    Probably the best I've seen Portland play this season. Smith & Linehan have the potential to be one of the most deadliest combos in soccer. Coffey was phenomenal as always

    Reing did not play bad today, all teams are creating chances; the difference is: you have to score goals, you have to put aways your chances. Reing had plenty of chances and could not put them away. When the Thorns put away their chances (score goals), the heart of the Reign's player sank.

    I want to emphasize something that I like about a player. Sofia Smith is a good individualist player (her tendency), But today she was passing the ball (teamwork). Did it work?_just look at the result: a win, they won.
    As the league becomes more professional; the player also will evolve and will overcome "the solo hero mentality" they were taught in college.
    Good for Sofia, she has added another dimension to her game: keep it up...The same goes for Rodman, Swanson and company.

    When I saw "13" go up for stoppage, I thought: 1) that's cruel - you're asking this team to try and compete for that much longer, and 2) Seems a bit excessive for the time that was actually stopped in the 2nd half. A lot of fun seeing Seattle get beat that way in the end, and I didn't realize Soph had all three assists. Way to be!!!

    • @HurrikanEagle

    • @DukeTrout
      @DukeTrout หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      The laws have changed recently such that deflections off of the player’s body don’t automatically exclude handling. This was the correct call, as she put her arm out in front of the path of the ball. If the shot had been higher and hit Huerta’s arm directly, this would have been an easy DOGSO red card.

    I'll take "How to get a ton of comments from people who don't understand the handball rule" for 1000, Alex 👋🏻⚽
    Bottom line is, Huerta could have had her arm tucked in or behind her back. The rules say if your arm is where it doesn't _need_ to be, you run the risk of a handball.

    absurd penalty decision - "Handling the ball
    For the purposes of determining handball offences, the upper boundary of the arm is in line with the bottom of the armpit. Not every touch of a player’s hand/arm with the ball is an offence.
    It is an offence if a player:
    deliberately touches the ball with their hand/arm, for example moving the hand/arm towards the ball
    touches the ball with their hand/arm when it has made their body unnaturally bigger. A player is considered to have made their body unnaturally bigger when the position of their hand/arm is not a consequence of, or justifiable by, the player’s body movement for that specific situation. By having their hand/arm in such a position, the player takes a risk of their hand/arm being hit by the ball and being penalised"

    • @noodle_fc
      @noodle_fc หลายเดือนก่อน

      So weird that you quote the rule as if it supports you. Huerta's arm is away from her body and didn't have to be. She could have tucked it behind her. *"By having their hand/arm in such a position, the player takes a risk of their hand/arm being hit by the ball and being penalised."* That's what happened! She fucked around and found out.

    5:03 What a shambolic decision here ! VAR overrides the central referee ?!? How is this rewarding good football ? The attacker is not in on goal. They beg for a call instead of playing to the whistle. The defender makes the stop with the foot. Involuntary ricochet / deflection from leg to arm is not handball !! The referee had a good view of it and made the correct choice to let the play continue. Even the attacking squad was not convinced and did not argue for a penalty. And here comes the VAR, takes 3 solid minutes off the clock, killing all the momentum of the game and awarding a penalty based on a new, completely made-up version of soccer rules ! Portland was the better team, they did not need this kind of gifts to spoil their merit in the victory.

    • @DukeTrout

    • @DukeTrout
      @DukeTrout หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      The Laws for handling changed in the last couple of years. You might be thinking of the old rules. Deflection off the player’s body is no longer automatically not handling.

    Hard to believe that ref took four minutes of review to rule a handball. It's like he was hoping he'd see something different, but it just kept hitting her forearm. After four minutes, he's like "alright fine. Thorns get a penalty." And then Seattle whined and whined like they'd been hard done. 🙄

    • @DukeTrout
      @DukeTrout หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@davidt3956 The previous rules included the wording that said that deflections off the same player meant that an immediately subsequent contact with hand or arm was not handling. This was a problematic rule, because it meant even deliberate handling after deflection wouldn’t be ruled as such. The hypothetical extreme would be if I, as a defender in the box, had the ball deflect off my leg, I could grab it and run all the way downfield carrying the ball and throw it in the opposing net for a goal, rules-as-written. So it’s a good thing that wording is gone, in my opinion.
