He was originally supposed to be a douche and be 'Billy' at least that's what I read somewhere. But the creators loved Joe Keery so much they quickly decided to change his arc and make him into a great guy. That's why he seems to have such a drastic character change. He was supposed to be the original bad guy/douche. Then when Steve became a good guy, they needed a new baddie, so they brought in the Billy character. But I did read that Billys storyline was originally supposed to be Steve's. Same with the Axel character in 'The Walking Dead' he was supposed to originally be a child killer, and kidnap and assault/murder Beth. You can see signs of that when you first meet him But the actor , Lew Temple begged them not to do that. So they changed it up and made Axel a good guy.

This was the best character pairing in the show. Steve got a lot more likeable once you got to see his softer side, and Dustin got a big brother figure which was sweet cause he was the only one without an older male figure to look up to. Mike and Lucas have dads, and Will has Jonathan, so it was really awesome to see this pairing. While I love the Hopper-Joyce, Steve-Robin, Dustin-Erica duos, the Steve-Dustin one takes the cake for me.
Am I the only one who was rooting for Steve in the first season? I mean, I knew he was a jerk, but from the first scene, you can tell that he’s supposed to develop and become a good guy. Which is what happened. But then Nancy and Jonathan got together in season 2, even though as far as I was concerned, she didn’t actually ever break up with Steve. It felt awkward, since Steve was just getting better and better in the meantime. Nancy and Jonathan are still a good pairing though, so it worked well enough. But then season 3 came along and firmly established Steve as the best character and Nancy and Jonathan as the least interesting subplot. Suddenly, the show decided to make the case that “too perfect” Nancy wasn’t good enough to be with this new Steve anyway, and suggested that he needed someone more nerdy. So because Steve wasn’t good enough for Nancy, but they still wanted him to get better without them getting together, they had to make him so good that she wouldn’t be good enough for him anymore.

Actually- they were gonna have him leave before the demogorgon fight between the 3 teens vs the demo in Joyce’s house. But instead of him running to his car and driving off, they had him come back and fight. The reason of this was because the directors loved Joe Keery so much, that they wanted him to have a more significant role.

Actually- they were gonna have him leave before the demogorgon fight between the 3 teens vs the demo in Joyce’s house. But instead of him running to his car and driving off, they had him come back and fight. The reason of this was because the directors loved Joe Keery so much, that they wanted him to have a more significant role.

I STILL LOVE STRANGER THINGS TO DEATH, BUT compared to s1 it changed so much. like the genre completely changed from horror/mystery to comedy/slice of life. Like its still good but it changed just wayy too much.
