    I don't know why it is but it's difficult to see just how fast the cars are going down the front straight as compared to seeing them from the rear, driving away from the chicane. From the rear you can see just how fast that are rocketing down the straight past the stands and beyond. Love all the Goodwood races. Thank you for posting them!

      I think the jaguar is faulty , you can see the pilot steering to the left for a fraction of a second , did he do it on purpose or not ? One can argue it was to recover from the glide , but i have the feeling he pushed the cobra out ...

      At the 1:17 to go mark, the 'E's front wheel definitely twitches left. A necessary adjustment, or a deliberate nudge? I love the Lightweights, but it did look slightly fishy...

      Regarding putting roofs on Cobras, my guess is that they put fiberglass roofs on the ragtops in order to turn a sports car or roadster into a GT car for the purpose of the rules of this race. You could buy after market removable hard tops for Cobras and Tigers (as well as most ragtops like the XKE roadster) back in the day; but they generally conformed to the soft top lines. These hardtops seem to be shaped more like fastbacks , probably for aerodynamic reasons. Which brings me to my question about this video. I feel like I came in the middle of a movie. I thought this footage was circa 1964, when I never missed an SCCA road race at Watkins Glen , NY. Stingrays, XKEs, 289 Cobras, a must be one of a kind Sunbeam Tiger (Which had Daytona Coupe body work done on it), Ferrari GTOs, etc. But because of the shape of the hard tops and the name of the vid , this must be a vintage car race Am I correct? I never knew there were enough 289 Cobras made to take them racing almost 55 years later.

  • @gtracer6629

    I'm curious. I dont remember any races in the US where Jag XK-E types were competitive with Cobras. By the time I started racing in 1968-+969, we never had any E types even showing up. At least in SCCA amateur racing.
    Were these Cobras running restricted engines or were the Jags allowed more modification than we had in SCCA?

      These are lightweight or semi lightweight e types putting out 340 bhp. At the 1964 Goodwood TT they were able to beat the Shelby American Inc. Cobra Daytonas

    • @johncarl5505
      @johncarl5505 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      A majority of race tracks are way bigger than Goodwood. That's where the Cobra's power came in handy. Or they were put in the back like the Mustangs and Camaros. I honestly don't know how Goodwood qualifying works, but usually the muscle is at the front, sometimes they use a reverse grid where the Mustangs, Camaros, Falcons, etc. will have to cut through the field.

EDIT: Just watched highlights of 2017 RAC TT just to check on 56Stick's claim of this dude wrecking people 2 years in a row....2017 was way worse than this...Guy spent most of his race banging his fender into the back of Cobras that he couldn't pass cleanly then finally drove straight through the back of a guy to try and get the lead...He got a 30 sec penalty for that...Should have got DQ'ed...He's gonna kill someone.

    Love these races and the cars, but really wish the videography was better. Stop showing so many close-ups of the cars and show us the race. I see the same thing with pretty much all racing coverage to include commercial TV. The camera needs to pan back and give us a view of not only the cars, but where they're going and the track ahead of them in the same shot. We should be able to see the the corner entry, apex, corner exit, and upcoming straight all in the same frame as the cars are moving through a turn. But the way the cameras are typically used we can't see the racer's line.
    Whoever's in charge of setting up the cameras perspectives needs to do HPDE or some other track events so that they have a clue. But, unfortunately, as great as these cars and the races are, it can be frustrating to watch.
    Thank you
