That’s beautiful…I have the 2020 t120 and would love to convert it to belt drive…I’m not handy though, like you are. Still have my 2007vstar 1300 with belt drive that I still ride. I will be ordering a dart windscreen.
It's easy to say it, but it wasn't that hard. I took my time undid things carefully and did them back up the same. The V star would go nicely too! Ride safe.
Interesting. I'll bet it's much quieter and yes no lube getting all over the rim. Sounds like a relatively easy transformation as long as you have the right parts kit. I've had a shaft drive on my VMAX but never ridden a belt drive. Mine came with a slightly bigger wind screen than yours, but I pulled it and put a small one like I had on the VMAX. Big one was a bit too much. Thank you for the look see,✌️
Hey Mate you did a great job of keeping the engine case or sprocket cover original, I checked out the website and the cover they offer is ugly. Great work Mate. Kiwis are good at things like that hey. 2 thumbs up brother
I think the 865cc Bonnie series requires their cover, which I agree is not a good match at all for the original. The liquid cooled ones can use the original cover. Thanks for the comment!
Hi Bob , now that you’ve had the belt conversation for over a year, are you still happy with it, it’s something I’m looking at for my speed twin, I know it’s not a cheap conversion but I will be keeping this bike long term, thanks Mike 👍
Hi Mike, it's been on for getting on for two years and it's great. The bike's just ticked over 5k (ks) with it on, maybe more, the bike's done 9k, and it's still in mint cond. No adjustment, clean, quiet, smooth and looks like it belongs. I've done a few bike group rides and big bike gatherings and you wouldn't know. I it's not cheap but nothing is, any significant mod costs but I factored this in right at the time I bought the bike so want put off by that. Hope yours goes well!
Both upper and lower parts are Harley Sportster. The metal one I took apart on the spot welds and made the round look and fit of the Triumph. The lower one was trimmed to suit and mounted to a bracket I made and had powdered coated with the top part. Maybe I should do video oh that!
Thanks of a great Video! Wondering if there was any noticeable loss in power with the belt conversion? Also when I clicked on the link provided below for the belt guard it wasn't working. Can you tell me where I may find a guard for the belt?
Hi, no loss of power or difference to the drive over a chain, except buttery smoothness! Sorry about the link, try this: www.freespiritsparts.com/en/product/belt-guard-for-triumph-street-twin-cup-scrambler-bonneville-t100-t120-2016-up/ or just look up freespiritsparts.com and search your model. I made mine as the one I got didn't seem to cover things enough.
Greetings from across the pond. According to the experts I've spoken with and the videos I've seen on youtube chain drive actually puts more power directly to the ground than a belt. My guess is, that it's probably that the power difference is not discernable to the neophyte. My primary interest in getting a belt is the fact that it's far less maintenance! Thanks for you prompt replies. Cheers and keep the rubber side up!!
Very nice video, I have a question, how much km or miles is the belt guaranteed to go? I know from my Harley Roadster 2016 it that was more than 100k miles. I wish to by the new Bonneville and fit the same belt drive kit.
I don't know that Free Spirits states an expected distance as there are too many variables. I too have had many Harleys and only changed 1 belt on my Sportster Roadster when the belt got damaged with a stone! Your 100k miles is huge on one belt, well done!
Thanks for the video…. I saw this on the bobber where they had to cut the frame to feed the belt. Did you have to cut the frame? I have been thinking of this for the bobber when I eventually get lucky enough to own…..
This is amazing, thanks for posting. Do you find any difference in the way the bike rides at all? I’ve been dreaming of getting a t120 for a long time and now I’m collecting a 2017 black on Saturday and this mod seems a game changer in terms of maintenance. Just so clean! Cheers from the UK and happy riding 👍
Probably only quieter without the chain noise, but the lack of weekly fettling with cleaning, adjustments and oiling is very good! Enjoy your new bike!
Thanks for the vid. Do you take your T120 on dirt/gravel at all? If so, have you noticed a performance reduction with the switch to this belt? Have you shopped for a spare belt? Looks like the P/N is Gates 530056, and they want EUR200+. Ouch.
All on road with this bike. If I was to do any gravel/dirt, and there's plenty in NZ, this isn't the bike for that, I feel. I've had a couple of Tiger Explorers and they were ideal for that, and shaft, so no worries on pinging the belt! Belts are a bit pricey to change but you don't have to do the pulleys as you do the sprockets when you do a chain. They can also last for 10's of thousands ks. Just owning a bike is ouch it seems! Cheers.
I allowed a Saturday because I'm a bit methodical. I think it was about 3 to 4 hours all up. Quite easy if you even have just some basic skills. Cheers!

Love the belt drive....but not the screen....to me not in keeping....I limit myself to 65 to 70mph....open face helmet....still quite comfy. But its your bike Sir.....and it looks stunning.....you look after it real well....thank you for showing us your interesting mod....I wonder if the gearing remains the same. I know what your saying about the De-cat pipe....quite a fiddle.....but worth it....in several ways.....win win win.
Free Spirits out of Italy, although you will need to use one of their agents. I messaged them as their map of dealers wasn't accurate. www.freespiritsparts.com/en/belt-drive-conversion-for-triumph-bonneville-t120-black.html
You should change your tires while you’re at it . Those stock tires on the T120 are horrible! Makes a world of difference with new tires , I put the Pirelli Angel GTs on mine 👍
THAT's THE WAY THEY SHOULD MAKE THEM. AWESOME JOB! THANKS. GOD BLESS. 😇
Interesting video for sure. Didn’t know this was possible. I’ve now got the 2022 Triumph Bonneville T120.
Ak. NZ
Amazing. Glad you posted, was looking to this kit.
i did not even realise the belt kit was fitted blends in so well ,yours is a lot cleaner than mine
very nice kit and result. Stunning bike.

I like that very much.....pity more manufacturers don't do it as standard?
Made a great bike fantastic! - very nice
Oh my God!!!!! Thank you. Evolution
The "boost plug" only richens the mixture at idle and during acceleration. It's the trick setup, especially if you remove the Cat.

@@bobberbob.68 I have a 2012 T100. Have thought about the belt drive, but I might hold off until I upgrade my bike to a bobber. I'm in Brisbane

Nice! I wanna do this to my SpeedTwin.
nice work, and looks really clean and neat!!
who sells the upper and lower belt's guard?
and I wonder "the specific piece" was hard to make .

No, just the swing arm comes out, that's quite the modification if you have to start chopping!
Great 1 Does this include T100 please
It's showing a different part number on the FreeSpirits parts page: www.freespiritsparts.com/en/store/triumph/triumph-transmission/

My experience is better power at highway speeds and overall smoother power transmission to the rear wheel. Well worth the money. And no oil!! Yippee!

Is that the Marlin Dart screen? Great video. Thanks
Yes, separate video on that too!
Great job! Love the T120, but I also like the Moto Guzzi, so torn to what my next bike will be.
Love the V7 Classic with the new motor from the 850TT, was thinking about that one too, but no cruise option which I really need. Happy shopping!
Saw this done on Royal Enfield in the Philippines but good to know I can do my T120 also.

Am not far off needing to, so I'm going to soon!
Interesting choice for the T120. You running the GT's with tubes or are you on alloy wheels?
Very nice but doesn’t it take away some power from the bike?
Not at all. Just as torquey and smooth!
