These two guys are my favorites today….they are both beyond just good. Together they are a force to be reckoned with and may be the carriers of the Southern Rock genre. There are some other fine musicians that are in the same class, but Warren and Charlie are at the front of the class.
Such a timeless song that has been a crowd favorite in lots of different band's concerts over the years. It has been my all-time favorite song for many years and I have heard ABB do it, Tedeschi Trucks with Jack Pearson, Great Southern, Blackberry Smoke, Govt. Mule, and of course the new Betts and Allman collaboration. I read one time that Dickey wrote it for his girlfriend and later wife who was a Native American named "Blue Sky". Personally, I heard that Duane only played this song live 5 or 6 times before his death, and I have found and listened to maybe 3 of them. In Allman Bros style of course, all 3 are very different as Duane never played the same song the same way live. The 9-19-71 STUNY concert that you can find here on the TH-cam is pentatonic bliss! It was Duane and Dickey and Barry Oakley at their best, and of course the last time those 3 played together. Give it a listen and thank GOD for these people that keep this great music alive!!!
holy carp that is just so nice. could listen to that all day. there's just something right about good southern rock. how could it get any better than those two dudes together....
Thank you so much, Mr. Maguire for sharing with us this unique moment. Sometimes I hate who record concerts, but moments like that have to be registred.
What shines through on Warren, at all times is the influence Dickey had on his playing, but unlike 99% of USoNAan guitarists Warren has taken on and embraced other guitarists from all over the world. Gov't Mule plays such a wide range. Gotta love Charlie's LPJ, P90's rule!
hot rocks guys. Thanks Brendan for a totally brilliant clip. Lili Kiki in lockdown in France. Darn, when can I go see them again at a concert? Stay safe gals and guys.
Best? According to whom? What metrics are you using to determine who is best? If he is best, who is second, third? I didn't know it was a competition! or is it possible you mean your fav?
In my personal opinion I think that Warren Haynes ever since he joined the Allmans for "Shades of Two worlds"(and a couple leftover albums from the Warren Haynes group before he joined). Warren Hayne's playing has gotten so much better over the past 30 years or so. Even when he screws up,he'll work it into the song and circle around right back into the pocket without losing a beat.Oh and honorable mention!!!..Charlie Starr is not to be underrated either. That dude is CRAZY good!!!.Of course Charlie is using his 56'Les Paul junior, with a single P-90 in it.I think that the both of them grew up with the same "musical diet". It's great when you run across other musicians who can play the same stuff you canand are really motivated to play that kind of music. When I was younger I wanted to play The Allmans,Skynyrd,Molly Hatchet, Blackfoot, etc. style of 2-3 harmonizing guitar players. In a live setting each one playing something different than the others,it really adds to the consistency & sound(but all my friends I grew up wanting to play Heavy Metal (and with some heavy metal there's actually pretty good stuff out there, but I never have a desire to play it) so I could never find a local band) I will say that the sound disbursement, each member of the band is cutting through whatever sonic area is left empty, and then that certain member will take up that empty spot.when it's done like that all the guitar players are right on point with each other. It's really fun to watch as a fan but it's even more of a blessing to see it through The eyes of a musician(I consider my playing to be a bit sloppy)but the people in my channel comments tell me how much they like my videos.I just can't wrap my head around it because when I watch it and listen to it sounds sloppy. I guess to a non-musician,it would sound good, but a real musician will take apart every little thing I'm doing wrong with ease.. I don't let it get toe. They can comment whatever they want,I'm not running away from a verbal fight that's pointless & I'm non-monetized so fuck the trolls.I do it strictly for fun.So when I have people shitbagging & talkin'"dude you suck man".to be totally honest I don't care I leave the video up anyway. It's for personal satisfaction. Not to make some crazy guy in nine states away angry with me,trying to entice me into a keyboard war.I just grew my skin real thick and ignore the bad shit. These two belong on stage together they sound great with other.
Actually Thin Lizzy were one of the first to employ the "dual Guitar" runs, and they were Irish. Rock, Blues, even Jazz can trace their roots back to Celtic music if you look at the structure. Music is a world wide language that everyone understands. Gotta love it!
Finally, Charlie sounds GREAT! Charlie's timing and note spacing is superior to the Mule. Much more raw and more feeling. The MUle is very boring with a capital "B"! Will check out more of this young gun...
That's plain funny. "Will check more of this Young Gun".... Charlie & BBS has been together over 20 years w/ 7 or 8 very good albums. 2 of which are completely solid 1st song till last. "Little Piece of Dixie" (2009) and "Whippoorwill" (2012). AJ - you got some catching up to do.
Correction, Mule is an excellent band and the other band too. Fantastic talent that is often missed by the young being distracted by the young nashville top 40 stars.

I love Southern rock. It reminds me of old times. Especially today. God bless the members of this band and blackberry smoke. Thanks guys. Fan!!
We need an album of warren and charlie
Still here 2023, great job 👍 Love you guys ✌️❤️🌼
Very Nice.. That song has a special place in my heart
Warren is doing an incredible job carrying the torch for Southern Rock guitar heroes. He's a hell of a musician & singer ❤️😎
And so is Charlie Starr and Blackberry Smoke
I second that, Cody.
He is BORING!
Only to people who don't have a clue about guitar playing
Warren Haynes is number one in my book these days. Still rocking and keeping the Southern Rock tradition going!! Keep it up Warren!
Charlie Starr is the chameleon of Rock n Roll..✊
Man can do it all...
What a great musician..
Known for music not words.

That gives me chills bumps what a great tune played so well by 'TOP OF THE LINE" musicians.
Watching Charlie warm up is a Classic Show of its own ! Great Post ! ol man way down in TX JD Then Ramblin Man ! Bam !
What a Great match of guitar mastery!
Thanks so much for the video! Watched it a bunch of times!
I rekkin it's time for another Smoke N Mule tour. Please
holy carp that is just so nice. could listen to that all day. there's just something right about good southern rock. how could it get any better than those two dudes together....
The sky was SO blue and this was the Top of the great festival . Still gets me smiling.
Flawless effortless damn wow what else can I say definitely does it justice
Charlie kicks ass!
Two of the best at their craft!
2:30 Charlie sings "dont fly mister blue bird" and I'll be damed if 2 birds dont fly past in the background LOL Great video thanks for sharing!
Pure frickin' talent right there.. Great performance
Almost like a young Dickey up there. Really nice.
ABSOLUTELY FABULOUS
Love how they all just start when they feel it and build a great intro...
I was in a band with Mat Abts for a spell in Los Angeles in 1990.
That first harmonized guitar part gave me goosebumps! Such a good tune and great musicians!
Warren is such a super talented guy 👏 Great collaboration ✨
Thank you so much, Mr. Maguire for sharing with us this unique moment. Sometimes I hate who record concerts, but moments like that have to be registred.
Sweet jam by two of the BEST!

hot rocks guys. Thanks Brendan for a totally brilliant clip. Lili Kiki in lockdown in France. Darn, when can I go see them again at a concert? Stay safe gals and guys.
Good sound , goods guys , good music ,almost heaven !!!
That had to be a Great 1 to be AT!! JJ
All said Jack Pearson is the best guitar player out there today. If he had an ego he would be worshiped...Just fucking amazing!!!
Best? According to whom? What metrics are you using to determine who is best? If he is best, who is second, third? I didn't know it was a competition! or is it possible you mean your fav?
That song never gets old no matter who sings it but I still like Dickie Betts at the mike, ha ha .😊
Bloody great version! Warren was taught by the master himself.
Lovely guys Barbro in Sweden 💟☮️
Bravo!
2 Great Southern Rock greats
The phraze "Better than the Original" sneaks in/creeps into my mind...
(But then how could that be?)
Like Charlie a lot. Warren was the hardest working man in rocking roll when he was doing the Phil & Friends GD tours. Saw him play for 6hrs straight.
simply amazing
Dem boyz can play..
Hey, that was pretty good Charlies played that before.haha great!
Charlie has that tone
Well ain't much I can say that comments ain't already said , so i just agree. Great song, great musicians. Nuff said.
Exc❤eleent
Playing it pretty.
He may be acknowledged but not for he really is; a flipping genius.
Warren let Charlie play the Solo-Part!
It's always a tribute to the original lineup!!!!!!

Lucky they didnt chunk a bottle at you with all that begining ramblin...Weve had an Allman bros...lets hear what you can do and add to this world.
Awsome performance .. although it would have been nice to see Charlie shine a little ..
Cell Phone or What ?
Good drummer
who is he
Matt Abts - great feel
Great stuff but it is not Dickie!
I wonder what’s going through Warrens mind playing with another giant all be it Unacknowledged in Charlie Starr? Shit guys. Sorry.

These guys would be nothing without Duane and Dickie......long live the Allman's
Who are these guys, anyone vaguely famous?
Lmfao I'm guessing you're kidding, right?
@@JC-11111 Since he didn't respond, I'm guessing he was serious.
