I used the curd pot for storing salt. The salt started melting. So better to use for storing other things. Very nice product. I bought lamps made from soapstone. They were really lovely.
You can continue to use the curd pot for salt storing. Once the full pot has become wet the melting process will stop. This is way only my grandmother season the kalchatti. ( Fill with Kal uppu, once the process is over, she will discard the salt, will not use for cooking purpose.) It will take 15 to 20 days according to the size. But worth doing.

First boil water in used kalchatti and throw it Then you can clean with salt or rice flour if required

As far as I know soapstone is not recommended for dosa taws as there are chances of cracking due to dry heat
