and Darwinian evolution in the Pokemon world, that is natural evolution and life changing slowly over a long period of time. Regional variants show that, and they are my favorite thing in Pokemon.
Arcanine's rise to glory is a dream come true!
Happy JPR Friday, have a good weekend everyone
Mega Evolutions are still the true saviors for third-stage or situational Pokemon who can evolve any further, or Pokemon that we're just denied evolutions for whatever reason.
When it comes to Zoroark, I'd say both are just as good as each other, depending on how you utilise them, after all, Hisuin Zoroark goes down from 1 "easy to guess its zoroark" Sucker Punch!
Hisuiuan Zoroark doesn't have 2 immunities..... it has 3.
Because Normal is immune to Ghost.
I just wish they’d stay consistent on how the names work. Why is it Hisuian Arcanine, but it’s Kleavor and Sneasler?
THUMBNAIL GO BRRRR
Can we just talk about that fact that galarian corsola dominated the early meta of Gen 8
Let's Tomorrow in BB LEAGUE
Not my favorite but I've grown fond of my Perrserker
Slight correction on your data. Hisuian Zoroark has THREE immunities, not two. Hisuian Zoroark is immune to Normal, Ghost, and Fighting. The latter of which was one of the three weaknesses OG zoroark had to deal with, meanwhile Hisuian zoroark only has one weakness, which ironically is Dark. As far as i know, Hisuian Zoroark is the ONLY pokemon to have a triple immunity built in. (Alolan Maroak, cool as it is, dosen't count as it needs an ability to get a triple immunity, whereas Hisuian Zoroark needs no such thing)
Literally any ghost flying, ghost ground, ghost steel, ghost dark?
Zoroark had a Normal & Ghost Type
Totally agree, i love regional variants.
Alolan Raichu. Period. Making a video on that cutie.
Shouldn’t hisuian zoraurk have three immunities normal fighting ghost
Oh my god where can I find this thumbnail to put it as a profile banner. As a zoroark fan it's too good
