As an England fan watching the men in the Euros, it's refreshing to see a game where the attacking players are going at the goal with directness, pace and aggression. Chawinga run from the halfway line must be in contention for goal of the season?

KC Current vs Orlando Pride really has felt like a NWSL Championship
Kansas and Orlando are teams that manage the Intermediate Spaces very well in order to break the Lines of Pressure. Of course, each has powerful weapons (Tabitha Chawinga from Malawi and Barbra Banda from Zambia) which can generate Rupture Breaks even in Tight Spaces. Each one has its own style.
Orlando's expulsion was absolutely unnecessary (they were executing a correct Withdrawal and the Supports at that moment were evident) then they had to switch to a 4-4-2 formation and forget about High Pressing. Fortunately they found the penalty when the game was very complex.
In my opinion, the Kansas Coach was too passive and fearful, they had one extra player and they had to try to Widen the Ground to try to trigger Percussions and Beat the opponent's Lines. Orlando was certainly having a hard time doing Tilts when he was in Defensive Transition.

That penalty is the type of call that leaves a bad taste even when it might be the rigth one. You know that the GK has run over the striker, but you also know that the GK could not stop her momentum in mid air and the ball was not in play.
Tense and exciting the whole time. Regardless of how you view that pen, KCC still couldn't find a way to score another goal against an Orlando Pride team of 10 at their own stadium. Round 2 in September can't come soon enough.

1- the penalty, I'm not really sure about a) did the goalkeeper crush into the attacking player or b) the attacker crushed into the goalkeeper? they both were going for the ball.
2- Orlando grinded a game; they knew how to win it. They take advantage of Banda (they should)
3- Kansas City and Orlando are still the favorites for this year final.
4-The foul on Marta.
-Well, the athletic (bigger players) take advantage of their bigger body to push the smaller player out of the ball (Banda, Showinga, are some examples). All I ask is the referee to be consistent with their calls.
Awesome, fluid game, despite all the fouls. Felt like a championship game. The rematch will be sizzling, especially if both teams are at full strength.

tbh, that yellow was a deep, dark yellow... attacked from behind, with both feet/legs, ball far away... could have been a straight red. Luckily the woman severed no injury but you can surely tear something there.

Marta plays the ball, skies it - Franch runs into her after the ball's been played away (inadvertent contact?)...did VAR play a part in it? Technically a foul inside the area results in a penalty, but...? Seems like some mental gymnastics to arrive at that decision by the ref
That was not a penalty but a good game overall. Two of the best attacking teams in the league.

@@johnmcgimpsey1825 Normally, when the attacker gets to take the shot and then gets contact, they don't call the incidental contact a foul. If the goalie had stopped the ball through that action, maybe but the player took the shot and clearly missed. Should not have been a penalty.

@@johnmcgimpsey1825 But where are the other 5? They never showed the first one against Lawrence, nor did the show the yellows for Labonta, Marta, Hutton, and Mace. You at least see the foul from Franch that I assume that she got carded for, but they gloss over it. They just show the collision and then include the announcers talking about how they don't know what there is a PK suddenly. It's not very informative to someone that didn't get to watch the whole game. To me, showing the yellow card fouls better paints the picture of how the game evolved. It would put more emphasis on the stakes for Lawrence versus Chawinga as she is sitting on a yellow every time she tries to get physical in her defense.
Current looked too tentative in the first half. Referee never let the game flow. Whoever won or if there was a tie, the game was dominated by poor officiating. Each team suffered terrible calls against. If this was the best NWSL had to offer for the "best"game of the year, it's still decades behind the men's. A poor call was followed by a make-up call. Grade school quality. Sad.

I mean if there's a foul or something going on the referee has to call it that's their job
It's so easy to complain about "poor officiating" as long as you don't actually give any specific examples. There was NOTHING that I saw in these highlights that could be described that way. What Laws weren't followed in those terrible calls that each team suffered? What 'poor call' and 'make-up call' are you referring to, and what exactly in the Laws are you basing your assessment on? To someone who has actually officiated, calling this "grade school quality" really makes you sound like you have no idea what you're talking about.
