Man I love these screen shots and explanations as if I’m taking a class course! Sometimes these are way better than videos for diagnosis cause I can screen shot them and ref as I check one by one. Thanks again! I was assuming it’s Ballast problem so thanks for reassuring me it’s common issue.
You are the professor. my friend thank you for explaining . yes very expensive headlight .. its 1500 dollar each on 2004 BMW 330 CI crazy. if the wires cracked the insulation the green the brown and the red is gone meaning cracked you think i have a short in the headlight housing. thanks for the help PELE
Really appreciate the quality of your video. Thanks for your contribution to the community of E46 owners. My xenons work intermittently. I know the bulbs are good. Would any of the components other than the wires cause an intermittent outage situation?
hello. it looks like its my wires they one of them is clearly exposed. i already put a new bulb in and it wasnt working. i switched out the igniters and they work on the other side. the link for the harness is not working. can you give us another link? or whats the solution
Sorry that the link isn't working. First step would be to enclose the exposed wires. If they are touching, that will cause a short. Are the wires in tact, just exposed? Or are they broken?
Hello. Great video. On my ‘03 330i with xenon lighting, my passenger side headlight was inconsistent then failed all together. Bought new bulbs, and now the driver side is out.?.. Suggestions? Thanks.
Hahahahahahaha I knew I was gonna find a comment about a bmw , GARBAGE cars , the best thing you can do in your life is get rid off that POS ASAP and never buy another BMW , I learned that hard way
Odd. Are you saying the adaptive feature (headlights turn when you turn) is not operational? Basically, the headlights go up and down on start but then don't move anymore?
@@mitsoskri3532 If I had to take a guess without seeing it, I would guess the control unit, especially if the adaptive works intermittently. This is also the cheaper fix. My other guess would be the actual motors in the headlight housing died, which is much more expensive. Again, just guesses but good luck!

Yes you can! But if you think the ballast is the problem, you're better off swapping the non working (passenger) ballast into the working (driver) headlight. If the previously fine (driver) headlight doesn't work with passenger ballast then you found the problem. Much easier than moving the headlights themselves
Hi, i come all the way to the end of your video. Mine is 2004 bmw 325ci. I think it is wiring problem from the Light control unit. Do you know that there is any fuse or relay for headlight ?
@@nhatchuong9999 My next guess (from afar) would be the igniter wiring harness. They are 3 small wires that become super brittle. Any break in connection will cause that headlight not to work
@@AvoidStealership They are xenons. The low beam is the high beam, they just move the flaps in the light. The flaps will not move from the low beam position to the high beam position. They move when the lights turn on. My question is is there a relay? Or fuse that would affect both lights?
Hey, what if both lights doesn’t work? And there’s no indication on the dash... and I can use high beams but I must hold the lever on for them to work other wise the shut off..
Sounds like you have a short somewhere in the system. I'd start opening up the headlights and looking for frayed wires that are touching that shouldn't be. It would also be helpful to find someone in your area that has an e46 and see if they'll let you swap headlight parts for diagnosis
Weird. I put in your car info on amazon and I see what you mean. I would use realoem and input your VIN number so that you can get the right part # for the ballast. Once you find the correct part number then you can look around for the best price. www.realoem.com/bmw/
Got the igniter, ring and bulb in place. Repaired the wiring on the drivers side and replaced the light bulb. Works fine. New bulb and Ballast, repaired wiring on passenger side. @@paulrampon1167 I would try swapping bulbs between one you know works (driver side) and the one that isn't working (passenger) to determine if it is the bulbs.

Awesome presentation dude! Gonna tackle this project on my Z4 this weekend
Best of luck! It's sort of tedious but way better than taking it to BMW 😂

Fuses 9 and 32 are for the light control modules if I remember correctly. Hope that helps!

I'd start the diagnosis by using a bulb you know is good then
Side headlight not working
DId you get it working?
Part changing diagnostics no good
If changing the parts didn't work, I'd check your wiring
