I mean NO disrespect to Whiskey, but he has a way to go guys. I’m enthusiastic in his ability and song writing but come on…..he has to build up a backlog before remotely being considered to be at this level.

I'm so glad you featured this band! The first time I heard "One Horse Town" I ran home and learned the progression in minutes, purely through inspiration. I worked out my own solo apart from the original, and felt really good about my endeavor. I still play the song and I am grateful for the spur that was dug into my side👍Thanks Michael P.!!!!!!!!
Michael you just don't know how much I love watching you express yourself when something really excites you. like that bass player at the end. I mean really really cracks me up.
Charlie grey "starr" is from same town as I . He's a phenomenal singer songwriter guitarist. His father is too. His dad plays locally here time to time.

Yea this dude is my fave ! Extremely talented an a one of a kind guitar instructor ! In my book he is one of the very best at both worlds 🌎 thank you for what you do for all of us future good guitar players !!
BBS are incredible. Had seen them before, but saw them in Ottawa in March 2020 the day before the world shut down. I think I went to the last concert ever ! Haha. Thanks Michael, great breakdown.
Awesome!! BBS has been my fav modern band since 2009. Got to finally see them in 18 on the outlaw country cruise ( went to all their shows on the ship, 1 full acoustic) as well as meet them . Charlie is a very humble and cool cat. I just loved them from the first time I heard them...rock/blues/country/soul all mixed together....thats my thing for sure!!!!! Thanks for doing this vid. Open G accompanied by standard....what a full sound and tone👍🏻😉👍🏻
I like how he says "thought that I'd hit bottom, but I ain't there yet" as the note starts out at the top and works its way down, lower like a wave, to prove musically how you can go high to low.
Love Blackberry Smoke! Your explanations are spot on and so inspiring to me. You have an amazing ear and are a musical genius, in my opinion. Thanks so much!
Thank you for putting these guys up here for everyone that doesn't know them! After listening to them for 5 years, i still get goosebumps! I think I'm in love with CHARLIE STAR!..HAha! Amazing writing, REAL people, serious musicians. AND, the first band to impress the hell outta me in years. Thank you BlackBerry Smoke for the listening joy you give me! I sincerely hope to see y'all live one of these days! Charlie, don't dare lay down that writing pencil! I feel like y'all are my family and i enjoy introducing you to anyone and everyone that has yet to be blessed by the sound of BlackBerry Smoke!
TH-cam just suggested this song to me this week and I love it. Great serendipity that you've chosen to review this recently. I've never tried alternate tunings but might have to go for it now :)
My son was a drug addict & only alive by the grace of God & a needle full of Narcan. I heard this song at work. I was literally crying at my desk. That was 4 or 5 years ago. Since then, he's straightened out & working hard. Now I'm the addict. Addicted to BBS.
"The dude is a bass player". Haha, couldn't agree more, he is one of my favorite working bass players. Always in beast mode and a huge part of their sound.
400 of those 900 were probably from me! haha, I heard this roughly 3 years ago. The melody, the lyrics and vibe in general made this one of my all time favourites! . It's a 527 ft home run IMO, This one really hits home. "One horse town" is on that list as well. When I play this, it takes me to a whole other place. Thanks brother cheers!
I was finally gonna see these guys in March here in Kitchener. The show got cancelled 2 hours before. Thanks COVID. They rescheduled for this November. Now that one got postponed till next October.
I could not agree more that simplicity is huge with writing music. If you play, you've most likely played tons of covers, and what do you notice?... well, what I notice is that acoustic / unplugged versions of even the most highly produced songs are just simple, but effective chord progressions. Some of my most favorite songs are just F, G,C songs, or A,D,G songs, etc... They say country songs are "3 chords and the truth." Totally true! And, I'd say blues, folk, and rock could say the same sentiment. Nothing at all wrong with simple. Love it!
I saw these guys at a bar in Fredericksburg, VA back when they were touring the Little Piece of Dixie album. AMAZING show. They were really down to earth guys.
First time I've seen your videos. Love Blackberry Smoke. Got turned on to them by Don Jamison on That Metal Show years ago. They came thru Albuquerque and played in this little bar. Paid ten bucks and stood five feet in front of Charlie Star. Best working band going! Love your enthusiasm and awesome knowledge!
May 7th, 8th, 14th, 15th of May 2021. Absolutely a must for any BBS fan. Brothers and Sisters reunion at The Shed, Maryville TN. Smokey Mountain Harley Davidson. Great venue and wonderful people to hang out with to watch this great band.
@MichaelPalmisano You produce EASILY the most thoughtful and entertaining guitar content on TH-cam. I'm not a musician, but music is a constant throughout my daily life and your videos have deepened my appreciation for the talents of some of my favorite player, such as Derek Trucks, Marcus King, Charlie Starr, Warren Haynes, etc. Your genuine enthusiasm and passion for the music you analyze is awesome and sets you apart. Keep doing the rock gods' work my friend. Who knows, if I watch enough of your videos I may just have to finally pick up a guitar myself...
@@jwilsonhandmadeknives2760 Michael Anthony was the bassist for Van Halen and is known for his poignant harmonies as well as his bass playing. Listen to Van Halen's Jamie's Cryin' when you get a chance and you'll see what we mean.
Michael, thanks for finally doing these guys, they're one of my all time favorites and you should listen to some of their deeper tracks. They just did a livestream concert with Billy Strings and Tommy Emmanuel as well which made for some awesome guitar moments. You gotta see these guys live, Charlie's personality on stage is awesome. Another singer/songwriter/guitarist I just got into is Brent Cobb. He's pretty insane. Highly recommend you checking out some of his stuff. Thanks!
Love the videos. You offer great perspective on how bands tie music together to make a group effort and it is very interesting and taught me a lot about guitar. I love that you show several independent artists (I’m from Texas so it’s all I listen to). However I would recommend looking into Whiskey Myers. They are an East Texas Rock and roll band and being from the area, I can say they make some of the most honest music you can find. They have several live songs on TH-cam, not sure which you could choose from legally but “dogwood” epitomizes our area well
Do yourself a favor and find the live versions of this song! They take it to a new level incorporating classic songs from Led Zepplin, Black Sabbath, Allman Brothers and the Beetles to name a few. This song ends their show and it is the best closing song that I have heard and seen to date and I have been to over 350 concerts. Seen these guys 78 times and they have NEVER disappointed. Great musicians and great people!
