My dad sold out right after I got married, I watched my family farm sell, broke my heart I planned to farm there, but my dad wanted out of debt, tough year 1985 , I'm now farming 150acres
It breaks my heart to see generational dairy farms fall. I literally cannot stand corporate farming but alas, this is the reality. My condolences to you, Kip and family. 💔💔🙏🙏🙏🙏
I live an hour from that farm and what I would do to be able to use that land and infrastructure. Money nowadays though its just not possible. Millions I suspect.
Your work ethic should be taught in school to every young child. As a retired electrician it sends chills down my back when I see your wiring methods. Just because it works doesn’t mean it’s safe. Your open wire and general use disconnects are a disaster in the making. Always use outdoor rough service equipment, maybe even stainless and explosion proof for real safety. Every wire needs to be in conduit too. Work safe , those kids need you.
Neighbor down the street cut a hole in his harvestore, put a drying system in the bottom and is using it as grain silo/dryer. They quit doing dairy years ago, but now have a use again for the silo.
Harvestores probably bankrupted that dairy farm. My neighbor who used to milk has a 20x90. He said there was very few years they didn't spend at least $5000 for repairs to that Harvestore. Many of them were put up in the late 70s. Most sit empty now. Good feed quality, but slow and unreliable.
I think low milk prices is what bankrupt's dairy farms. My grandfather had one of those silos and did maintenance to it over the years and had very little trouble with it. An ounce of prevention is a pound of cure.
Thanks for the video Kip, it breaks my heart when I see Farms go out of business dairy or otherwise. It’s a shame to see everything deteriorate when the buildings are not being used.
Come on kip - you guys need to invest in a bunch of cow brushes - your cows are going mad all bored and no one around to scratch their spots - get either manual ones or the ones who spins when the cows hit them - your cows will love them and will stop violating your gates - happy cows gives lots of milk
I had that same kinda silo set up . Now that I no longer milk it still makes me itch watching you up in the silo so right about keeping the cone just right .
Great Video as always Kip so sad to see family dairy go out I think a smaller family operation that can really watch an care for there animals an crops can put a better product on our tables you guys do it the best an keep the foot on the gas as dad says ! That cemetery that you drove by is where my grand parents are it is a peaceful place to go an remember them thanks again to all of you for what your doing
A bummer seeing those other farms shutting down, nice farms too. That one was a big operation with all those Harvestore silos and several barns. Seeing you up in your silo letting the chute down brings back memories for me.
A guy told me once that those blue harvestors is a sign of bankruptcy. Big dairy down the road when I was a kid had them. They went bankrupt. Picked up an old chopper for a friend last year same thing. No longer farming big blue silos. Must be something to it. Now that farm that went under when I was a kid is raising hiefers. They had the unloader rebuilt in one silo. I belive he told me 18 to 20k or something crazy with new airbags installed.
So true about keeping the gas pedal down. Dairy farms around where I live are being sold to farmers from Southern Ontario. Sad to see them sell after generations of such hard work, but at least the barns will be full for now. Thanks for the video.
Harvestore silos are higher maintenance than your 6 I had 2 growing up absolutely hated them always pulling the chain out especially when you have to long arm them
Wow! You have a great way of presenting so much content in each episode. So much I’d like to comment, but I’ll refrain. 😂 Seeing the baby in the opening and closing was great, especially since he napped during the previous couple vids. 😎 I get a kick out of listening to you talk to the cows. Speaking of cows, if curiosity killed the cat…What did the very curious, exploring cows suffer? 🤔 Looking forward to your next video! 🏍🇺🇸🎒
There were two motors with gear boxes underneath the feeder. On the output shaft there was a wheel with hard rubber on the outside. It rode against mesh welded to the underside of the feeder. The support for the feeder had rollers that carried it. It worked good for 40 or 50 cows.
Yup, when there's a thaw time to clean pens get them bedded good otherwise it is a sloppy mess. Once that's done chop silos and grind several batches of feed. Warm days are busy days. It is so sad to see nice farms going to the wayside. We may be the same by the next generation. So hard to know how much to upgrade. Always feel like we have to stay in a holding pattern. Just never sure how much to invest.
Another great video. Your baby boy is growing fast! Congrats to the team on the win and good luck with the next competition. Glad you got some things from the auction. Seeing that farm sitting there makes me sad. I hope someone buys it and starts it up again. I hope a developer doesn't buy it, slice it up and make townhouses out of it. Anyways GOD Bless you and your family.
Kipp does the plow on the belt conveyor change from side to side on its own ? I see you flip it some times. Use to milk years ago, land just got to valuable $$$. Thanks KIPP so much take care.
hate to see the end of a farming/milking situation...brings a tug at the heart knowing, another farm going away...hope the slack is picked up by someone
You must have the richest soil in the county with all that cow poop going on at every day. Lol. Kind of sad to see in the dairies empty that was a beautiful farm at one time... Generation now doesn't want anything to do with stuff like that ....sad.. God bless you
I like your videos, but get so tired of so many people calling the boys "the big man"... He's a little boy. Let him be that. He'll grow up too fast anyway. Don't rob him of his childhood.
Yep sad part about dairying all the small guys r getting ate up by the big guys left and right because they can't make anymore.... I wish the US would get on board with a quota system to make it more of a even playing field for everybody to milk cow but at this rate and how these prices r the family dairy farm will b a thing of the past sooner than later.
@@jaybernieschoep3491 I worked weekends in Agropur in Weyauwega WI. I believe it completely. Nice clean cows ! We no longer milk. I just do a few for beef.I bed heavy and often and have a hard time keeping my cattle that clean !

The dairy I worked on when I was a kid had one 20×60 silo with a Lazy Suzanne feeder.
Those are neat never saw one on person

Kip, do you know who I could contact about renting their barns? Have feeder cattle needing a barn.
Those farms are sad to see go, to bad the family didn't offer it up to raise beef cattle in for a young guy to start out in.
Kip you and Grant watch the Super Bowel last night?
Yeah 👍👍

was that a poth farm
I think so
If it's only 15 minutes away why don't you invest and start another dairy

Not here, we all left and then decided to come back. Forcing anything usually doesn’t work
