Our ancestors have used cooking vessels made of Iron, Brass, Copper, vessels made of mixed metals, clay pots, Stone based pots, and vessels.
These Natural Maa Kal pots are made from soapstone, a naturally occurring soft stone. It is a hand-carved soapstone product, Crafted by rural village Artisans/ Sculptors. They have been making these stonewares for generations and decades. Every inch of these products is handcrafted, so the dimensions may not be identical and there may be minor variations.
These are purely natural, Toxin-free cookware unlike the Chemical coated modern utensils. They are very thick and sturdy as you can see. It is a heavy vessel that retains heat for a long time which avoids reheating
One of the main reasons how they achieved keeping foods fresh for longer times is by using the rite vessels to cook and store. and earthenware Stone pots were one of the most widely used cooking vessels. It is because,
Reason #1: Food remains fresh for a long time
Stone pots retain heat for a long time even after the flame is stopped, so the food remains warm and fresh. and so no need for additional heating is often required and no need to stuff the food in your freezer or refrigerator.
Reason #2: Tastes even better Food cooked in the stone pots taste outstanding because they are chemical-free, have no extra coating etc. and hence stone pots do not alter or change the natural flavour of the ingredients and retain the original aroma and taste of the food.
Reason #3: Retaining antioxidants and nutrients intact
Stone pots, Heat is evenly distributed and applied and hence it retains healthy antioxidants of the food which are used to counteract the deterioration of stored food. and Heat is steadily dispersed into the utensil and uniformly transferred into food items, so nutrients of the food are preserved whereas it is destroyed in modern cooking utensils.
Since the retention of the Antioxidant levels is high, no wonder you can keep the food for a long time in the same stoneware, No more worries about stuffing the food in your freezer.
    Reason #4: Neautralises pH
Kalchattis neutralises the pH balance of acidic food items and thus enhances their nutritional value
    How to use and maintain
    1) Stone pots can be used on regular gas burner cooktops/stove and on wood fires as well as in traditional methods.. and also because the base is flat, this can also be used on electric cooktops, another good news is that you can use this in Microwave as well.
    2) start with a medium/high flame, and then once the pot has observed enough heat, keep the flame on low until you finish the cooking. Do not heat an empty pot. Overheating the pot may lead to cracks so it's better to maintain low medium flame while cooking. Do not let food dry out completely while cooking, either add oil or water according to the dish you make The main speciality of this is cooking slowly and evenly, you can switch off the flame 5 mins before the final dish is done as it will continue to cook even after the flame is switched off(at least for 5 mins).
    Maintenance
All our stone products come fully seasoned in traditional methods. It takes up to 2 weeks to season a pot. Seasoning is done with a mixture of castor oil and turmeric powder. The mix is applied to the pot throughout the inside and out. and left as it is for a few days. Then fill it with rice starch water till the neck, cook the rice, throw it away, wash it and then repeat the castor oil+turmeric paste application and repeat rice starch water a few times. For best results, this requires a few cycles of the above method and needs patience and time. This is one of the reasons why seasoned stone pots are a bit expensive.
Even though the pot is fully seasoned, I recommend washing it cleanly with hot or warm water, to make sure no oil that is used for seasoning remains. Boil rice a few times and make sure you don't get an oily or turmeric smell. Repeat this process until you don't feel seasoning material flavour in the food you prepare.
Wash it with hot water. wait for it to cool down for a while then soak in water and then wash.
Wipe it completely with a dry cloth or paper towels.
Apply oil on the surface - it is not mandatory but better.
DO NOT use soaps or chemical liquids
