    I found my 1st Polly at Walmart. I'd never seen an alocasia before and fell in love. She was the only 1 alive. She was in a tall, clear vase with decorative rocks or something and water. She was stunning. So, I eventually put her in a pot with good draining soil, then had to move up a size. Now, she has 1 leaf that the edges are curling up. ! leaf is rather ashey. She's still putting on new leaves, but, I don't know what's going on.

    I've grown both Alocasia and Colocasia outside in the heat and humidity here in southern Louisiana. With enough water and judicious fertilizer, sometimes they get gigantic, with leaves around a yard in diameter! During the wintertime, I just dig up the bulbs, dust them off, and store them for around 3-4 months during the wintertime when we get a lot of wet and cold, however in our weather, it seldom gets into the twenties. If it does for one night, it will rapidly warm up to at least the 40's the next day. If I were to just leave them in the ground I would risk rot. Some people I know do leave them, but I stay on the safe side. For some reason, our banana plants survive the winter just fine and regrow when the weather warms up in March. I've grown the common banana (Musa Paradisica) to heights of around 20 feet with a trunk of around a foot in diameter. Real giants! Then give them a little help with some tropical plant fertilizer and watch 'em go!

    I bought the Alocasia Polly 2 months ago and I guess it went into dormancy immediately and I thought I kill it so my husband was making fun of me and calling me a plant killer. Anyways I had some new growth a week ago. I think its a new leaf. so I'm super excited about that. But I have dead leaf left that I want to cut off, its not crispy and still has fluid in the steam and the leaf. Should I wait untill it gets crispy or cut it off now since I have new growth growing.

    I have an alocasia polly and when i purchased it, it already has 2 leaves and 1 new sprout. But after few days, one leaf started to get yellow and eventually died. The new leaf sprout has already fully unfurled but then the other leaf has already turned yellow. Now that its down to one leaf, and its not showing any new leaf growth, and the remaining leaf is showing signs of withering, I am worried. What can I do?

    • @TylerMossop
      @TylerMossop  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Flaire, yeah I’m sorry you’re having issues with your Alocasia! As I’ve learned, and shared in the video these plants are very sensitive to humidity, temperature and light (duration) to name a few. The yellowing on the leaves you’re experiencing could be from over watering. It’s hard to know exactly, happy to help more...you could always send me an email (which is on my page) with photos. If you live in the North East like me winter, less light and lower temps can trigger dormancy as well. Hope this is a good start, but need more info if you want to share! Ty
