before becoming a professional rock photographer I started out as bodyguard guarding rockstars and we guarded Van Halen on several occasions. The spinning flying cresent kick Dave does in Jump was taught to him by one of our guys (White Dragon Security) when they opened for the Rolling Stones in Orlando, Florida. I shot them a lot of times for magazines back in the 80's.and always had a blast doing it
I remember you saying something about being a bodyguard before turning photographer. I lost touch with you on facebook as I lost my channel there. I'm opening up another one soon and will be in touch again. Thanks for watching and your comment. Love your photography work!
Sounds like a blast amazing
RIP to the greatest guitarist 🎸 that ever walked this earth!👑🕯🌹🕊
KING EDWARD!
R.I.P
Eddie is a true legend 🎸🤘
One thing I always loved about Eddie was he was always smiling on stage. He loved playing guitar and it showed. I met him once on the 1st tour with Sammy. They were the nicest guys you could meet. We were working in the stadium. So we were able to get in the backstage areas.
Had the good fortune to meet Ed at a hotel during the Fair Warning tour. Drank a beer with him and shot the breeze for about ten minutes. He was as nice as you could ever hope he'd be. Truly a cherished memory.
Always liked Eddie not just as a guitar player but for his overall demeanor and creativity in more than his playing. His Frankenstein axe was tech breakthrough along with him holding several patents on it's construction. He also devised a way to run his amps at full power while being able to seperately control the volume. Saw an interview once where he said he got the idea from those dimmer light switches that came out late '60s.
Great tribute Doc. Gonna have me two burritos and a root beer float for lunch today.
RIP Edward van Halen
Good job
Very nice pictures
Thanks you
You're welcome. Thanks for stopping by and watching.
Great job! Thanks RD!! Rock on brother!!
I stood on the front row in front of Edward twice, I believe 81 and 84… dude was such a badass!
Awesome video and a Fantastic Guitar player and Band. When I first heard Jamie's Cryin song off the first album, I had to have the album! Thanks for the video.
Mr Van Halen is was and will always be one of if not the best.
Innovative guitarist for me goes
Hendrix
Iommi
Page
King Edward Van Halen!
One of the few who did a guitar solo in concert and NOBODY goes to get a beer or the bathroom.
I saw Eddie 5 times live and every time he NEVER disappointed
Yeah I love Eddie Van Halen but usually like Page's playing a little bit more with that violin bow it's just mind boggling
When VH1 debuted I was thirteen and like most kids that year I was blown away by what I was hearing. Eddie was a game changer and I am so glad to have witnessed his genius. Seeing him live was a bucket list item checked off for me. Eddie was a generous person as well but I think the biggest act of generosity was the gift he and Valerie gave to the world through Wolfgang Van Halen. Eddie, I know was very proud of his son and rightfully so. Wolfgang is way more talented than all of realize as of yet. Thanks RD and Message to EVH you will never be forgotten. Thanks for all the memories. ( Favorite VH album Fair Warning)🎶
Well said. Thanks for watching!
as for dimebag, he was truly the greatest after eddie, and vulgar display of power lives in my cd player in my ford, check out those live russian gigs...especially domination clip...even had his brother on drums as well , another genius.❤
Doc , you nailed it . Wolfgang Von Lampman was born a week before in the same Pasadena Hospital .
Thank you RD,
I learn from your work. I find it very informative although I was never a VH fan. I do give credit where credit is due. They were a talented musicians I just never cared for their sound. Boe
You're welcome Boe. Appreciate your support.
Great Band ,cool Doc, Thanks for sharing.R/D
You bet. Thanks for watching Dennis!
good history, short but thank you. I was chocked by the bubble bee story. Eddie was a man with a great heart. I had the honor to sit and talk with at rainbow bar and grill in 82. I also wanted his guitar. he sent me to the guitar center to buy his first endorsed guitar. Kramer. this was before the Floyd rose. each string had a Allen screw. later when I was in Japan I replaced it with the Floyd rose. I tried to contact Eddie when he was diagnosed with cancer. I wrote his new wifebon Facebook but no reply. I think fb censored because I sent videos on mega dose vitC. IV way. I have had 2 friends recover and still alive today that used. I am heart broken because maybe he , just maybe still be alive.
Thx DOC this was excellent.
You do a great job all the time
There are many great guitarists. There are only two who completely redefined rock guitar and completely changed the game: Jimi and Edward.
Well done
Excellent video, "as usual?" Great content, very informative!
Keep them coming brutha... ✌
Nicely done.
First of all thanks for another great little mini documentary about one of my guitar heroes! I really appreciate your delivery and respect for the artists.
Eddie was probably the greatest inspiration for me to start playing guitar and even though I’ve tried to copy some of his style and technique, there’s no way i’ll ever be able to play much of what he did.
You're welcome. Thanks for watching and your comment!
He was one of the greatest guitarists trully...but man i had a big crush (adult) lol
Signed in early 1977, recording in late 1977 ya big goof!
Thanks 🤘 and more thanks for mentioning Dime and the completely cool thing Eddie did for him
You're welcome!!
Saw them at the US Festival in 1983. They were chugging Jack Daniels on stage and had an awesome laser show. Heavy Metal Sunday.
🤘👽👽👽🎸
Much of EVH’s guitar style reminds me of a piano player. The fretboard becomes the keyboard and he uses both hands to hit notes. If you watch his interview at the Smithsonian it really illustrates this.
To be fair Townshend with The Who played loud and jumped really high 😉. For me the Trilogy of Rock Guitar is Jimi, Beck and EVH.
Way Rad
I was born in Shreveport Louisiana and every time we would see a limousine we would say that might be Eddie Van Halen and Valerie in there lol
Cool
I think Steve Hackett from Genesis was also tapping in the early 70s.
Eddie went to a zeppelin concert and that's where he saw Jimmy do a small tapping on one of the songs at the concert and he ran with it
Eddie Van Halen the best guitarist ever in my opinion. Now though I am very impressed by young Wolf's music, the kid can play everything kinda Dave Grohl like
Thumbs up 👍 how's it been going?
Died from cigarettes. Always had a cigarette. I hate cigarettes.
a friend of mine saw van halen at anaheim ,along with 500ooo other people that day...i dunno , but more people went on that day than the whole five day festival...500ooo? is anaheim that big? eddie had his OWN chops, but guitars are guitars ,and what sounds good is based on the magic of intervals..theres now kids sweeping and tapping in ways that really are great..but they arent sweating ,and have no stagecraft...van halen is the ultimate party band..alex makes the whole thing happen ,eddie surfs, micheal nails it down, dave is dave..❤
In my opinion it's crazy burying stuff with people, eventually their body fully decomposes and turns to dust and their stuff is just laying in the coffin
Tapping is something Django Rheinhardt may have done, as well as T Bone Walker. The latter also played guitar behind his back and between his legs. Hendrix may have copied this from him.
I was talking to a friend just the other day. This guy is a guitar player and going on 90 years old and he said that Buddy Guy was was playing behind his back long before Hendrix. It does make you think about how all of this came to be. Thanks for watching and your comment.
The Demo tape Gene Simmons produced sounds better than the record! You can hear it’s called Zero it’s on TH-cam . Gene paid for everything bought them Clothes. Gene helped them a lot
Les Paul tapped.
So did Steve Hackett
The only thing I didn't like about eddie was the way he got rid of Mike Anthony. People think they have friends but they don't. Fake friends.
That's YOUR opinion .
Teacher not teacherS ya big goober!!
