I've switches to large clear apple cause jars plastic with screw on lids.. seeing what's inside helps.. I still have big coffee cans too but prefer clear these days
apparently there are several of these troy bilts with this same problem. I have a small engine repair business here in Kaneohe Oahu and this seems to be the problem with all of them as well as the belts breaking. Working on some of these tractors, and i know MTD makes them all, but Troy-Bilt seems to be lesser quality than Craftsman and John Deere, even though MTD makes them all. The material seems to be better on Craftsman and John Deere and even Cub Cadet.
yes there is room to move up and down when the spring that holds the unit is off.. once its all back together it lines up ok and if it doesn't line up it usually does as soon as you turn the blades on for the first time after you install the deck and belt.. thanks for subscribing and if you ever need anything just send a message
A Man after my own heart. Why waste money when you can tinker it? You have the tinker gene. And I ain't talking about Tinkerbelle! It's in my genes. I like to take stuff apart to figure out how it works and save stuff from totally broken things for fixing something else. I usually use stuff I save. What paypal do I send money to?
my paypal should be www.paypal.me/gowithkelz .. i see you found the keeper video. glad I can be of service. So kewl to know that women are tinkerers too. I am Irish so always a tinkerer

thats a good idea.. had not thought of cans i'll have to try that and see if its strong enough.. the pulleys are usually between 5 to 7 inches so would be a big can.. I will keep my eye open for one and try it .. thanks for the idea.. if it works it would be helpful to many people
@@paulmonk7820 I buy the blue plastic can for my normal coffee but i will check for the metal kind.. I also go out on recycle night and look in bins.. I am not scared and if I need containers I go find them.. so I will keep my eyes open

Funny you comment today.. I have that machine back here right now I am working on it.. he uses it 40 hours a week to cut grass and he broke a belt.. he tried putting new one on and did it incorrectly .. ran it between the brake and the spindle pulley and pinched it .. the spindles are trashed now and I am on the laptop looking up the new spindles.. saw your comment.. they are great machines if used as intended.. 1 acre or so a week.. they last forever but when you use them commercially they get trashed.. if your brakes don't work u can replace the pads.. the spring might also be off , stretched or broken so check the lever spring.. glad your working on it yourself .. hope my vids help.. I am always here for questions.. thanks for subscribing while your here it helps a lot
I had them on my mower but the belt still keeps jumping off so where is the part that you tighten up the belt with I have a spring up on her mind so am I supposed to turn that spring
@@phyllisgraham6985 there is no adjustment that I am aware of to tighten .. if the belt is worn out and stretched thin it will jump off .. that's usually the easiest way to fix a problem.. the spring can be old and stretched a bit as well.. you can try replacing the spring.. but otherwise the only thing you can do is find out your belt length and buy one that's half inch shorter.. also be aware that the thickness of the replacement belt is as important to the length.. if it calls for a 1/2 inch thick belt and you put a 3/8 inch thick belt on it will jump off cause the thickness affects the length needed

What's the pulley diameter? 😮 Thinking you CAN find a CAN (pun intended) to cut ✂️ and shape to replace the keeper. 12:16
