Historically speaking Jesus was actually born earlier in the year not in December. The Christian denominations changed this fact in an attempt to convert Norse and pagan people.
Love this video! Wanted to add that if you're in the broom closet and you can't have a formal alter space, maybe you could offer to decorate the Christmas Dinner table instead. Elements like candles, holly, oak leaves, Yule log, and oranges could be incorporated into a center piece and put on top of a colored table cloth. It may only be temporary and is a little sneaky but could be a great way to celebrate!
The expression "broom closet" is so funny. I think most pagans will identify with this in some way. I have an Odin wall hanging that my mother will see as Santa Klaus when she comes to visit. LOL.
i love how conscious you are about people who are in the broom closet. i’m a very new witch with pretty firm christian parents so i can’t wait to be able to celebrate without being found out
I'm a Norse pagan and this is the first year I've been able to celebrate! thank you so much for all the information! Also make sure your animals can't get to your yule decorations. Holly, pine, water from a live tree, etc. can be dangerous for dogs and cats, so plan accordingly!

@Sky Taylor Also witches can heal both with medicine AND with magic... Any clearheaded witch will go to the doctor when they get sicker than a common cold because medicine works and we aren't so stupid as to avoid actual working medicine just because it's not magic. A nurse can also be a witch and support medicine healing with magical healing if they want to. Why are YOU here, if all you seem to do is spout hate and intolerance? Commenting on another comment that "being gay is wrong"? This negative attitude is going to attract negative energies to you, sister. For your own sake it would be best if you stop cursing and insulting people, because it will come back to you.
I like hearing about Yule because there are so many Christmas traditions that literally having nothing to do with the Feast of the Nativity (such as hanging mistletoe toe or decorating an evergreen tree), but you know they come from somewhere and have some kind of meaning.
We always celebrated the solstice when I was a kid by decorating an outdoor tree with orange slices&cloves, popcorn strands, and peanut butter covered pinecones. As it was the longest night of the year, we left these treats out for the animals. My mother was deeply religious so it tickles me now to see how much of our traditions were rooted outside of christianity. I am excited to continue our solstice treats with my own family and add a few more! Thanks for creating this video!

For witches that don’t follow the Euro-Centric wheel, you should look into local myths and connect to your own environment and magic through that way :) there’s so many local legends, that’s really what traditional witchcraft is all about. Observing the folklore of your region.
Thank you to everyone celebrating these holidays even though they aren’t Wiccan your positive intentions and acceptance mean so much and add so much good energy to these holidays!! 😊🥰
Although I am blessed to be able to practice openly, I love the way you always include ways that those in the broom closet can still celebrate and practice their craft and beliefs. Really useful and thoughtful for anyone who might otherwise feel isolated 💚🧙🏻♀️
I live in a half Christian, half Wiccan house so we have to balance out what we’re doing all the time with celebrations, lucky Yule is the easiest for us cause we can still decorate a tree, make food, but then we also have things like the gifts which we still do, the half Christian side tho does take into consideration about my beliefs and even though I still get gifts they are usually money at most or just random small nature item they found.

We collect logs and tree limbs from the woods behind our house and make a big Yule log and small tea light candle holders for the altar and I put dry herbs in clear globe ornaments that serve as individual spells. You can scratch your intentions into the side of a candle or dress it with oils. We also make winter solstice incense together and put our intentions into them, this can be done as a potpourri blend as well. Cinnamon brooms can be used as a magical besom. The spices and herbs you use for your feast can be imbued with magical intentions or blessed ahead of time on your altar. We decorate the trees outside with bird seed pine cones, ornaments, orange and apple slices and cranberry and popcorn garland, this is one of our offerings. Even the type of wood you burn in a fireplace has their own energy ( we also throw the tea light holders we made into the fire) There are so many creative ways to celebrate 😁
Just added garnet to my alter without realizing it was related to yule. Great video. Since my bf and i are now able to celebrate Yule. Our yule log is a homemade candle holder decorated with holly and other seasonal goodies. The candles are safe in a glass candle holders. We can't burn anything in the apartment but candles don't set off fire alarms. If anyone is interested in this idea. Simply get a log and make sure it's a flat or anchored to a base. Carve out 3 holes the size of your glass candle holders. Decorate with items of the season and set on the table during your yule feast. Light the candles and enjoy. Please be careful with power tools and use candle holders!
Thank you so much for including ideas for those in the broom closet. I've recently changed my path. Unfortunately, I am not able to be open about it because of some family members.
We have a Yule log that we use every year but we also place small wooden tea light candle holders that we make every year (and put our intentions into ) on our altar. We burn the small candle holders instead of our beloved log and save the ashes. I put some in black salt and some into incense to use as needed. I just got these clear ornaments from the dollar general that you can open up and put things in. I knew I wanted to do something with them for Yule, but I wasn't sure! But now I am! I didn't know about "The Witches Bulbs/Balls" that you mentioned. That's exactly what I'll do with them! Thank you dear!!!
Thank you so much for this video!! I have always leaned towards Paganism and Yule rather than Christmas, and have been unknowingly practicing many Yule or solstice related rituals for a few years now. Now I can do them with intention and affirmation :)
Red is the color for the Holly King, Green is the color for the Oak King, White is the color for Purity and Hope of New Light, Silver is the color of the Moon, and Gold is the color for the Sun in some traditions for Yule 🎄.
Thank you for this very informative video. Yours is the first that pops up on youtube for Yuletide. I am I guess as you say a Noob and in the Witches closet. The past few years I have been getting more and more in touch with nature and with Older traditions that make more sense to me as I get older my self. Again appreciate the info, it was well laid out and not rushed and the links are excellent.
2021, I am here, celebrating my first Yule as a solo practitioner. (Will still be going to local public ritual for Yule, but also doing my own thing :D ) Thank you so much for this video!!
Great video full of information of ideas on how to celebrate yule, variations if you are in the broom closet and similarities to more religious rites. Thank you for taking the time to share this one!
I just came across your Channel. Been practicing for a few years now, but it's always nice to hear fresh perspectives and new ideas. I hope you do one for every Sabot! I love herb videos, Crystal videos, stuff like that! Also, since I'm in Canada I would love to see tours of different places around you with the Pagan vibe💜🕯️🔮
I personally see Yule as a more appropriate “Witches New Year” on the wheel, so I adjust my celebrations for that accordingly. And of course telling ghost stories, since Yule traditionally was also a time for spirits to be about.
Been a heathen/ pagan for about 10 years now, never practiced Yule. This will be the first year. Your given me plenty of ideas, very excited to see Dec 21 so I can start. Have a early happy Yule everyone and travel well on your path.... Frostproof, FL.
Oh my goodness! I didn’t realize that string lights represented candles on a tree! I knew the other parts, but for some reason it didn’t resonate the “candlelight” 😂
THANK YOU I've been meaning to find a way of celebrating Yule. I can cram it in the day. I am headed to a party and to my nana's for present opening. I can do this before I need to go there today. I can go the woods get a small tree, decorate it with some stuff I have, wear some colored makeup and clothing, and put the presents under the small tree. TRULY thank you. I've always wanted a more Pagan celebration
I’ve been practicing for about 20 years as a witch and u are one of the only TH-cam witches I will watch. The others usually make me cringe. Lol! Thank u so much for putting out proper information on the craft. I love that I learn something new each time I watch your channel because we are never done learning :) I’m a hoodoo practitioner and therefor use the Bible but I do follow a lot of these traditions.
16:29 was watching on 2x speed late in the night/very early yule morning (southern hemisphere) and thought you said "throwing your babies into". Took me a second to realise you were not recommending we yeet newborns into a yule fire to celebrate.
Thank you for a lovely refresher. I’ve been a practicing witch for near on 20yrs. Always good to watch a video like this as a stripped down, basic, wonderful reminder of the Season. I miss meeting with Others to Welcome the Sun Rising with drums and noise makers. Fellowship with hot drinks and goodwill. Moving sucks.
I’m a Wiccan priest and found your information exactly how it should be, no airs or graces. Nothing over the top, it’s the thought you put in to it and the energy. Don’t usually like TH-cam videos on Witchcraft as many are totally wrong or there just fluffy the vampire followers 😂 but yours is what I would call an eclectic traditional. Great video and I have subscribed 🙏⭐️
Since we hunt on our farm, we usually serve wild turkey or deer for the holiday dinner. We have plenty of root veggies and fruits (old varieties of pears and apples) in the cellar, nuts harvested, etc. I love to bake breads and sweets, and we have a permanent herb garden and bitter greens patch. We also have a bonfire we gather around at sunset, using firewood from the 7 sacred trees, and stick upon which we place our prayers and thanks and toss into the fire. After the ceremony, we eat the dinner and celebrate the season and the coming year.
Yea !, First thing I did this morning, purchased a piece of garment, had yellow red and green on it, even has the word cheer, for yule tide cheer. So I was spot on, and not one recognized that. Yet as you said, doesn't matter to anyone else, love ya, keep it coming sweet covin cutie !!!!
At home, we celebrate both. I'm what some would call a Christopagan. I went back to having 2 trees: one Yule tree and the Christmas tree. My Yule tree has ornaments with the traditional colors: evergreen, red, and gold for the Sun and the God. I also added white ornaments to represent winter snow and silver for the Goddess and the Moon. Over the house we have garlands of ivy and holly (not natural, unfortunately). I also love poinsettias and I want to find a realistic looking mistletoe. We can't have the natural kind because we have kitties and they think houseplants are salad. BLESSINGS TO ALL!
Im an eclectic pagan who follows the germanic calendar so its easiest for me to celebrate the wheel of the year. This video was super helpful in helping me come up with ideas for yule!
Thank you HeathWitch!! Your video was very informative and I really enjoyed the information. I haven't been able to find much time to devote to my practice, especially since i'm mostly in the closet. This year I woke up before dawn and lit a large yellow pillar candle I carved sun sigils into along with small red, green, and white taper candles. I incorporated some pine cones and evergreen! I'm looking forward to learning more!!!
Thanks for sharing! I’m not Christian but would love to celebrate nature and the winter season! I love seeing plain Christmas trees with no ornaments, just lights.
Love this video! Would also like to point out that not only is it not a good idea to put candles on your Christmas/Yule tree but that real ones tend to be coated to stop the needles falling off straight away (this stuff is highly flammable). Cut to a few years ago putting a cut up Yule tree on an indoor fire (because waste not) & nearly setting the chimney on fire! 🙈 So yea don't reuse it as fire wood. In England lots of recycling centres have a system after Christmas where they will recycle the wood (usually as chippings) or if you want a huge bonfire use it outside!
Fully agree, hence my recommendation for fake candle lights. I would never trust real candles anywhere near a tree, it seems like such a terrible idea and fire safety should always be used and thank you so much for the information I didn't know they had those x
I haven't been able to celebrate Yule in years due to some personal reasons, and this year I'm planning to celebrate it again! My friends have even agreed to (safely because of covid) celebrate it with me and learn about paganism! I'm really excited! I've been raised in a traditional Celtic Pagan family, and I used to celebrate Yule yearly, so this year I'm planning to celebrate it with a mixture of what I know from the Yule celebrations I used to attend and a bit of my own. We don't have a Yule log, but we're going to ask the local Christmas tree patch if they have any spare logs for us to use, especially since we're friends with the owner. The nearby park has a large fire pit and considering this will be at night won't be very crowded, if anybody is there at all, so we're probably gonna do it there. We're going to put wishes into witches knots and hang them on the tree (I used to make the witches knot then put the knot on a burning candle then put the candle on the tree but we probably won't do that this year), dance, sing, then have a Yule log cake and some warm apple cider after starting to burn the Yule log, or rather, our Yule log replacement. I've never done this with friends outside of my Papa's coven before, so I'm really excited, and I'm really happy that they want to celebrate this with me and learn about it. I didn't know that there was Yule music! I should've heh, but I didn't. Thank you for making this video! -Wiccan/Traditional Celtic/Greek Witch
I know i'm late but i'm from switzerland and the thing with actual burning candles on the three is still very popular here. Of course you have to be very careful with them, but i'm 25y and never saw a Christmas tree catch on fire!! Hope you all have a great yule 🎄
Ah nice; I'm not of any religious affiliation, though I do like learning about beliefs and traditions, Certainly I've heard the Christian explanations of the Xmas tree topper, but the explanation of having a star on top of the tree to represent the sun...which is a star... makes so much more sense.
Thank you this helped me so much im just starting off and I. Very interested in wicca and new about yule but not alot so this was a great video so thank you x

Major takeaway from this video: Christians stole Yule, so just pretend you’re celebrating Christmas early.
Does it ever offended the Pagan/Wiccan community about the Christians literally stomping on their sacred days, and appropriating their traditions?

I love this, I’m a baby witch and I’m doing a lot of research since it’s my first Yule celebration I’ve ever done and this was really helpful, thanks
I’m so exited! This is my first Yule!!!!
yay me to!
2021, I am here, celebrating my first Yule as a solo practitioner. (Will still be going to local public ritual for Yule, but also doing my own thing :D ) Thank you so much for this video!!
Same! Except for the local thing lol
Hearth, I appreciate all of your videos so much. Thank you for all that you do 🖤
I personally see Yule as a more appropriate “Witches New Year” on the wheel, so I adjust my celebrations for that accordingly. And of course telling ghost stories, since Yule traditionally was also a time for spirits to be about.
Samhain in October is more the witches new year
Been a heathen/ pagan for about 10 years now, never practiced Yule. This will be the first year. Your given me plenty of ideas, very excited to see Dec 21 so I can start.
Have a early happy Yule everyone and travel well on your path.... Frostproof, FL.
Watching this Video has become a Yule tradition now
My latvian family still puts candles in the pine tree. It's goregeous
How do you do it with out it burning down
What a fantastic video! Lots of Information and I love how you give so many options for each thing mentioned.
I’ve only watched the first 30 seconds but I’m subscribed
Me too!
Oh my goodness! I didn’t realize that string lights represented candles on a tree! I knew the other parts, but for some reason it didn’t resonate the “candlelight” 😂
I'm just starting out and I love this!! the Persians also celebrate the winter solstice and it's called Yalda...very similar(?)
As someone who's in the broom closet and allergic to oranges, this is going to be a challenge.
subsitute it with a apple?
WAIT I LOVE YOUR VIDEOS! LOVE YOU OMGGGGG! I DIDN'T KNOW YOU WERE PAGAN NURODIVERGENT AND NOT CIS! THIS MAKES ME SO HAPPY!
This my first yule so thanks for the advice
I'm so impressed with your videos 💕 Thank you Blessings too u 💕💕 💕
I’ve been practicing for about 20 years as a witch and u are one of the only TH-cam witches I will watch. The others usually make me cringe. Lol! Thank u so much for putting out proper information on the craft. I love that I learn something new each time I watch your channel because we are never done learning :) I’m a hoodoo practitioner and therefor use the Bible but I do follow a lot of these traditions.
There are a few yule videos but I think this is one of the best ones I've seen on TH-cam. Thank you and blessed be
So so so glad you have made one of these! I really respect you and have always appreciated your content.
This video was so informational!! It will be my first year celebrating yule and this helped me so much!! Thank you!!!
I am watching this for the first time in 2019. We are just 4 days from yule. Thank you so much.
Thank you for all the wonderful information on Yule!! Definitely subscribing!!
I love how informative your segments are! Thank you!
Im an eclectic pagan who follows the germanic calendar so its easiest for me to celebrate the wheel of the year. This video was super helpful in helping me come up with ideas for yule!
When i tell you i lost it when she said "in the broom closet or out of the broom closet" ☠️☠️ Sent me to a New galaxy
Great video! You have a wealth of knowledge. Thank you for all the good ideas!
Thank you for making these for us new witches!! It’s so useful 🤗💛
@@HearthWitch ❤ Your video is full of really nice ideas & recommendations! Some that I will be sure to try! Xx
Fantastic video!!!
Well done. Straight forward. Not a bunch of blather beforehand. Informative!
Subscribed!!! Blessed be.
I haven't been able to celebrate Yule in years due to some personal reasons, and this year I'm planning to celebrate it again! My friends have even agreed to (safely because of covid) celebrate it with me and learn about paganism! I'm really excited!
I've been raised in a traditional Celtic Pagan family, and I used to celebrate Yule yearly, so this year I'm planning to celebrate it with a mixture
of what I know from the Yule celebrations I used to attend and a bit of my own.
Very informative video I'm interested in the wiccan celebrations and your content helps a lot 😊
Just watching this now but I love it! I love all of your videos you give so much great knowledge in a welcoming friendly way. Thank you so much!
I know i'm late but i'm from switzerland and the thing with actual burning candles on the three is still very popular here. Of course you have to be very careful with them, but i'm 25y and never saw a Christmas tree catch on fire!! Hope you all have a great yule 🎄
You can use a cast iron pan to burn in.
Hello there!
Beauttiful video!
I often add the silver in my altar. This colour also represents the Yule energy to me.
i misheard bay leaves as babies and was quite concerned when you suggested throwing them into the fire
Your aura is visible, the Goddess is strong with you and blessed be this yuletide season.
My first Yule was last year I half assed it it was last minute I’m bringing it this year thank you for helping me understand
Best video I've seen this year! Thanks so much for this. I subscribed within the 1st few minutes.
Thanks for the video Hearth. The sabbat videos are really helpful and I have put some of the suggestions to use already.
I just loved this thank you so much for the info! I am new to all this stuff and find it really amazing 😍
This year will be my first time celebrating Yule/Winter Solstice and I can’t wait, my mum likes the idea of it too so I won’t be alone :)
Ah nice; I'm not of any religious affiliation, though I do like learning about beliefs and traditions, Certainly I've heard the Christian explanations of the Xmas tree topper, but the explanation of having a star on top of the tree to represent the sun...which is a star... makes so much more sense.
ok i hope it's not just me who thinks the term 'broom closet' is absolutely appropriate! whoever came up with that is a genius.
Great video! Thanks for all the tips!! Definitely be trying some of these!
Thank you I cant wait to do these lovely things you suggested.
Thank you this helped me so much im just starting off and I. Very interested in wicca and new about yule but not alot so this was a great video so thank you x
