Nicoll Highway collapse: 20 years on, friends remember 'Hero Heng' who lost his life saving others

- Twenty years may have passed, but former colleagues still remember their foreman ‘Hero Heng’. Every year, they attend a memorial service to honour Mr Heng Yeow Pheow, who lost his life saving eight others during the Nicoll Highway collapse in 2004. His body was never found but his legacy remains close to the hearts of many. CNA’s Aslam Shah speaks to Mr Heng’s colleagues as they gather for the 20th anniversary of his death.

He deserves a memorial of some sort. I still rmb reading his heroics as a schoolboy. RIP Hero Heng.
Maybe money for his family. People usually only remember the bosses when a construction project is completed.
Even I cannot forget this man. Can’t imagine the pain the family members must go through.
He is the epitome of heroism. Others before self. His family should be very proud of him. He will never be forgotten!
At lease the people he saves still honor and remember him, offering their condolences to the extend of visiting him and the site almost every year . If he still could sense , I’m sure his heart will be warmed by this moment. RIP Hero Heng .

I remembered members of public who dont knew him personally went to pay vigil and respect to him at his ceremonial servce.

Actually don't understand why the body cannot be found since bury inside?
The incident site got really unstable, and could cause the surrounding area (that hasnt collapsed) to collapse further. So they had to stabilise the incident site by pumping in cement, thereby permanently burying his remains in that spot

@@jeffseah397 actually can set up a memorial/grave since it's where he was buried. Maybe the family doesn't want (avoiding the extra spotlight), I guess?
