I have requested this on a few channels. Glad to see that you have finally gotten around to it. Hal passed away only about one or two years ago.
    He has several great songs.
The original video to this song is really nice.

"Past the point of rescue" was the title track of Hal's debut album in the early '90, which also contains "Small town saturday night". Those two songs were Hal's biggest hits(either No.1 or very close to it) and, in my opinion at least, are among the best '90s country has to offer. I also love "I miss my Mary" from the same album.
Don't quote me on this one, but I'm rather sure that the songwriter Mick Hanly is Irish and that the song was already rather popular over there before Hal covered it and had the most successful version of it.

What a fabulous choice Don. Hal is a super talent, and this is one his best. I've always wanted to see him in concert but he didn't come my way at the right times. Thanks Don for the excellent reaction!

Yeah, he had some great songs. More good ones are “Hearts Are Gonna Roll” and “Sure Love”.

The song was written by MIck Henley who lives in Limerick Ireland. It was previously recorded by the Dixie Chicks on their debut album "LIttle Ol' Cowgirl"

This is also a very easy but extremely fun song to play on lead guitar. Great reaction! Huge fan on Hal and you.

In July 1994 I saw Hal perform at the short-lived Great Northeast Jamboree at Batavia Downs in Batavia, New York; and it was a great show. Hal was originally from Greenwich, a small town in northern New York State located between Saratoga Springs and the Vermont border. In the early 1980s Hal made his way to Austin, Texas; and he was part of that scene throughout the decade before signing with Curb Records and moving to Nashville. He paid his dues, and his major label debut "Past the Point of Rescue" album with the title song catapulted him to fame.

Hal & John Berry were two of the best voices in music at a time and never got the recognition they deserved. Hal wrote some deep lyrics too.

I love this song, there is a video here on YT from years ago with Hal and the gentleman from Ireland who wrote the song (Mick Hanly) singing it together. Its so good! 🙂

Great reaction and great dive into the lyrical meanings. I’ve always loved this song. The chord progression is great and the dominant minor throughout just pulls at your heart.

@benjamminnw Thanks for the kind words, especially from an artist like you! I don't know chord progressions since I'm not a musician, but I sense the way the tempo and mood changes and whether it agrees or disagrees with the lyrics (whether purposeful or otherwise). So much to think about when analyzing an artistic composition.
