  • Russian forces have reportedly captured an intact guidance system from a long-range US-made ATACMS missile. According to Russia’s RIA state news agency, Russians are now studying the American military technology behind the missile. A video released by RIA showed an unidentified weapons expert examining what he said was a guidance system from a down ATACMS. The expert said that the unit includes three-ring laser gyroscopes and a GPS module. He also showed labels on the back of the missile's GPS guidance system which indicate it originated in a US Army store in Alabama. Watch the video to find out more.

Russia had already downed some ATACMS and beefed-up EW tracing surveys just as it did for SCALP/SS cruise missiles.
It was known (from leaks?) that the missiles used 3 separate guidance/course systems and it became evident that final targeting could be inertial by signal. If the final attack phase is by signal using "heavy drones", this points to US RQ ones and most likely the RQ21A 'Blackjack' which had been rejected by the US Marines as being unreliable in landing on carriers with arrest hooking.
However, Grumman made many of these so there is 'spare' stock an limited usefulness. Whereas Global Hawk drones cost $10m each and do not behave well at lower altitudes, the RQ21A mixes high altitude with engine cut dropping then re-ignition but this might be programmed and not a precise maneuver. But, from low level the drone could be used to guide such as ATACMS by final signal then climb away to be used again if it can land on level ground. Attrition of the drones is not an issue when they are plentiful at present.
Accordingly, Russia will quickly answer the signaling questions and apply EW or kinetic defenses -- giving many choices.
If US drones are being used operationally beyond mere spying it will open to Russia and other Black Sea states with the requisite arms to target every drone legally because those used so far lack the equipment to detect other flying objects nearby and the whole area is a busy civil aviation area. Needless to say, spy UAVs do have transponders.
If near earth orbit spy satellites are being used to signal activation of armament on the surface then many laws are broken at once. Russia, Belarus, Turkey and some CIS states are equipped with missiles able to destroy such satellites if required. It is relatively lo tech.

    From 🇺🇸
I work for a very large weapons manufacturer.
Technically it’s not a “New” product but it is absolutely a product that is still in service and will be for another 8 years.
reverse engineering older products tell you a lot about how new products would eventually develop and many of the systems carry over. It’s like how the F22 developed into the F35. You’d require an extremely advanced RND to understand the ARA that is the ATAK
I’m from America and I only blame Biden for sending weapons systems to foreign countries with light training and for launching them at a country that should be our ally not an enemy. There is not country more like the USA than Russia. You can’t get mad or blame Russia for picking up a rocket Ukraine shot into their territory. I personally know that if the ATAC was so outdated they would not use it inside Ukraine. The democrats of the United States are stimulating the economy through weapons manufacturing and they’re supposedly weakening an “enemy” that is actually a friend while they test out different weapons systems at the cost of Ukraines youth. This is why we nearly took the capital in 2021 and this is why we will get our country back and stop the flow of arms in 2025 so no more Russians or Ukrainians will die. Too much Russian blood has been spilt to even consider not letting Russia Keep Crimea and its current occupied territory that is Russian Speaking.
NATO has one mission and that was to stop Soviet communism. Russia is not the Soviet Union. The Soviet Union collapsed. disban NATO it only provoked the world. Russia sold us Alaska for $7,000,000, which is worth $500 billion. Russia is the second largest ethnic group in the US with more that 3 million Russian/USA citizens. Not refugees but actually went through the system. This horde of trespassers doesn’t count hence the term illigeal aliens. China has done a lot of good things around the world but it was discovered that they actually somehow have more debt than the us and I’m a huge advocate for peace and I’m in the draft system to be deployed but I do believe the government of China will eventually use war to recover its economy. It’s learning from the United States.
