    I have to say I gasped when I saw that 266 figure for Labour. How is it possible that Jeremy Corbyn's Labour, about to split and crumble months ago manage to gain seats! What an incredible comeback! Though I suspect it's more of May's poor strategy.

      It's odd how people almost see this as a win for Labour - It was a loss - AGAIN

    • @stevenrobertgill7306
      @stevenrobertgill7306 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You do realise that May actually got 13.6 million votes? That's roughly the same as Johnson who got 13.9 & at the time it was the largest popular vote for the Tories since 1992.
      The problem is the Labour vote also surged to 12.8 million (40% share) which wiped out the Tories majority, if Labour's vote had stayed where it was in 2015 (30%) it's likely May would've gotten the majority she wanted & would still be in office now. The reason Boris actually won this time despite his vote share increasing only marginally is because Labour's vote fell by nearly 3 million. People wrongly assumed that Labour must've lost votes to the smaller parties because their votes surged by roughly the same amount Labour's fell but correlation is not causation & the Ashcroft polling actually indicates that the Tories lost votes to the smaller parties (possibly 1.5 million or so) but enough Labour supporters lent their vote to the Tories to get brexit done that not only did it cancel out any losses for the Tories in fact their vote increased by about 300,000 compared with two year ago. Again if Labour abandon their support for a 2md referendum, it's very likey they'll claw back a good chunk of their base. Labour being perceived as too left is a distraction, ultimately they lost because they backed a 2nd referendum and fell into the trap that Cummings laid for them.

    • @SiloNova25
      @SiloNova25 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@stevenrobertgill7306 No need to be patronising, son. I *do* realise that. My fundamental point, as I'm sure most Brexiteers and even plenty of Remainers will agree, that had Boris gotten into power from the get go, we would have left by now. Mrs May wins the leadership race, becomes PM, and the EU were running scared. But then they saw how weak Mrs May was (which further proved them right when she called an election she didn't need to, and subsequently lost). We've been had over a barrel since. Until now.

    I will admit I was really pleased by the result of this election however I can't help but wonder whether a better outcome would have been for May and the Conservatives to have won a small majority and for Labour to have done worse.
    Sadly Corbyn was never going to be Prime Ministerial material and Labour not done as well as they did at this election the pressure may have have ultimately been put on the party to pull themselves together and eventually perhaps Corbyn would have been forced out.
    I think May still would have made a hashjob of Brexit and possibly had trouble getting a deal through but I do think Corbyn had totally the wrong agenda- trying to bring about the fall of the government to win power himself and had all this not happened maybe a competent Labour leader would have been present in 2019

    • @thomas1999
      @thomas1999 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I'm inclined to agree, at the time I was happy with the results, but honestly I wonder if May had been given her majority, and thus wouldn't have been forced to resign, would things possibly have been better? At the very least it could have delayed the conservative party being run by lunatics.

    Maybe the U.S. should change election law for the 2020 Presidential election so the 'States, like Britain, could have all their polls close at the same time (10 P.M. Eastern time; with an exception made for Dixville Notch, New Hampshire, so they could continue their traditional Midnight voting).
    This way, the networks could come on the air with Election Night coverage at 9:55 P.M. Eastern time, and at 10, the election-night anchors could dramatically project the winner along with how many projected Electoral Votes he/she would get.
    With most U.S. election polling places using optically-scanned ballots that can be quickly counted, the entire U.S. Presidential Election Night telecast could run no more than two hours and 35 minutes (9:55 P.M.-12:30 A.M. Eastern time), which would go from countdown to poll closing through (unless there's a "cliffhanger") the loser's concession speech and the winner's acceptance speech.

      But what about the Pacific states, wouldn't they would be closing at like 5 or 6? hardly fair that they get a lower amount of voting hours.

      Not true idiot. The winner is the party that forms the government. Labour was more than 60 seats behind the Tories, and he got about the same number of seats as Gordon Brown. And Corbyn will lose again in 2022. And then what will hard left militants like you do then?
