I can only wonder what it’s like to sing that song after 35 years. I love when he pulls an oldie from the library ❤. I feel like he’s one of us when he does this.
I was surprised and intrigued to see the Bill Shankly backdrop behind the stage to accompany Morrissey singing this one from The Smith's - The Queen is Dead album. Nothing Morrissey has ever said in the past I know of has ever implicated that there was a connection between the song and the late Liverpool football manager ? Moreso given the two cities of Liverpool and Manchester rivalry. I just assumed it was rythming word play on Morrissey and The Smith's. However, his depths into early 1970's nostalgia is welcome, was a keen fan of both. Bill Shankly and The Smith's. It was a two for one deal Moz !
I think it was mostly used because it rhymed with "frankly" (I am pretty sure the song is about Geoff Travis), but also a nod to Bill Shankley's status as a working class hero. Weirdly, given all the hooliganism of the 70s, football fans were not quite as tribal in other ways back then. Great managers, especially openly socialist ones such as Shankley and Clough, were generally appreciated by most football supporters, who themselves were typically of a similar political bent.

Why did you trim these videos? The songs all start abruptly! I just watched these a few hours ago and it had Morrissey's banter before. Please release the original version.
I usually don't engage in comment discussion. But you're the 1st to ask. So here's my statement of purpose.. I have to save something for retirement. It's not cheap flying around the world going to all these concerts I record to share with you & the public. But I do it because I believe in the the artist & what they sing. They are worthy of being publicized & promoted as much as possible for what they sing. Technology has now made TH-cam the place where a majority of people go check out new artists, & share those they love. And I believe most are here purely for the songs. But I'm the most inept who ever stepped when it comes to being tech savvy enough to set up a Patreon account to create bonus material to share all my extra footage of banter between songs & complete concerts with my supporters. Since I don't make a penny doing this, I don't want to give away the entire store just yet. Give a little & make 'em want more is kinda my idea here. And I give a lot. But maybe one day I'll get the help I need to give supporters all bonus material from my archives. Although it doesn't seem right to profit off artists while they're still alive (although don't hold me to that should my situation change). I know there are many people that will never have the opportunity to see Moz in concert. But they also need to have a reason to see & support Moz & others while they're still able to perform. I won't take that away from Moz or anyone, as much as I can. And if it's to hear what he has to say between the songs, so be it. I hope that answers your question satisfactorily.
@@babyj1313 Hi Baby J! I I hope that my comment didn't come across as demanding or angry. I seriously love your channel and thank you for all the amazing content you provide! I was simply asking because I really enjoyed repeatedly viewing that video but the first few seconds got cut off. That is all. I figure it was an editing choice but was genuinely curious as the video was recorded perfectly and i thought maybe YT has processed it incorrectly. Thank you for your content and I look forward to the next shows that you will post. Safe travels and great times! -J
And when The Smiths did this in Liverpool back in the day, he said 'this song is about nobody you may know' so as not to offend the delicate reds so why use Shankly on the backdrop now?
His voice sounds great. What a legend.

Why does this video not load for myself and so many other people? Strange
I've noticed that it only loads on mobile and not on a desktop or laptop. Maybe that's just for me...
The video does not play for me;;;how frustrating.
Try watching it on mobile
Wow, has he even done that solo before?

P.S. I try to start them right at the 1st beat, & end on the last sound of the song, just like the studio recorded album does.
@@babyj1313, thanks for this response. I was interested in your methodology and motivations too.
I’m surprised that an apparently avid Man Utd fan would use a backdrop photo of a Liverpool FC legend. Speaking as an Evertonian!😊
he doesn’t care about football
Different backdrop every song. This was for 'Frankly Mr Shankly'

I noticed that. However, during his Vegas shows here in the States he had a backdrop with Georgie Best. Glory glory Man United!
