This was a lovely surprise reaction, Sir Hairless. I wasn't expecting a PTX one so soon after the Kevin one! This is a non typical one to choose of Matt - most people would pick The Sound of Silence (which I would also recommend as he has a solo verse in that) or Mad World (which is also one of my favourites!) but I totally get why you chose this one as it's five-part harmony so you can hear him more. He has a really warm tone and a lovely vibrato. He is not a super low bass like Avi who was a trained basso profundo, which is why they usually wouldn't choose for him to sing much in the '1s' but he does have an incredible range and can go much higher than Avi, and they do make really good use of that in their arrangements. If you want to see Kevin and Matt working really well together, try their evolution of Ariana Grande or Rihanna, or New rules. Talking of Imogen Heap, as you were here, please please do Aha Live in Singapore! With Kirsty's vibrato, she does have a very tight vibrato so occasionally it can sound like she is singing a straight tone but it's just a very tight vibrato! Again, the Sound of Silence is a great example of that. When they sing live Kevin and Matt are incredible together! Can't wait for more Matt PTX reactions and more Avi ones too.
@@neetgupta1 I'm not most people Thanks - everything you've suggested is on my (rather large) list already 👌 Tight vibrato vs flat tone is still a pretty noticeable difference I think due to the type of sound produced, so I pick the moments I comment on flat tone carefully (I really need to come up with a better term for 'flat tone' because people could interpret that as singing under pitch 😅 Will keep an eye/ear out for it though in Sound of Silence when the time comes! Much much much more PTX to explore
I believe Matt’s break out moment showing his versatility and style really came with The Sound of Silence. Still one of my favorites of theirs. Matt adds a bit of R&B sound to Pentatonix, more so with each year. I absolutely love that Matt smiles so much while performing… you’ll see that soon, I’m sure! Thanks for another great reaction and commentary.
Sound of Silence is a classic PTX cover and a great one for hearing what Matt can do. He’s not Avi and Avi isn’t him. They are different but both incredible talents.
“Oh Holy Night” is a MUST. “You’re A Mean One Mr Grinch” features Matt as the lead and he is absolutely amazing. Another must in your journey of Matt with PTX
Yes, I'd say the octave jumping thing seems to be a Mattism. The first time I noticed it, as it's hard to miss in this case, was "Sound of Silence." A cool one to see Kevin and Matt working together is their mashup of "New Rules/Are You That Somebody" where they are creating the Timbaland beats. Now that you're in the Matt era, at some point it might interest you to see "Pentatonix - Recording of Evergreen" which is a 17 minute mini-documentary, filmed by Kirstin's now-husband Ben Hausdorf, about the unusual (and very short) recording process of that Grammy nominated Christmas album. As for Matt, he cracks me up in his feature song, "You're A Mean One Mr Grinch" and also really makes me smile in "Attention," and "90's Dance Medley." He brings so much joy and personality into his singing, and is definitely an energetic match to PTX, that re-invigorated the group - not that they needed it, or that Avi was a downer, lol. He solos more and more over time featuring his soulful, literally-raised-singing-in-church vocals. His part in "O Holy Night" (2023 new magnificent arrangement, not their 2014 arrangement) and "Kiss From a Rose" are noteworthy. He collaborates with Kevin on his "Kevin's Fifth" and "Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy Reimagined" which are both available to view from the recordings of live Pentatonix concerts from 2022 and 2023. I saw both live, and the standing ovations were unreal - pretty sure the one after "Kevin's Fifth," was the exact moment I lost my voice for the next several days, lol! Matt is also a percussionist, and he plays drums during these performances. Can't wait to see your analysis of more Pentatonix!
After watching kevin's cover of Down, he definitely needs to watch Kevin's 5th (once matt got the full drum set) and dance of the sugar plum fairy reimmagined. The livestream versions are such good audio and visual quality too.
I hope Sir Hairless does both versions of "Oh Holy Night" for Christmas. It will be interesting to see his comments on their growth from the early version to the newest release (not to compare which is better or who is better, but growth only.)
Oh my days!! Matt's been around for 7 years!...where to start to song suggestions... Making Christmas. Sound of silence. Oh holy night is a zinger! And kiss from a rose...❤
I loved that you remarked on the Imogen Heap sound reference. Mitch and Scott both are big Imogen Heap fans and PTX actually do a cover of "Aha" by Imogen. They have live version in Singapore and video version available. The live version is my favorite as Mitch was 3 Red Bulls in and was quite animated. Love all your reactions/analysis, not just PTX. You truly make each performance so informative. Thank you. ✌👉
Yay!!! We've entered the Matt era. I absolutely love Avi but Matt brings something magical to PTX. Can't wait to see more reactions to Matt and obviously to Avi.
Matt has really helped Pentatonix grow. I think he blends better with the rest of the group. He probably can't go quite as low but I think his solo voice may be better than Avi. I also think he enjoys performing live more than Avi did. I think the texture of his voice reminds me of Nat King Cole singing 'Unforgettable'. I think Matt would just kill that song if PTX ever decided to upgrade it. I think he and Scott would do great singing Motown music.
Matt’s lowest note is only a half note higher than Avi’s actually. Not as resonate, but a great deal more “punchy” than Avi was. He blends with the other members significantly more than Avi did as well. Most importantly, his accuracy, energy, versatility and performative ability is perhaps the best in the group.
I do hope you react to "Come Along". Matt sounds like a cello, and there are, what I think, different moods/tempos throughout the song. If you haven't heard the song, I find the ending quite surprising. Continue loving your reactions!! ❤
There's a video about Matt ("Pentatonix - Introducing Matt Sallee") where the other Pentatonix members comment about him, making it clear why they selected him. Obviously his voice fits the group, but he is also a great performer, with a natural confidence onstage that the other group members don't have. And he is a really nice person, which allowed him to fit into the group dynamic with no friction.
Oh yay! The Matt Era has begun! I adore Avi to bity bits, but I also really love Matt, and I'm SO excited to watch your reactions to ALL of PTX now! For more Matt, please do Kiss from a Rose, Oh Holy Night, and New Rules X Are You That Somebody!
Before you move on to the next era, you have to do Hallelujah. Seriously it's not to be missed! And if the door is open to both eras then Sound of Silence is just stunning. Both Kevin and Matt solo in that one. Can't wait to see more!😊
Did he really not do Hallelujah? That's usually most reactors first few videos with ptx. As much as I'm tired of the song from so many artists covering it, ptx's version is a must. Sir Hairless its their most popular song and video to date. At almost 750 million views. I've watched all your analysis of them. I guess I'd forgotten and assumed you'd done it.
I love Matt and he is extraordinarily talented in his own right. I was always a huge fan of Avi, and Matt is a very different singer, so at first, i thought PTX definitely lost something when the transition happened. But, although they are different now, Matt brings something new and fresh to the group, and, over the years, I've come to really appreciate his contribution.
🎶🎵Free Free… Set them free 🎵🎶 Really, I don’t care in what order you choose the songs and performances you react to. I know I will enjoy it. Since Matt has been a PTX member since 2017, you have just opened up another huge bank of goodies. Yay! Thanks again. 🤗
PTX 2.0! Yes, Matt is a different style of bass however, he compliments the others. I heard on a few occasions that his voice is soulful. I agree, though more pronounced when he's soloing. I look forward to more with the continued dip into the Avi era. PTX has an original, "Coffee in Bed" where Matt's bass is outstanding as well as Kevin's beat boxing. It will be Christmas before my favorite Matt Christmas song in this era will be suggested. Thanks for another great reaction and analysis. 😊
Love how they use Matt’s rich often soul filled lyrical voice. His solos with them are fab. Different arrangements than those they did w/Avi, both great, totally different. Matt’s riffs are on display with two recent works that no doubt will be already suggested.
One of the songs that I think Matt really sounds like an instrument is Amazing Grace - but not like a bass guitar, as you might expect for a bass singer, but like an old church pipe organ - especially at the end when Kirstin is belting her heart out. All in all its a beautiful arrangement and setting for the video, and Matt starts the first verse as a solo, with Scott and Mitch gradually joining him, so it would be another good video to get an idea of Matt's tone and quality. One of the most recent PTX videos is O Holy Night, and Matt has an entire verse as a solo, so that would also be a great one to check out.
O thank you so much. Yes Matt has a smooth voice. He has a stunning voice as you will experience later on. You let us hear so much more and are appreciated. Love their life performances. You should definitely hear their sound of silence to hear Matt's abilities. Aren't they just great. TX for another OUTSTANDING reaction. Greetings from South Africa
Soooooo many Matt-tastic PTX songs!! Some of my favorites: New RulesxAre You that Somebody, Come Along, Kiss From a Rose (live Vevo), O Holy Night, Amazing Grace and Making Christmas. 👏🏻
Thank you again! My favorites from Matt era: Mad world, Sound of silence, Kiss from a rose, and some christmassy 12 days of Christmas and O holy night... can't wait the next reaction!
Kirstie's voice does cut through when she takes the lead or a solo. She has great control singing with a straight tone, blending so nicely. When I first heard Kirstie's vibrato I was surprised because it's naturally very fast.
Try the 90's dance medley to see the interaction between Matt and Kevin. Check out Kiss from a Rose (Vevo live) for Matt's vocal range. Kevin's fifth live performance is also spectacular. I hope you get to go to the live performances of all the groups.
Matt's vocal journey began at the age of 4 when he began singing in the church choir where his dad was the pastor, He was a Pentatonix fan and even before auditioning after Avi left , he had learned the bass lines of all their songs . As the baby of the group , having just turned 30 , I believe he is still developing his bass range . Whilst I love Avi's rich , true basso profundo voice , I also love the range and flavour of Matt's voice, and he has just got better and better in the last few years . Matt plays drum's and has also been known to beatbox , especially in one of my favourite performances of 'Joyful, joyful ' from the live -streamed Evergreen tour, but as many will tell you , he shines in the recent live from Vevo studio's 'Kiss From A Rose' and their upgraded version of ' O Holy Night'
Yes!!! You've finally entered the Matt era. So much more to choose from 😅 For Matt, one of my favorites is the mash up of New Rules X Are you that somebody. And Havana. And The Prayer. There is also The sound of silence, Kiss from a rose, Mr. Grinch, The evolution of Ariana Grande... lots of them actually. He is smoooooth.
One of the things I love about Pentatonix is their blend. Yes, sound balancing the mics is very important, but without that tonal blend it's pretty moot - imho. The blend of their voices is what helps those 'juicy chords' sound like ear candy and not so discordant as to take you out of the music. It's a fine line to walk and they do it expertly. One of their 'signatures' which is not atypical of most musical arrangements, is to start off fairly simple, build in complexity to a crescendo and then bring the listener back down. How they maneuver through that with key changes and subtle swells that they all match perfectly is what makes their sound unique. Last, I will add that I am truly in awe of Kevin here. Not only does he have a lovely voice that blends well with the others, but he has some of the hardest melodic changes. I'm also pretty sure he has some of the highest notes at the end section, but I could be wrong. --Thank you Sir Hairless for sharing your analysis with us. You always hear and point out things that I miss.Your ear for detail is incredible!! Thank you.
Metalhead here. Finding I'm liking acapella groups quite well and trying to learn more about them. This was a lovely rendition and for me there was a lot to absorb so I undoubtedly missed quite a bit. Sticking with it though, and I know I will learn more as I go along.
I so love your reactions. You can tell how much you get into the!music when you just want to start singing along with them. Matt's voice is beautiful. He trained at Berkeley and has amazing pitch. He also adds a really chill and fun vibe to the group. He and Kevin work SO well together. You can especially see this if you watch some of their live concerts....or just go see them in concert (even better). He plays drums while Kevin Cello Boxes.
I get so much from your analyses and as a result this avid PTX fan hears detail I hadn't noticed before. Excellent reactions are like lessons in listening. Thanks!😊😊😊😊
I appreciate both Avi and Matt. I am so glad you have entered the Matt era. Normally, I don't recommend songs because the music you react to is new to me, but I have been enjoying The Sound of Silence with Matt. When I watch that video, I always think that you would enjoy hearing Matt's part. As always, thank you for today's video.
Interesting interview with Matt on Peter Barber’s podcast about his history and how he came to join PTX. Gives you a complete understanding of how he developed his skills and work ethic. He’s really versatile and brings such joy to the group. He’s also loves basketball and every arena they go to you can find him on the basketball court just enjoying himself. They used to do extensive tour videos pre pandemic which gives a lot of insight into the group dynamic. This arrangement is more choral than the original which I feel gives it a beautiful richness and texture. There are so many tiny moments of just sweet sounding harmonies. Just another unique PTX arrangement. Stevie Wonder cannot be duplicated so it’s smart they chose this route. IMO. ❤ Scott can rarely control his hands. They are an extension of his emotional response to just about everything. 😂 Matt and Kevin are also hand movers. Mitch and Kirstie seem less inclined but often you’ll see them joining in. Your ability to hear the parts and break down the songs is amazing. Great reaction!
I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR YOU TO GET TO CONTENT WITH MATT, because so so many BRILLIANT music by PTX with Matt. A few stand-out performances I'd love to recommend are 'Kiss From A Rose', 'When the party's over', 'Oh holy night', 'Sound of Silence', 'Amazing Grace', and SO MANY MORE. :D Thank you
Certainly not the song i expected for your first matt reaction but i understand after your explanation. So many good ones left with Matt as he's now been in the group longer than Avi was. Amazing grace is a good one for more matt and if you want matt as lead watch mr grinch. His live performaces of that were outstanding as he has incredible stage presence.
Imogen Heap is one of their fave artists (at least the trio). They would love to work with her. Side comment: Your insight is so freaking interesting. I love watching your face while listening to them.
This is an iconic song Stevie Wonder wrote.( I m assuming he wrote the song which I. think he did) Wow Ive never heard PTX sing this. I love Avi but I also love Matt. Each have their own strong points. This is a great example of how lovely a capella music is just so pure. It's why I love a capella so much. Lots of good filth in this song Thanks SH 💖 R/A 🎼
Both Avi and Matt have four-year degrees from music colleges, Matt's from Berklee, one of the top five music schools in the US. Avi trained to be a basso profundo. Matt seems to have gone for a lyric bass. His dad was a church music minister, so he may have been aiming for a career in the pop-flavored contemporary worship music field.
The video for this is an example of really lovely, subtle story-telling. I doubt there'd be enough differences for you to do a second analysis, but I think you'd enjoy watching it. I'm pretty sure it was one of those not-quite-Christmas songs that make it onto their Christmas albums. It mentions "Christmas joy," so close enough-but the bar is getting lower. This year's not-a-Christmas song was "Kiss From a Rose." Scott's justification: it mentions "snow." They really are starting to run out ofnChristmas songs! But that one, too, has GOT to be on your list. Along with the new version of "O, Holy Night," they are absolutely two of their recent stand-outs. (And we don't care if it's Christmas or just Monday...) So happy you're now including both Matt and Avi songs. Avi made them Pentatonix, but Matt brought them to where they are today. I don't see them in competiton at all. We needed them both and through their recordings will never lose either.
Ohh, helloo, I missed that! The song really takes me back to "younger times" 😂, and I never knew this version of Pentatonix, and it is so beautiful! Thank you for introducing me to it, and thank you, as always, for your wonderful fine, kind, smart, precise, emotional beautiful analysis and comment! I enjoy watching you so much, so - this was a great start into my day! ❤
Great - exciting to see you arriving at more modern PTX. They've never stopped developing and becoming more sophisticated and polished, as I think you noticed in this reaction. Thanks, Sir Hairless.
Love that we’re in the matt era now 😁🙌🏼 You simply HAVE TO check out the evolution videos, Evolution of Ariana Grande and Evolution of Rihanna. Done all in one take and just so well performed. I also love Amazing Grace, Mad World and Can you feel the love tonight.
I *think* Matt’s first video was deck the halls while he was “helping for the season” before being promoted to member. I also *think* sound of silence may have been his first video as a true band member. Evolutions of Ariana Grande and Rhianna are great. The Grinch live is a show! But you should see the official video. There’s a fun behind the scenes for that one as well. And as folks have said, dance of the sugar plum fairy reimagined (Kevin + Matt) is something else
I've said this before, but I really really appreciate your reactions. You are so thorough and analytical with everything and you break down the chords to explain why these arrangements are so creative and different. In this reaction, you've even commented on each harmony line relative to each other, which is cool to think about. Thank you for your insight, Sir Hairless!
If you listen to early live performances, they were often on Good Morning America, they had to rely on studio techs to do the mixing. They assumed that Scott was the lead and boosted his mic. That simply does not work with a group that sometimes switches lead vocal and background vocal mid phrase. I think they have their own techs now that know how to handle them. I was hesitant when Matt first came on board, and I felt at first he was trying too hard to come out from under Avi's shadow. It didn't take long for his natural energy to inject into the entire group. And to say that he and Kevin have a chemistry would be an understatement. Love your reactions.
Another phenomenal analysis of a wonderful PTX performance. This live performance is almost undetectably different from the pure video version, again demonstrating how incredibly talented they all are.
Now you are in Matt era, there is a perfect song to showcase Matt (and, of course Mitch). Also it is perfect if you need to energize or do housework! Peek at Come Along originally by the wonderfully named Cosmo Sheldrake. So much fun.
Fun fact, Imogen heap is one of Mitch's vocal influences growing up. He's followed her since her frou frou days. You should check out their cover of just for now ( no video, just audio) Thanks for the live version. Great reaction 👏🏾🙏🏾
MAAATTT! Ok Matt Pentatonix in my humble opinion is the best Pentatonix, you already know I was never keen of Avi, and he was the only member I never really "get". Matt seems too much in the style of Pentatonix. He has an insane range, so he can jump octaves (He sings in the first octave, and also in the 5th). This is something he does both going up, and going down. He is pretty insane, you will see this in songs like "Disturb The Silence", "Amazing Grace", "The Prayer". Also, you want to see the work of Matt and Kevin together? I believe they work together way better than Kevin with Avi (It could just be my bias), but you can see this clearly here: Pentatonix - New Rules x Are You That Somebody? (Official Video)
For the Matt/Kevin show (and showcasing Matt generally), I recommend "New Rules x Are You That Somebody". In general terms, although Matt doesn't go for the low end as often as Avi, I find his smooth sound blends a bit better with the others. And there is absolutely no question that as a bandmate he has been a huge asset - they call him "Drama-free Matt Sallee" for a reason! He's also an accomplished and theatrical showman, which shows up in the live performances and also, to some extent, in the video for "You're A Mean One, Mr. Grinch". I always look forward to your reactions, and I'm glad you finally made it to my favourite era.
Also for sounding like an instrument I find Avi in pentatonix Say something video sounds like a cello and Kevin has his cello but is plucking it where Avi sounds smooth in the back. Love it
This is my first time hearing PTX perform this song. It has an austere, exacting, undulating quality, the rise and fall of harmonies, a visual of folding -unfolding like an accordion or Japanese fan. I didn't discover PTX till early 2019, so Avi or Matt, doesn't matter, two beautiful souls, voices, styles. I've been learning so much as to why I'm most drawn to very quiet, soft, imperceptible music and artists. Watching your piano demo's, theory and arrangement analysis, I'm catching glimpses of my own musical DNA hidden in the keyboard notes or mysterious circle of fifths. No wonder I love Kang(Pitta), Debussy, Satie, Melody Gardot, Chopin and soft flamenco guitar to name but a few. I listen to a wide variety of genres, am open to learning, but they are what brings me the most meaning and peace. I was at a family funeral Mass this morning, there was a lone male classical singer-pianist, his voice was exquisite, the hymns, breathtaking, yes there were tears. Later I made a bee-line to thank him while simultaneously telling him about a "Sir" on "TH-cam", about Dimash, Diana, Forestella, Yamandu---he was so kind and gracious dealing with this shy but impassioned elle--I'm sure I amused him to no end--which is a lovely way to bookend a loss.
Sorry for your loss 🙏 Your musical predilections sound very similar to mine (or so I believe, based on the various information you've left in your comments previously 🎶). I owe my pursuit of music to Chopin. You might enjoy my most recent video - Dan Vasc's cover of Scarborough Fair. Heavily influenced by Simon & Garfunkel's version - so soft overall, folky...prominent acoustic guitar Thanks for spreading the word of Sir Hairless
Great reaction and analysis. Thank you so much for the time you spend, I appreciate you and appreciate PTX’s music so much more. I’d like to recommend Pentatonix live stream from the Hollywood bowl 2022, pretty much any song, but they do a 5 part harmony rendition of My Heart With You, which tears me up every time. 💜
LOVE this song! A big part of my youth! A quite complex arrangement, but there is nothing “Easy” about Pentatonix, right? Thank you, my friend, for such in depth analysis of this iconic song. ❤🇺🇸
❤❤❤❤❤ A beautiful rendition of this song. You said you already had lots of PTX suggestions 😂😂😂 but Amazing Grace and Kiss from a Rose, while on Christmas CDs are not Christmas, and two of my favorites As always an interesting reaction
If you want to hear how Matt and Kevin work together, may I suggest either New Rules x Are You That Somebody (Kevin is absolutely absurd in that one) or Havana? One other thing - go back and watch the official music video from this one. They released it when we were all still mostly staying away from people we loved and talking to them over Zoom during the pandemic. Pentatonix leaned in hard for the video, and that theme of bittersweet separation makes a lot of those dissonant cords make a whole lot more sense.
This is one of my favorite covers of them. I got chills every time. Also, I like listening to your explanation. I'm not musically knowledgeable albeit loving singing so I'm learning.
Beautiful reaction! Matt has grown so much in PTX. But to start there is usually Sound of Silence, then New Rules X Are You That Somebody, lots of Christmas and regular stuff, and then we get to some just amazing work. The recent O Holy Night and Kiss From A Rose showcase Matt with 2 beautiful solos. And as you said, the R&B of it is just breathtaking. Can't wait to see your reactions. Enjoy!
So many good recommendations for Matt songs! I agree with them all, but my vote goes to "Come Along." It's a strange song; many people comment on how happy it sounds, but I think the lyrics are really dark. Anyway, I liked Matt from the start, despite the huge ache in my heart over Avi's departure. But this song is the one that told me, "Yeah, this is gonna work."
For more Matt focus you should listen to The Sound of Silence, New Rules X Are You That Somebody, You're A Mean One, Mr. Grinch (lead singer), Amazing Grace (My Chains Are Gone), O Holy Night, and Kiss from a Rose.
Check out this PTX reaction next th-cam.com/video/PJbTtW_l5sw/w-d-xo.html
Matt's bass behind Kirsten's solo in Amazing Grace always gives me chills....
Their Amazing Grace video is among the most beautiful both musically and visually. Mitch and Kirstin just bring it.
@@neetgupta1 I'm not most people
Thanks - everything you've suggested is on my (rather large) list already 👌
Tight vibrato vs flat tone is still a pretty noticeable difference I think due to the type of sound produced, so I pick the moments I comment on flat tone carefully (I really need to come up with a better term for 'flat tone' because people could interpret that as singing under pitch 😅 Will keep an eye/ear out for it though in Sound of Silence when the time comes!
Much much much more PTX to explore
@@SirHairless I think "straight tone" is what most people use, unless I'm misunderstanding your use of "flat tone"

I hope Sir Hairless does both versions of "Oh Holy Night" for Christmas. It will be interesting to see his comments on their growth from the early version to the newest release (not to compare which is better or who is better, but growth only.)

Oh yes, his part was wonderful in Making Christmas, and the whole group loved that arrangement because it was so challenging.
Scott was so proud of this arrangement. There was a video he posted of him playing for his mother over the phone and they’re both crying ❤❤
that clip is on the PTX TT page from late in 2021.

Terrific choice!
Thank you. ✌👉
And so the legend grows - when I first came to Pentatonix a few years ago, I heard it was two Red Bulls!
Yesssss. The Singapore version is sick!
I love their crunchy Imogen Heap sounds as well. Please react to: Where are U Now. It is older (Avi era). Beautiful Mitch lead and real "juicy"!
Yay!!! We've entered the Matt era. I absolutely love Avi but Matt brings something magical to PTX. Can't wait to see more reactions to Matt and obviously to Avi.
Love your reactions! Matt really shines in O Holy Night. He has a smooth chocolate versatile voice!
Love Matt's bass! It is smooth like butter.
To hear Matt, listen to Mr grinch, kiss from a rose, amazing grace, o holy night and lots of others…..
And butter/dynamite, prayers for this world, joyful joyful live
From the "Matt era" I like Mr Grinch and My favorite things
I do hope you react to "Come Along". Matt sounds like a cello, and there are, what I think, different moods/tempos throughout the song. If you haven't heard the song, I find the ending quite surprising. Continue loving your reactions!! ❤
It is SUCH an enjoyable song!
Evolutions of Ariana Grande/Rihanna both with Matt are fantastic, stripped down, and one-take
I love these sooomuch! Fantastic recommendations
They released this on the Christmas CD Evergreen in the fall of 2021. The video is very touching. It is really worth a watch.
I’m so glad for you to hear Matt but also to hear a more recent PTX performance!❤
Yessssss now that there’s Matt, and since you love beach boys!! They performed Heroes and Villains live in a beach boys celebration- it’s nuts!!
They also covered God Only Knows for a Christmas album too (I think)
So excited to finally get your analysis and comments on the stuff from the Matt era!
I love to watch all of their hands. I think Kirsty is very graceful.
Love your reactions and the way you analyse their works of art! Kiss from a rose will make you stunned, I promise)
I’m sure you have sound of silence on your list , it’s a must
It's on there!
I get so much from your analyses and as a result this avid PTX fan hears detail I hadn't noticed before. Excellent reactions are like lessons in listening. Thanks!😊😊😊😊
I feel exactly the same way! He has brought so many new details out of the songs he reviews, and it's like hearing them again for the first time.
P.S. I enjoyed seeing the screen in the left-hand corner, it seems more natural.
IMO. ❤
Scott can rarely control his hands. They are an extension of his emotional response to just about everything. 😂 Matt and Kevin are also hand movers. Mitch and Kirstie seem less inclined but often you’ll see them joining in.
Your ability to hear the parts and break down the songs is amazing. Great reaction!
You should check out their releases this year of Kiss From A Rose and O Holy Night - both the live Vevo versions.
Matt explodes in O Holy Night. Beautiful!!!!!
Imogen Heap is one of their fave artists (at least the trio). They would love to work with her. Side comment: Your insight is so freaking interesting. I love watching your face while listening to them.
There was some really good ‘stank face’
This is an iconic song Stevie Wonder wrote.( I m assuming he wrote the song which I. think he did)
Wow Ive never heard PTX sing this.
I love Avi but I also love Matt. Each have their own strong points.
This is a great example of how lovely a capella music is just so pure. It's why I love a capella so much. Lots of good filth in this song
Thanks SH
💖 R/A 🎼
Both Avi and Matt have four-year degrees from music colleges, Matt's from Berklee, one of the top five music schools in the US.
Scott, Mitch, and Kirsten were all coached by an excellent voice teacher. I believe that her influence is part of the hand movements.
I can imagine the Martin High School choral teacher telling a class including Kirstie, Mitch and Scott that hand motions can help you find the line.
All of these! Yes!
The hand motions - I think it’s a memory device for their individual parts, sort of conducting themselves, if that makes sense.
If you want a good example of the Matt/KO duet, you can watch the evolution of Rihanna or Ariana Grande.
Love your reactions!
Greetings from France.
'New Rules x Are You That Somebody', 'My Favorite Things', 'Making Christmas', and 'Kiss From A Rose' are all fabulous with Matt!
I've always said that the hardest job in the music industry HAS to be the sound engineer at a live Pentatonix performance! 💞 😊
And, Mitch loves Imogen Heap.
On hand movements: IMHO it goes to each artist having their whole body (and being) engaged into what they’ve doing.
Kevin and Matt together.. in joyful joyful live... and
'The kevin show/kevins 5th' can see their dynamic live in both
The official video is so sweet, you should watch it.
You’re a Mean One Mr. Grinch showcases Matt. Thanks for continuing the PTX journey.
Now you are in Matt era, there is a perfect song to showcase Matt
(and, of course Mitch). Also it is perfect if you need to energize or do housework! Peek at Come Along originally by the wonderfully named Cosmo Sheldrake. So much fun.
I'm so excited. Now you can react to Sound of Silence. That's a good one to hear Matt on.
I believe they work together way better than Kevin with Avi (It could just be my bias), but you can see this clearly here:
Pentatonix - New Rules x Are You That Somebody?
Love it
Love their voices
Yesss I knew what you meant when you talked about the dissonance. I’m learning and loving it. Thank you 😊
Your analysis amazes me. Thank you for the reaction.
Wow! I dont even know what to say. I dont know who arranged this, but wow!!!
Sorry for your loss 🙏
Your musical predilections sound very similar to mine (or so I believe, based on the various information you've left in your comments previously 🎶). I owe my pursuit of music to Chopin.
You might enjoy my most recent video - Dan Vasc's cover of Scarborough Fair. Heavily influenced by Simon & Garfunkel's version - so soft overall, folky...prominent acoustic guitar
Thanks for spreading the word of Sir Hairless
Great reaction and analysis. Thank you so much for the time you spend, I appreciate you and appreciate PTX’s music so much more.
I’d like to recommend Pentatonix live stream from the Hollywood bowl 2022, pretty much any song, but they do a 5 part harmony rendition of My Heart With You, which tears me up every time. 💜
I love this one 😊
Wow- I just enjoy your reactions so much - Just amazing - thank you!
As always, I really enjoyed your reaction.
LOVE this song! A big part of my youth! A quite complex arrangement, but there is nothing “Easy” about Pentatonix, right? Thank you, my friend, for such in depth analysis of this iconic song. ❤🇺🇸
Beautiful.
Matt’s voice seems velvety.
Love this song
If you want to hear Matt and Kevin do some crazy harmonising you should check out
New rules/ are you that somebody.
And their chemistry shines!
Thank you sir. Like your job, as always)❤
This is one of my favorite covers of them. I got chills every time. Also, I like listening to your explanation. I'm not musically knowledgeable albeit loving singing so I'm learning.
I like both Avi and matt, just different feels to their voices but both sound fantastic in the group. Matt sounds fantastic in o holy night!
Enjoy!
I love listening to your analysis. I hear things in a whole new way and appreciate the music even more. Thank you
❤
