    I can attest to taking these ketones without changing to a keto diet. I was given a sample of keto salts a few months back and tried it. I immediately felt some mental clarity and mood stabilization. It was pretty profound. So, I ordered some with the intention of using it to try to help get over some of the deep fatigue I feel trying to get into keto. I'll admit, I just didn't get on correcting my diet but did take these ketones anyway. I started losing weight without trying. I also have stopped having the afternoon slump where I am tired and I no longer feel like I'm starving to death between meals despite the fact that I am still a sugar burner.
    I ran out of my ketones in April and quickly started gaining the weight back, plus all the afternoon slump and hangry feelings came back. I ordered some again, started taking it last week and I'm already losing weight again and returning to controlled hunger and no afternoon exhaustion. But, it is lame to take these indefinitely the way I'm doing it (or at all, really) so today I started dropping my carbs down. We'll see how it works for what I intended it for!

    I've experienced ketosis in several different ways, over the past few years:
    1) intermittent fasting
    2) prolonged long term fasting (3-5 day fasts)
    3) eating a ketogenic diet
    4) more recently, I've tried taking exogenous ketones.
    Methods 1-3 are cheap or free (it costs nothing to fast). Method 4, taking exogenous ketones, has one drawback: it's expensive. A little jar of EKs can cost you $50 or more. And as others have pointed out, it does not involve burning your own body fat.
    But with that said, it works. I don't know people get so upset about other people taking exogenous ketones. They're just an alternative way of experiencing ketosis. If you don't want to buy or take them, don't buy or take them. But don't have a hissy fit or go screaming profanity online about people who decide to try them.

    • @wynngwynn
      @wynngwynn 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I haven't seen people react that badly to it, just that they're a waste of money considering you can get the same thing for free. Exogenous are mostly useful if you aren't strict.

    If you are in nutritional ketosis for weight loss, it seems counter intuitive to take the ex. Ketones, won't yhe body just use those for energy instead of breaking down stored fat? Or do they help speed up that process, i am confused.

    Video opportunity.
    Been watching TD videos for over two months now. Down 24 lbs. plus all the bad ass benefits of KETO and IF in general. It’s my new life style and I love it. Thank you!!!
    Question: where do I get my carbs from?
    I’ve seen tons of videos about where our fats, proteins, vitamins/minerals (6-9 cups of green leafy veggies) come from but I’m not sure what I should be consuming for the 5% of carbs. If the green veggies are not a good source of carbs then where should we be getting out carbs from, types of food and quality?
    This would be a great video.

      I did this sort of as an experiment, I was in ketosis really quickly just by fasting for 20h or so and I always do OMAD. If you eat a lot all day then it'll be harder to get back in quickly. I hated how it affected my blood sugar and I won't do it again though. I might've been out of ketosis for a few hours but the fasting brought it back within a day.

    Thomas, I finally got a ketone meter and found I wasn't in ketosis..I've been fasting, eliminated carbs and on a pretty strict keto diet plan confirmed by most of your information in your videos for about a month now. I did break my 24hr fast last night to have some food but also drinks at a 50th bday celebration. So, last drink was at 9pm. I haven't eaten or drank anything since. Took my ketone test at 12:45pm the next afternoon. No ketones! Then I took some exogenous ketones and re-tested at 2:00, reading went to .1..extremely disappointed. Here it is now at 3:00 and still fasting..I will take the exogenous ketones again at 4:00 and test tonight around my 24 hours mark of the fast..I believed I was in ketosis because these 18hr, 24 hour fasts have been relatively easy for me..any thoughts?

    Mr. DeLauer, thanks for this info! I've been doing IF to lower sugar and lose weight. I've out about 25 and sugars are normal but I seem to be stuck in a plateau. Would exogenous ketones break through the barrier and help me PF longer as opposed to just IF to make some real progress? Seems I do ok for a while then sugar/carb cravings strike back! Not sure I've really gotten into ketosis although I have seen some benefits.

      kamaka96791 if you are already in ketosis then it is not required. If you do something that disrupts ketosis then I think it would be very helpful to maintain a minimal ketone level in the blood stream! This protects muscle mass! I don't understand why these products are not the rage for the simply reason they spare muscle catabolism. I want to test this with high intensity long duration cardio that is very catabolic.

    What's going on Thomas, thanks for all the great content man, srsly. I'm really starting to doubt the keto diet in terms of metabolism though. How does one maintain muscle fullness and density on a ketogenic diet? Will strength levels on compound lifts ever be the same, or better, on keto vs high carb?

    • @etfremd
      @etfremd 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      UNQRTHQDQX_2 it takes full adaptation which can be 2 months or maybe more for some folks. The glycolytic processes for maximum strength will still be sugar driven and your liver is producing enough sugar stored in the liver and muscles for these intense bursts. I assume it takes further conditioning and training for this to be enhanced i.e. more time required.

    I've just found you on TH-cam and I'm loving the videos . I wanted to ask a question about exogenous ketones. I've seen lots of stuff on this recently and I'm really interested in this topic.
    If I take exogenous ketones that will mean that I will have ketones in the blood. That means that potentially I will use the ketones as a fuel source but if I'm taking an exogenous ketones will my fat stores decrease?
    I'm inclined to believe that exogenous ketones can help to familiarise your body with the process of ketosis but I'm still none the wiser as to if they will alter my body composition. Hopefully you can help out.

    • @lucasrendo3542
      @lucasrendo3542 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Don't take my opinion for a fact, but the way creatine works is by binding itself to the ATP chains creating more links that the body can use as energy, since this a form of energy provided by glucose i believe the effect of creatine would be useless.
      Also ATp links releases energy when they are broken down by water particules and since your body can't retain water well on ketosis, even if you used ATP energy it wouldn't be as efficient

    • @wildmansamurai3663
      @wildmansamurai3663 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      lucas rendo I agree and when I used creatine I actually had a problem losing weight.. this is because creatine retains water in the body and muscles.. I just deal with the soreness of working out.

      Wtf..... You're sugar addicted. You need to do some interment Fasting and get off those high glycemic starches. The cravings will go away if you stick to it so suck it up.

      Your next step is to do a three day water fast and see if that helps your carb craving for rice

    Why don’t you separate your need to show off your body, from the help channel you’re trying to put forth on the keto program. That way we (the dudes) don’t need to be forced to watch you. We get it , you’re proud..who wouldn’t be. But it would be nice to have the choice because it is very gross for most dudes. Make yourself a calendar if you are so inclined, just don’t flash it in front of our eyes.

    Consume fat to burn fat what's the point. Fat burns slowly makes everything miserable. In addition ketosis is not healthy.

      kaibeau, tell the same thing to cyclist or what ever active people and they laugh. Carbohydrates are needed.
      Most of your body cells use the simple carbohydrate glucose for energy, but your brain is particularly in need of glucose as an energy source.
