Kids and parents alike enjoy the good nature of these birds. Although they are solidly covered in black feathers, they radiate a gorgeous iridescent sheen reflecting green, purple, and pink hues in the light. They are very broody, meaning that they enjoy setting on eggs and hatching out babies if their environment allows. They will do well in small coops as well as large yards allowing them to be an important part of any flock.

Little heads up for you people that aim to get some Australorps, we've had a small flock of Australorps for quite some time now, and for those seeking to get some they should know they're very bad at incubation, so if you seek chickens to rest on their own eggs for chicks this is not the type, as most chickens they dont run well with multiple roosters, the estimate is one rooster per 10ish but i wouldnt go for more then 15 each ( we've got 2 roosters on 9 chickens and it used to be quite problematic ) though on the postitive side they're very good backyard chickens, natural explorers and go great with kids :)

Just a quick clarification, Australorps were definitely first bred in Australia but they are not native Australian animals. Great video though, what beauties!

I love black australorps and I've noticed how small the australorps have been in the last few years they have turned into a production chicken so therefore lost their size. I wish I knew of a hatchery that carried large black australorps. If you know of any please let me know I would appreciate it.

We have Black Australorps we will start shipping in February. Have you looked at the White Plymouth Rock if you want a white chicken. They are a little bigger and lay about the same number of eggs.
