  • Strange Rock Structures discovered by Treasure Hunters at 140 year old Mining town!
    This week Casey and I head out to "Little Italy' in Bibb County Alabama to search for lost history and relics. Along the way we do some Magnet Fishing and antique bottle hunting. The discovery of this history comes as no surprise as the backwoods of Alabama are loaded with abandoned mines and ghost towns!

    I hope support can be found to preserve Alabama's Little Italy for posterity.
    This is the best hike I've ever taken from my comfy chair sipping my morning coffee!

    "In the mid-1880s, the first immigrants arrived in Blocton, Alabama. Some were Slavic, others Polish, but the majority were Italians. Many came from villages in the hills above Bologna, south of Florence, and from the Italian colony on the island of Corsica. Employed as shepherds, farmers, or gardeners in their native land, they had been lured to Alabama by coal-mining company recruiters looking for cheap labor, and later, by letters from relatives and friends who had preceded them to the Bibb County hills. Unable to speak English, these immigrants met with problems communicating. Largely Roman Catholic, they faced religious intolerance from their Protestant neighbors. Strangers in a strange land, they set up their own community in Blocton. It was known as Little Italy." - Rhoda Coleman Ellison

    The famous Country harmony duo the Louvin Brothers are from N. AL and their accordion player was Italian. Southern Italy was full of mines, especially Sulphur mines, which were very dangerous. Mining coal in the U.S. was actually a step up for them. Great post.

    Interesting video. Those rock walls are so well built. My mother's family were Italian immigrants and lived in New Haven Ct. There were many Italians from many of the different principalities of Italy. Each group had their own neighborhood, church, stores, bakery, etc. They each kept to themselves. My mother didn't go to the closest church to where she lived because it wasn't "their" church. When I was a kid, things were not so separated. It was cool because the different neighborhood bakeries would have different kinds of bread and pastries. The pizza was different from neighborhood to neighborhood. We grew up calling them pies not pizza. Even the kind of olives you could get would be different.

    The discovery of strange rock structures by treasure hunters at a 140-year-old mining town is intriguing. It could hint at historical significance, geological anomalies, or even archaeological findings. Further investigation by experts would likely shed light on the origins and significance of these structures.

    I was wishing I was with y’all until you started talking about how it was hot. I used to love exploring the woods especially when there used to be old houses or barns in the area. Found an old milking barn when I was out hunting with my dad and found old milk bottles. I researched(asked around,no google back then) about the dairy and it turned out to still be running, just in a different county. The dairy still ran by the same family.

    Seeing my Mama was born n raised in Alabama n have a big connection to this state. She was born in Wilsonville Ala. moved on to Columbiana where much of the family lived. I’m not familiar of this town you mentioned but I sure was interested in the history of it. I really enjoyed this video n where you n Casey were. I had no idea that the Italian’s migrated to Alabama. Boy, did I learn something good today. I wouldn’t mind seeing more videos like this especially if you give a little history about it.
    Sure am happy you found a few artifacts.

    I feel like so much history is lost soon after it goes out of use because so much that is from just 20 years before because it is old enough to not of use. And so many one industry towns town fade away within couple years after it closes. Like a small town grows up around a mine then dies soon after it closes, taking all those dreams with it.

  • @christopherprince3250

    It doesn't look like they would hold enough water for a steam engine. Even the small ones used hundreds of gallons of water.

  • @daytondigger1
    @daytondigger1 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I would think the stone structures were not for the locomotives. They required a large quantity of water fed from above. I would have probed them. Some sort if cistern or maybe even privy. Vents, possible, but probably not so likely. A probe would be my best suggestion.
