I used to hate Warhammer for it's grimderp atmosphere of devastation, wanton cruelty, and pointless suffering. It always read like misery porn, with every summary of the lore I came across being outright fetishistic in how casually it would describe the horrors of war. Nothing sent that message to me finer than The End Times, and so I had avoided Vermintide when it first came out due to the association. However, a friend finally got me into VT2 a few months ago, and I have to give my utmost respect to the people at Fat Shark. The dialogue in these games, and your animations in particular, have made me fall in love with this world. Sure, a lot of the fun I had in the first ten hours or so was mostly just engaging in the mindless violence and killing rats. I'll admit, it's fun to sweep through hordes of vermin and sear the flesh off rampaging rotbloods with a well-placed eruption of flame. But in spite of everything, the game's heart is in the human element at its core. To be honest, I should hate these people. They're almost villainous; each one has brought about incomprehensible amounts of suffering due to their negligence, lunacy, cowardice, and ego. These are horribly flawed people. However, the writing has presented their actions as reasonable, relatable, and each is quite likeable in their own right. Above all, they're damn heroes. The Ubersreik Five (or four) have sought to battle with nothing but selfless furor against the hordes of undeath and chaos that call oblivion to their door. Though they can't change the end of the world, they're *damn* sure that it won't happen without a fight, dragging innumerable legions of evil screaming to hell along with them. It is almost a Grecian tragedy, where the surface-level story is that reality falls apart and the gods do battle on earth, but the fundamental underlying point of it all is analogous to real stuggles that real people can empathise with. It's animations like this one that show the U5 (and the themes of the Vermintide games) for what they really are. Human.
I can see "villainous" for Kerrlian, Saltzpyre, and Sienna (barely, but she is dangerous). But not for Bardin and Kruber. Sure, Kruber is an alcoholic, but after what he saw. I wonder if one could really blame him for being an alcoholic. And Bardin went on a penance crusade after screwing up. Hardly, "villainous" more short-sighted I would say.
Grimderpyness is a more "recent" addition to Warhammer that started in 6th edition (but was more or less contained to Bretonnia, that went from Arthurian fairy-tale land to Monty Python-esque dirt farming simulation) ramped up in 7th (post Storm of Chaos edition) and 8th (End Times edition).
@@Overlord99762 I was under the impression Bardin knew the invasion was coming and fled rather than warn anybody. I think I was mistaken, though. Bardin is an incredible lad, and really shouldn't bear the guilt he does.
That facial animation at the end is just *muah* nice and subtle, the eye shift seemed to lack a frame in-between but other then that I love how light the smile was.n
Kruber really is a bright ray of hope in a dark world. Everything about him is just heartwarming: the man loses his whole company to a spell, but continues on trying to keep others motivated and their moral up. Just knowing what he's been through puts a lot into perspective. No matter how dour or rude the other Five get he's always trying to keep their spirits up and in fighting shape. Reading into his actions you can see how much Krub' misses his company, and just wants brothers-in-arms again.
It's so awesome, isn't it? I feel like if he were to angrily respond to you because you pissed him off, it'd inspire genuine concern and caution because he wouldn't seem like the guy to snap at you.
it's crazy how much your animations have improved since the start, that and your ability to make hard hitting shitposts as well as more "serious" stuff equally well are inspiring. you're probably the most high effort youtuber i think i've seen for any game, keep it up
Love the animation and I love how we see the man still training after Lohner called for drinks and food. He has determination to get better the rat men and northlanders are ransacking his home and likely has lost someone to the invasion. Kinda love to see Warhammer fantasy alive like this warms my heart ty Janfon 1
There are many small movements in the characters which I just love the added detail for. From all the little gestures that lohner and kruber make to emphasise their words, to kruber's enthusiasm when he pulls up the knife, to the focussed movements of the soldier training. It really is a joy seeing you add so much character to each of these animations. Keep up the great work!
This is perhaps the most beautiful animation I’ve seen yet. So much character, emotion, and depth in every bit of it. I cannot imagine the work it must have taken for this, but I love all of it. My favorite part is Kruber being stern but fair, and you can sort of tell he missed training soldiers. I like the improvement of the initial soldier as well, and when he smiles a little at the end when offered a drink. I think you capture the essence of the setting so, so well. These men are all battered, rugged, and exhausted, but they still fight, and there IS hope, and moments of peace.
These fanimations always remind me that I would give a LOT to see a Witcher-Like game in the Warhammer Fantasy verse.... it would be sooooooooo nice to go to all these places and SEE them..... T__T
Now that's something that I like to see, Warhammer fantasy always had that feeling that yes, the common folk, and even the heroes could always have something of an ugly mug, not everyone looks like a pretty doll especially in such settings. Using those models was a good call, they really convey the idea of an everyday-man suddendly having to wear armor and drilling with a sword for the first time just to survive.
this is really sweet :) and honestly rly shows how much youve improved in natural-looking animations since i first followed you, kruber esp moves and emotes great!

It's stunning how well you craft your animation around pre-existing dialogue. If I knew nothing about the game, I could swear that those voice lines were recorded specifically for this video. How are you still not a part of Fatshark marketing team is beyond me. On another note - I sincerely hope that Darktide will boast a similarly amazing cast and characters (it's a big ask, I know, because VT is just *brilliant* in that regard, but one can hope) and that the devs will provide even more juicy dialogue, so awesome people like you can take it and run away with it. Speaking of which - when Darktide comes (and if it turns out to be good), do you intend to make videos for it as well, or are you not really "into" 40k?
Yeah I like 40k, played all of the Dawn of War titles (except dawn of war 3) and even heard of shenanigans like Eternal Crusade's downfall. To sum it up, I don't play tabletop, but I love Bruva Alfabusa. I'm gonna jump on Darktide the moment it comes out
Really awesome video. Great to see other survivors among vermintide and the chaos. Kruber is just pure gold and friendship in this while Lohner chomps his bread xD. I kinda feel like we will see these guys again if im right with this. Just dont let Pusfume to be seen or mby he teaches then something about skaven. Who knows?
I like how kruber taught the guy to keep his shield in front of him , usually in some fantasies , they expose them selves from their shields to attack , quite leaving them vulnerable , but in historical they keep them in front to be more protective , quite good detail
By the gods. Your skills are always improving, but I think your greatest success is in those small movements. Sliver of a smile and a dart of the eyes? It just makes it feel so, human. 10/10 you are blessed with great power and you use it perfectly
Stuff like this is exactly what I think the Ü5 need. Gods, do they need a chance to feel at home somewhere… And a hug. Seriously, these bastards, every last one of them need to put down their weapons and hug each other. Fucks sake, the kinda guilt that all five of them harbor, they’re one good display of camaraderie from breaking down into the most needed cry in all of Warhammer.

I love V2 characters, how they were written and especially how they are voiced. And here you are adding the "everyday life of U5 outside of battle" facet to them. The body language matching the intonations seamlessly!
A quiet evening, a warm fire, an old song, a pint with friends, a wheel of red cheese. It's the moments of simple humanity that make it all worth fighting for.
"Three things make the Empire great; faith, steel, and gunpowder."
Kruber: "And cheese!"
In a game without cut scenes
This is pure gold
Im always blown away by how much your able to achieve through a large collection of voice lines and some in game assets and make something that feels entirely new and somehow each video is just better than the last
I really like the fact that you made the eyes move realistically. They are the fastest moving part of our body after all.
Most expressive one, most of all
@@Janfon1 you consistently amaze me with your talent
Well made. This is some top notch animation.
I've fallen in love with your animations all over again, wholesome and characterful
Human.
pretentiousness aside, i think this animation is bretti gud :D
I can see "villainous" for Kerrlian, Saltzpyre, and Sienna (barely, but she is dangerous). But not for Bardin and Kruber. Sure, Kruber is an alcoholic, but after what he saw. I wonder if one could really blame him for being an alcoholic. And Bardin went on a penance crusade after screwing up. Hardly, "villainous" more short-sighted I would say.
@@steellegion7054 didn't Bardin get hurt and thus was unable to warn the hold of the coming attack?
Grimderpyness is a more "recent" addition to Warhammer that started in 6th edition (but was more or less contained to Bretonnia, that went from Arthurian fairy-tale land to Monty Python-esque dirt farming simulation) ramped up in 7th (post Storm of Chaos edition) and 8th (End Times edition).
@@Overlord99762
I was under the impression Bardin knew the invasion was coming and fled rather than warn anybody. I think I was mistaken, though. Bardin is an incredible lad, and really shouldn't bear the guilt he does.
Always a joy to see what you make with such little material
i like to see this, yk ive always wanted a mission with friendly npcs
Than the ones you rescue at two separate occasions..?
That facial animation at the end is just *muah* nice and subtle, the eye shift seemed to lack a frame in-between but other then that I love how light the smile was.n
Seeing the guy at the end smile makes me genuinely happy.
Good Lad Kruber. As a Kruber main that likes supporting the party in most of my games, this animation does make me smile.
This is fan animated but it felt like an official animated short. Great work as always!!
It's the little smiles in between it all that matter.
Great work as usual. Love seeing our lovable killing machines in motion
Cant believe Don Quixote was trained by one of the Ubersreik 5
Man, imagne living in that world, true hell for a human, it's nice seeing them relax and enjoy life, even with the pain in their eyes. Great vid mate
it's crazy how much your animations have improved since the start, that and your ability to make hard hitting shitposts as well as more "serious" stuff equally well are inspiring. you're probably the most high effort youtuber i think i've seen for any game, keep it up
Love the animation and I love how we see the man still training after Lohner called for drinks and food. He has determination to get better the rat men and northlanders are ransacking his home and likely has lost someone to the invasion. Kinda love to see Warhammer fantasy alive like this warms my heart ty Janfon 1
This is so amazing, love these heartwarming animations ~ Good work!
Getting to the point where this is almost cinematic. You've come such a long way and it's amazing ❤
This stuff makes me crave a full feature film with the Vermintide crew and associates.
Not just getting better and better on the animations, but finding an eye for direction too, with the choice of edits/cuts.
The small smile from the older soldier at the end was so well done. These are great
I’ve always wanted to see what Lohner and his lads are up to. It’s a shame we never see what anyone outside the U5 are really doing.
There is the Fort still standing strong I guess.
Canonically? Everyone else is dying outside the U5, it's the endtimes and Chaos wins at the end of those.
The voice acting, the friendliness, the soundtrack - what you made here is wonderful. Just pure art.
One more voice joining the Chorus. Great job Mate. I love your stuff.
Ah, these animations never fail to bring a smile to my face. Keep up the good work, Janfon
Ohm an this must've taken so much work. Well done, dude!
These fanimations always remind me that I would give a LOT to see a Witcher-Like game in the Warhammer Fantasy verse.... it would be sooooooooo nice to go to all these places and SEE them..... T__T
Really nicely made, was sweet to see how the men were being trained and also cared for!
The facial expression reallly stood out to me. Very well done
this is really sweet :) and honestly rly shows how much youve improved in natural-looking animations since i first followed you, kruber esp moves and emotes great!
Lovely to see these animations
Good lord, you could make a whole movie easily O_o
I could imagine the group training towns' people to defend themselves when they pass through a town.
Good job Janfon! Always quality Vermintide animations!
Dude you have so much talent. This was great.
Love the character building here. Excellent work & video!
These are brilliant, really brings the characters to life.
I love stuff like this. It makes things feel more real
Thank you for this, really
I've never played a warhammer game before vermintide, so i dont know much about the world beside it
But...i feel an admiration to your work and to those five fine lads
Hope they can find peace, in wichever form thay can
This was good, a small wholesome moment in a world falling in upon itself
This is why the Empire stands to this day after millennia of conflict and carnage, because against good men like this no evil can hope to triumph
Well, that was a heart warming moment, wasn' it lads ?
Pumpkin for everyone !
Oh my Hammer and Empire! This is amazing! And wholesome too, surprising for a grim dark setting!
That was brilliant, nice work putting that together, mate!
I'm gonna jump on Darktide the moment it comes out
Thank you for all the work that went into making this! Love the detail and wholesomeness
Happy to provide! There's always more room to improve for me
So much heart in this. Love it. Wonderful work.
Who knows?
0:05, showing a young stirlander in his 20 training for the local militia.
I suspect it's nice for Kruber to do some drills again
Your animation is amazing dude. So much "business" happening with excellent expression. 👏
Grail knight would be more fitting because he actually knows how to use a sword
profile pic checks out
0:05 youngest man in the Empire
seems like Lohner had been practicing on his bottle duplication magic!
I like how kruber taught the guy to keep his shield in front of him , usually in some fantasies , they expose them selves from their shields to attack , quite leaving them vulnerable , but in historical they keep them in front to be more protective , quite good detail
thought = think, you meant to say "taught" (from teach)
Yeah English sucks lol
@@Janfon1 oof typo I guess
By the gods. Your skills are always improving, but I think your greatest success is in those small movements. Sliver of a smile and a dart of the eyes?
It just makes it feel so, human. 10/10 you are blessed with great power and you use it perfectly
This is a work of art. Excellent job, wish I had your skills.
Stuff like this is exactly what I think the Ü5 need. Gods, do they need a chance to feel at home somewhere…
And a hug. Seriously, these bastards, every last one of them need to put down their weapons and hug each other. Fucks sake, the kinda guilt that all five of them harbor, they’re one good display of camaraderie from breaking down into the most needed cry in all of Warhammer.
professional animator in the making
We really need a Vermintide movie
I came, I saw, I clicked like immediately
This is quite wholesome, seeing how geniuin Kruber is in his coaching.
Dude i would love to see you make a few videos that tell a long story. Like a movie of sorts chopped up. Also you should make saltzspire sing hellfire from the hunchback of notredam
Love your stuff, waiting for whatever you put out next!
