This is a cover of a song done for the movie "A Star is Born", originally sung by Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper. The design of the video is based on the movie poster, which was a black-and-white photograph with gold lettering. Pentatonix formed 11 years ago to compete in a TV competition for a capella groups, then built a career on You Tube, mostly with creative covers of pop music and holiday favorites, but they also have original songs. They have more than 15 albums, 20 million You Tube subscribers and three Grammy awards.
More please. You have a wonderful journey if you want to enjoy some beautiful harmonies. This group has been together since 2011 with only one change which was the bass singer. Covers and originals and their live performances are amazing as well. Your number of subscribers will go crazy if you do more of their music because Pentaholics are incredibly loyal.
Pentatonix (PTX) is an a cappella band that occasionally uses instruments. In this case, it’s Kevin’s, the beatboxer, cello. Notice that he was beatboxing while playing the cello. He also has a wonderful tenor voice. The first singer is Scott. He is a baritone with a bass to tenor range. He’s the band’s frontman. The second singer is Kirstin. She is a mezzo soprano with a alto to whistle note range. She is known for her Disney voice and strong belting power. Mitch is a rare countertenor with a six octave range. He and Kirstin can sound a lot alike. Matt is the bass and also has a bass to tenor range. He joined the band in 2017 while the other four members are original since 2011. You will see Avi, the bass from 2011 to 2017 in earlier videos. He now has a terrific solo career. Before PTX, Scott, Mitch, and Kirstin sang together in high school as The Trio. Although Kevin is the beatboxer, they all do background sound effects. Their harmonies are super tight and often give the illusion of instrumentation when there is none. Recommend their version of Bohemian Rhapsody. Also recommend their Amazing Grace. Subscribed.
Welcome to the PTX rabbit hole!❤ I’m sure by now everyone has told you who they are so I’m just going to leave a few suggestions of what you should react to next: Covers: Say Something Hallelujah Sound of Silence Amazing Grace Originals: Love Me When I Don’t Water Aha! Petals They have hundreds of songs and they have a huge Christmas catalog ad well. Have fun!!!🎉
You're starting at the top here - I think this is one of their most beautiful songs! I think you will enjoy their enchanting vocals, sophisticated arrangements, and clean, attractive videos, and I look forward to seeing your reactions. You already have some great suggestions downthread. My own favorites include: [original lineup with Avi Kaplan on bass] Daft Punk (cover medley, Grammy Winner), followed by the thematically similar Love Again (original), Mary Did You Know (Xmas cover), La La Latch (cover mashup), Evolution of Michael Jackson (cover medley), Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy (Xmas cover, Grammy winner), Imagine (cover), Can't Sleep Love (original); [with Matt Sallee on bass, 2017-present] Sound of Silence (cover), Amazing Grace (cover), Havana (cover), Can You Feel the Love Tonight (cover), 90s Dance Medley (cover medley), New Rules x Are You That Somebody? (cover mashup),, Thank You (Xmas original), Happy Now (original), Blinding Lights (cover), I Saw Three Ships (Xmas cover, no official video: try this live one - th-cam.com/video/Rn5Q56iz4Jk/w-d-xo.html)
Their cover of Hallelujah or The Prayer are a couple of other good choices! But you can’t go wrong with any song they perform- truly genius in their craft.
We Pentaholics are pretty rabid in our fandom! I'm with all the other commenters here. Daft Punk was their first Grammy, Hallelujah...then Sing, one of their originals! They are usually always acapella. There are a couple with Kevin playing the cello and Lindsey Sterling playing the violin, otherwise...it's all just their voices. Once you get to their Christmas videos - all bets are off!!
"Hallelujah" is a must for anyone first getting to know this talented group (the official video first then the live version from a Christmas special). I also recommend their "Daft Punk Medley," "Bohemian Rhapsody" and "The Sound of Silence" among others just to become more acquainted with their musical diversity and brilliance. I'm glad you recognized the symbolism in this video because not everyone does and it is often subtle but present in most of their work. In reality, any song you choose will be a sensational musical experience. I look forward to many more Pentatonix reactions from you. Enjoy the ride.
Pentatonix isn't exactly a secret. They have 3 Grammy awards and literally billions of views on TH-cam. They describe themselves as a "pop band" but they use mainly their vocal talents alone and present as either 4 singers and a beatboxer or 5 singers on most of their arrangements. Kevin, the beatboxer, is also a world class cello player, sax player, singer, arranger, and all around genius.
Hi. The Sound of Silence, Amazing Grace, The Prayer, Hallelujah are all great as well as their originals Love Again, Be my Eyes. In fact all their music is fantastic.
I truly don't know that I've seen anyone with as much talent as Kevin. Aside from being pitch-perfect and doing many arrangements, the man can sing, and essentially play two instruments simultaneously (drums--beatboxing, and cello). How he's able to act as a drum kit while playing the cello is just beyond my comprehension.
Azphel: "They absolutely have talent." We all snigger. "Man, you have no idea." I suggest you start with their Christmas special live performance of Lenard Cohen's Hallelujah. That will prove the talent. From there, the rabbit hole runs deep. Do more PTX and I'll sub.
They do covers of more pop songs such as Havana, Say Something, Cheerleader, Papaoutai, and Radioactive. Big ballads like Hallelujah, Mary Did You Know and Amazing Grace. Old Rock : Imagine, Sound Of Silence. Originals : Sing!, Water and Cracked. EDM : Daft Punk medley and Love Again. Rock : Bohemian Rhapsody. Fantasy : Can You Feel The Love Tonight, Come Along, You're A Mean One Mr. Grinch and Dance Of The Sugar Plum Fairy. And a whole bunch of Christmas standards and originals.
oh please do more Pentatonix! They are around for a long time. It's one of the most famous acapella groups. They received a star on the walk of fame last month...from their newer songs I can recommend "come along", "new rules are you that somebody" or "can you feel the love tonight". Also, it's worth watching a live performance of them because it is hard to believe that they sound equally good if not better live. (here I would recommend starting with the "90 dance medley" from the Hollywood Bowl, "Joyful Joyful" or "Aha from Singapur") All four of them are well-trained singers with broadway or choir backgrounds. That's why they are for example also famous for their Christmas music (Acapella as a genre fits this the best) But they do also every other genre starting with rap, hip-hop, and EDM to classics and cooperations with famous singers like Dolly Parton and Jason Derulo. Never think that they can't do something, they surprise you every time. Maybe you should browse through their videos and choose something for your next reaction that appeals to you the most. Also they have no front or lead singer. They always try to divide all parts as equally as possible. The beatboxer is called Kevin and sometimes plays the cello. And the bass is Matt. In older videos, you will get to know Avi Kaplan. He left the group a few years ago. Scott who sang the lead part in this is normally a baritone/tenor but he has a huge range and can easily sing other parts too. My favourite (and maybe also the one of most other PTX fans) is Mitch ;) he's a countertenor and has the most beautiful voice on this earth. It didn't really come out here, but if you see other videos of them soon you'll see what I mean.
The other thing you need to know is that in this video Matt is the black guy on the far left and Mitch is the white guy in between Matt and Kevin. You don't hear much from either Matt or Mitch in this video, since there are just the two lead singers, Kirstin and Scott, with Kevin and his cello taking center stage. I recommend their -cover- upgrade of "Sound of Silence" as a song where everyone except Kevin gets a solo. Kevin Olusola (pronounced Oh-loosh"-oh-luh', primary emphasis on the second syllable, secondary emphasis on the fourth) is an amazing person. He has a pre-med degree from Yale; he speaks five languages, including Mandarin; and he's classically trained on piano, saxophone, and cello - he's performed at Carnegie Hall twice, once on saxophone and once on cello. He's one of the best beatboxers on the planet (if not *the* best), and on the rare occasions when he isn't too busy being the entire percussion section to sing we can hear that he has a lovely tenor voice, and he's known for the great beauty of his falsetto range. But in "Sing," from their 2015 album _Pentatonix Deluxe,_ I believe that his solo was actually in the *baritone* range. I recommend Kevin's KOver of Marian Hill's "Down" if you want to see just how talented Kevin is musically: th-cam.com/video/IGjg193h4Ok/w-d-xo.html Also, you'll like "Kevin's Fifth": th-cam.com/video/DbCasvcNx78/w-d-xo.html (everyone does). Mitch Grassi (pronounced Grah'-see, emphasis on the first syllable) is a counter tenor with a range of just over six octaves. His voice was described by Shawn Stockman, of Boyz II Men, as "one of the prettiest voices I have ever heard in my life," but most people just describe his voice as "angelic." Both Scott and Kirstin have said that they sometimes have trouble during live performances because their natural tendency is to stop singing so they can hear Mitch better. But Mitch was bullied in high school because of how high his voice is and that early experience has led him to doubt his own musical ability and intuition; he has imposter syndrome. It got bad enough during the pandemic lockdown that he finally got some professional help for it, and he's seemed to be a happier person since, which has been a great relief to his many fans. As for Matt Sallee (pronounced Suh-lee', emphasis on the second syllable), I've been unable to find *any* releases currently available that adequately display his range. When I went to their concert in Denver on November 20, 2022 I was surprised when they sang "Hallelujah" by the arrangement of the second verse, where Matt takes the solo; it was one I'd never heard before and was apparently intended to show off his full range. I don't have a trained ear, but I would bet actual money (I'm not a betting person) that his lowest note was as low as anything I ever heard from Avi (pronounced Ah'-vee, emphasis on the first syllable) Kaplan, their original bass, and Avi's lowest notes were known to blow out speakers in live performances. And Matt's highest note was somewhere in the middle of the tenor range. Matt is the youngest member of Pentatonix, and I'm told that bass voices improve with age, which would explain why there aren't yet any official releases that show off Matt's range - it's a new development and they haven't had time. But it's clear to me that Matt is a spectacular bass, and Pentatonix desplayed their usual level of musical discrimination when they chose him to replace Avi, at a time when his full range was still only potential. I should also say that I don't believe Matt has hit his peak even yet; I expect his voice to continue improving for another year or two, at least.
Oh yes. And regarding the recommendation of "Aha from Singapore," please don't watch that until you've seen their official video of "Aha!." "Aha!" is a very strange song, and you need the official video to understand it (be sure to watch it all the way to the end, where you see the car trunk). After that you'll be ready (well, as ready as anyone ever is) for "Aha Singapore the Star Vista."
Welcome to the Pentatonix rabbit hole. As someone mentioned you keep doing reactions to Pentatonix and the pentaholics, the fans, will flock to your Channel. I'm not going to repeat what everybody else has said and will say. Their latest video is prayers for this world which is off of last year's Christmas album. Pentatonix owns Christmas. They put out a Christmas album every year that charts very high. Last Christmas 2021 they did the prayer and just when you think they can't talk themselves they came out in 2022 with prayers for this world. I saw them September 29th at the Hollywood Bowl and I hope to see them September 11th in Irvine California Irvine California. They never do a song that they cannot reproduce live what they did in studio. I never doubted this but to actually experience it was magical to experience it is magical. There is a video out of their 90s dance medley comparing the studio to the Hollywood Bowl. At least I think it's 90s dance medley it could be Daft Punk. As someone mentioned people start with the official video for Hallelujah which has over 680M views. It is said that Pentatonix does not do covers they do upgrades. This is a link to a video titled a beginner's guide to Pentatonix. It covers all 6 members. Pentatonix has five members. From 2011 to 2017 the bass was Avi Kaplan. He left and was replaced by Matt Sallee who is still there. That has been the only change in the lineup. Mitch the countertenor changes his look very very often as does Kirstie, rhymes with thirsty. Here is the link th-cam.com/video/lDxIfwfCmQE/w-d-xo.html The next acapella group on my list is Home Free. They are more of a country slant. They are also very very good. Their fans are called home fries. The latest acapella group that I've been getting into is voiceplay. They just released an acapella cover of Metallica Nothing Else Matters and I probably listen to it 3 times a day. With each of the acapella bands their fans are very loyal very passionate and very excited when somebody gets turned on to their group. Continue to do reactions of these acapella groups and you will see that the fans will flock to your Channel. Pentatonix is the OG because they're the ones that busted the ceiling on what acapella could be. They won The Sing-Off in 2011 the third season and Home Free wanted the next season in 2013 and voice play to hook third or fourth place that's season. At least that's where I think they finished finished. There is a fourth group called voctave but I've yet to listen to any of their music yet
I am subbing for more Ptx!! The Pentaholics are gonna be subbing left & right! We are all really nice people & will answer any questions you have about Ptx!! So happy you have found this group! I think you will fall in love with their music!
Thank you! I have only heard this one song yet, so I can't say much more than I enjoyed it a lot and that I'm curious what else awaits me on this music journey!😄
PTX is incredible and there is much to explore with them. All five of them are excellent in their own right but together the synergy will blow you away. Interesting first choice of this particular video in that Kevin (the beatboxer) is playing cello. Much of their stuff is straight a cappella. Enjoy your journey with them.
Great reaction to this superb cover of the song from the recent movie, "A Star Is Born" featuring Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper. So glad you stumbled on Pentatonix (PTX) and great that you want to hear more from the premier A Cappella group. They have a huge 200+ song discography for you to choose from and there isn't a bad one in the bunch. Not knowing what your music preferences are, I'll try and suggest a mix of styles that they've covered and include some originals: Bohemian Rhapsody, Daft Punk medley, Love Again ( original ), Mad World, Coffee In Bed (original ), The Prayer, Be My Eyes ( original ), La La Latch, Say Something, 90's Dance medley, Run To You ( original).
You have a very deep rabbit hole ahead of you…..Pentatonix is the GOAT a cappella group. They have a couple hundred+ covers and amazing originals from a wide variety of genres: Sound of Silence, Daft Punk, Can’t Hold Us, Can You Feel the Love Tonight, The Prayer, Mad World, Come Along, Love Again and Popspring 2016 (live performance) for a start.
Welcome to PTX! I'm so glad you enjoyed this beautiful cover, and you're right, Kirstie really shines in it. Kevin celloboxes (his word for playing cello and beatboxing at the same time), and other instruments appear from time to time in their work, but they are primarily an acapella group. They have been singing together over ten years and have hundreds of covers, incredible original music, and a huge Christmas music collection. They have billions of TH-cam views, 3 Grammys, multi-platinum albums, and just got a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. They are currently in Tokyo on tour. They sell out venues all over the world, and I can't wait to see them on the North American leg of their current World Tour when they come to my area. If you jump into this rabbit hole, we will be there to catch you. Subbed.
Thank you! Seems like I missed a lot once again, me realizing this happened quite often since I started my channel 😂 I'm curious about them and will definitely listen to more!😄
I subscribed before I watched your reaction because I don't think I've EVER seen someone that wasn't completely wow'd, and because I know you are bound to do more of Pentatonix. You JUST started opening an incredible present ..'tiz a must to want more... so glad you have discovered this incredible band! Can't wait to watch more from you! There are SO many to choose from (and many genres..) originals, covers (those are referred to as upgrades), medleys, or mashups, collaborations.. welcome aboard!!
I really enjoyed your reaction! I came here hoping that you were truly hearing Pentatonix for the first time (not just "first time hearing PTX sing this particular song"), and this time it was true. I'm so glad you were impressed with them! Since you like Kirstin's voice, may I suggest "Rather Be"? She's the featured soloist. I see that you have now reacted to Hallelujah as well, so I'm subscribing now! I look forward to following you on your journey of discovery.
Welcome to PTX. Their talent is off the charts. We who love them and follow them are called Pentaholics. Probably better check out Hallelujah and Bohemian Rhapsody first. They have over 250 covers and originals. All are great. Search their catalog and dive in.
Welcome to Pentatonix, great first reaction! I'll add suggestions of reacting to their beautiful "Mary Did You Know" and their strong message cover of Lennon's "Imagine" ! New suscriber, hoping for more PTX!
Subbed for more PTX. I see you've already met Home Free... The third big acapella group at the moment is Voiceplay. I love all three in different ways - as well as some of the other great groups like Bass Gang, Maytree and Citizen Queen.
they are an amazing group multitalented.usually accapella ,If they use an instrument it is front and center. check out their list,You have hundres of choices. be csreful ,you might become a pentaholic .
You are the first reactor I have seen that started on their rare cello accompanied songs. Usually they are 95% acapella Hallelujah and daft punk are two very good examples showing different members and their skills. Imagine dragons Radioactive they collaborated with Lindsey stirling if you want another string piece.
New Rules x Are You That Somebody Cheerleader Save the World/ Don't You Worry Child Mad World Imagine Radioactive (w/Lindsay Stirling) Wizard of Ahhs 😉 Just about everything is worth checking out🥰

Me too, Pentaholics will come in good numbers as your reactions start to show up in our feeds. 😉
Welcome to the PTX rabbit hole!❤ I’m sure by now everyone has told you who they are so I’m just going to leave a few suggestions of what you should react to next:
Covers:
Say Something
Hallelujah
Sound of Silence
Amazing Grace
Originals:
Love Me When I Don’t
Water
Aha!
Petals
They have hundreds of songs and they have a huge Christmas catalog ad well. Have fun!!!🎉

Their cover of Hallelujah or The Prayer are a couple of other good choices! But you can’t go wrong with any song they perform- truly genius in their craft.
FYI -- Pentatonix will be performing three dates in Austria in May -- May 17, Vienna, May 18, Linz and May 20, Graz
I´ll be seeing them in Graz. So excited.

Hahaha sounds good, I'm curious what awaits me on this Pentatonix journey!
A lot of suggestions already, let's see which one we do next 🤷♂

Pentatonix is an amazing group. I love Pentatonix original work, try coffee in bed or happy now. Another great Kirstie led cover is Say Something.

Here is the link

The next acapella group on my list is Home Free.
Kevin beatboxing while playing the cello is incredibly impressive!
Not knowing what your music preferences are, I'll try and suggest a mix of styles that they've covered and include some originals:
Bohemian Rhapsody, Daft Punk medley, Love Again ( original ), Mad World, Coffee In Bed (original ), The Prayer, Be My Eyes ( original ), La La Latch, Say Something, 90's Dance medley, Run To You ( original).
Hi Jenefer! He is gonna fall in love with them! Lol!
@@beverlykrebs4372:: waves Hi! back :: Fingers (and toes) crossed that he will.
@@Gwennedd Almost everyone does!!
There seems to be a lot waiting for me!
Let's see where this journey takes me😄
Thank you!
Pentatonix is PHENOMENAL, hope u do more
I will!😄
You have a very deep rabbit hole ahead of you…..Pentatonix is the GOAT a cappella group. They have a couple hundred+ covers and amazing originals from a wide variety of genres: Sound of Silence, Daft Punk, Can’t Hold Us, Can You Feel the Love Tonight, The Prayer, Mad World, Come Along, Love Again and Popspring 2016 (live performance) for a start.
love your production comments... thanks
Subbed.
Thank you!
Seems like I missed a lot once again, me realizing this happened quite often since I started my channel 😂
I'm curious about them and will definitely listen to more!😄
I subscribed before I watched your reaction because I don't think I've EVER seen someone that wasn't completely wow'd, and because I know you are bound to do more of Pentatonix.
Love PTX - welcome to the family! Subbed for more, and boy oh boy, is there more!
Thank you!
Can't wait for more!😄
Subscribed for more PTX. Great reaction, and welcome to your new musical addiction! 🤘🏾
Thank you!
Can't wait to hear more of them! 😄
I'll sub for more Pentatonix, especially the Prayer or Hallelujah.... And Superfruit!
Welcome to PTX. Their talent is off the charts. We who love them and follow them are called Pentaholics. Probably better check out Hallelujah and Bohemian Rhapsody first. They have over 250 covers and originals. All are great. Search their catalog and dive in.
Both on my list, will be coming "soon"! 😄
As a pentaholic, I think you need to listen to the live version of “Aha!” in Singapore. Also Hallelujah of course.
Just subbed for more PTX!! You’ll enjoy this journey… promise!
Can't wait for more, thank you!
Welcome to Pentatonix, great first reaction! I'll add suggestions of reacting to their beautiful "Mary Did You Know" and their strong message cover of Lennon's "Imagine" ! New suscriber, hoping for more PTX!
I did add both to my list, which is already a long one with Pentatonix 😂
(Most requested are Hallelujah and Daft Punk Medley)
Thank you!😄
Hallelujahhas over 700 million views for a reason! You shouldmake that your next one.
More Pentatonix please!
Subbed for more PTX. I see you've already met Home Free... The third big acapella group at the moment is Voiceplay. I love all three in different ways - as well as some of the other great groups like Bass Gang, Maytree and Citizen Queen.
Thank you!
Voice Play is on my list, but since I do a lot of variety in not only genres but also bands I did not listen to them yet - coming "soon"! 😄

In many pentatonic video, people talk about being Mitch slapped. I think you just got Kirstie stopped.
