Inviting someone form the audience to play drums on a Metallica show is actually quite brilliant. At the best case scenario, the audience member gives a good show and at worst the audience member is better than Lars.
It wouldn't be worst case if they found a better drummer from the audience, they'd finally have a decent drummer. Lars has lost a few steps since ...And Justice.

I explained to you why that happened, and it's because he was nervous. Lars is one of the most important and influential drummers in the history of metal, yes, we all know that, he just tried to show his respect to that boy, who at 13 years old has had the balls to play with Metallica. Obviously to say that he is better than Lars is to go too far, that now he doesn't play like in the 80s doesn't mean he doesn't know how to play, but I take it more as a compliment to the boy.
