Motorcycle and car enthusiast, but mostly motorcycles. Riding, building, adding bits on and taking bits off, all kinds of modifications to make a ride your own.
2019 Harley-Davidson Heritage Softail - Jockey Shift Project Part 6 - Rekluse Auto-Clutch
Today we fit a special component that really makes this whole project work so well, the Rekluse Auto-Clutch. It’s a clutch pack swap with a difference, a centrifugal ring that means you can come to a stop in gear with the clutch out, then as you lift the revs, the clutch engages and you move forward. Perfect for a foot clutch bike.
Bobberbob’s 2019 Heritage Softail - The Black Knight - is a modern Harley that’s going old school! It’s time to go to a jockey shift and foot clutch conversion. There’s not an off the shelf kit for this newer model Harley, so it’s tools out and we’re going to have to make it. This series has a few episodes to cover the whole build from start to finish.

License plate too wide for your Heritage detachable tour pack? Probably not where they have small license plates, but here in NZ, Harley detachables and plates sometimes don’t get along. very nice install great addition
Nice job Bob. Have to learn how to ride one handed.
do you think blue locktite would have been better.if you need to take it apart
@shovel7267 I had run out! With the smaller bolts I wanted to be sure. Will take it apart again soon to powder coat and will redo the loctite. Cheers!
Great looking bike, especially now with the uniquely your jockey shift . I like your detail oriented approach.
@frnktdmn1937 Appreciate that, couple more episodes to go!
That's a neat execution of bobber. Reminds me, "run what ya brung"
I watched all of this..... I would condense the content in future videos.
Thanks, it's how I make my videos, there's lots that doesn't make it in!
Little trick if you get small marks or excess polish that goes white on the Matt black around the bike. WD40, spray a small amount on it and use an absorbent rag and dab off straight away. Question on the foot clutch, I’ve seen these many a times on LNSPTBLVD vlogs. As we all know, when the wife moves her very fine rear on the back seat at the lights while stationary, we have to use the other leg to balance the bike. How does this go when using the foot clutch?
@@Steve-Debs I've fitted a Rekluse centrifugal clutch this week, you can come to a stop in gear with the clutch out then just roll it on and move again. Keep an eye out for episode 6!
Good video I like learning new things keep up the good work
What paint do you use to be able to bake it on.
@Steve-Debs It's just interior/ exterior enamel from Supercheap automotive supplies. It's not actually for automotive use, says the can! The baking was to help with the drying as it was a bit cool out, about 60 degrees C for an hour or so. I'll get things powder coated eventually I think. Cheers!
THIS just highlights one of the MANY reasons I will NEVER own another piece of sh_t Harley Davidson!
It was an older bike when I got it with higher miles, things do wear out! I've had a good run over 20 years of many Harleys. Ride safe!
Hi Bobberbob, thanks for the comprehensive review and impressions of this beautiful bike. I bought exactly the same one yesterday.
Thanks for this video, I'm doing the same thing with my 2013 Ultra Limited. I was looking for a kit when I came across your video and is much more in line with my vision. Thanks again!!!
what size socket box u use for untight compase compensator.
@suenasuhani96 I believe the factory bolt is 13/16 and the S/E replacement bolt is torx T70.
Grt Shw /;-)) I Think You Can Grind Alittle Off . To Get Comp. Out ...Less Work/;-)))
Great video Bob! Great commentary and sound/video quality!! Why does it take a British guy to do an actual ownership review of their Harley CVO? It seems that just about every other TH-cam video on a CVO bike by an American is a 3-minute sales pitch by a dealer trying to sell the bike seven years ago! Keep it up Bob!
@@chrisjstratton What can I say!
which horn kit do you got installed?
@TheFosland1 just s stock unit I think, or one that fits in the stock location. The bike's long gone!
Great 1 Does this include T100 please
It's showing a different part number on the FreeSpirits parts page: www.freespiritsparts.com/en/store/triumph/triumph-transmission/
Saw this done on Royal Enfield in the Philippines but good to know I can do my T120 also.
I was changing my 2012 compensator upgraded to a dark horse instead of the HD junk or screaming eagle. Very quiet with no clanging metal parts to deal with and also can be maintained. As far as the block to loosen the clutch and compensator nuts I had a ten dollar nail puller you can get from any hardware store , cut it to length and worked great.
did you use the rear or front brake for that emergency stop?!
Both, as you do.
Good job, how’d it turn out?
@emersongraves5869 All fixed in part two! Well sold now, good learning experience though. Cheers.
Bought the Dart Classic. Great quality. Unfortunately creates an insane amount of buffeting. They have a 30 day satisfaction guarantee so its going back. Too bad. Looks good.
Got mine directly posted and seemed to be much cheaper than what you got local. EDIT: actually 224.80 so basically the same
Like it
doesnt look very worn to me. Harleys are just junk unreliable
Can't beat Welly on a good day! Used to be the challenge was to do the Ton up Ngauranga Gorge, back in the late 70's/early 80's. Bit diabolical with the off camber it had... I 'may' have done Queen St to Johnsonville overpass in 6h22 on my GPz900r one time, but that wasn't trying as hard as I could, and today's bikes could probably take another hour, or more, off that as well...
@@kenniffss I hear you! Cold Kiwis, Sulphur City's, Hamilton for a hamburger stuff in the 80's! I'm all for the safety enhancements, abs and cruise, but the roads and driving culture and monsieur plod are the reason I lollop around on my Harley! Cheers!
Hi Bob So did you put all female pins so they would stay on the bike? And then order up some dummy plugs to seal em up? Got all the stuff to do this myself. On my 08 Ultra.
@nazareth4u524 Hi, all the female ends are on the bike harness end and the make ends are on the tour pak side. I hadn't really thought about the rationale around that! They're not plugged either as the do tuck away when in unplugged. In that case maybe if the male ends were on the bike side with the little rubber caps that would ensure greater weather tightness when you do yours. The pak stays on mostly on now as my son rides with his wife. Happy splicing!
Cool I'll do it like yours. But I do think I'll pick up the dummy plugs anyway. Cheap insurance. Thanks for the helpful video. Best on youtube 😊
Hi Bob Done deal 😊 I couldn't help thinking when I cut the first set of wires. I hope I didn't ruin the bike. But all went well and everything works. I didn't cut or splice the com or either antenna wire. I run em over to the throttle side of the bike (right side) circled them all up and quick tied them. and zip ties them under the side cover by the battery box. I put a under the fairing radio antenna in. Don't plan on using the com or CB. Cleared up a lot more room on top the battery. Very happy how it turned out. Thanks for the great video👍
@@nazareth4u524 Well done, there's a great deal of satisfaction in tackling a job that's more than an oil change and it works!
great job mate!
I always used a old rag folded up on the comoensator and clutch to lock it in place
Using a rag sounds practical I will have to drive thank you..
I will try it
Thanks for your video! Stay safe! I'm looking for a screen for my 2023 Speedtwin and one of these just might be the ticket. Cheers!
That sound is the sound of pushing the starter button for one half a second.
I can see your purpose of getting a lighter and smaller bike versus the CVO. I'm a chrome nut when it comes to Harley which is why I ended up with my '16 CVO like the one you had and believe it or not I've added even more chrome. You're making it yours, which is what it is all about!
Oh no 😳 new bike looks nice. . . You won't miss the weight 🦛
I have an identical '16 CVO Limited and you had me gritting my teeth when it fell over. It definitely is a heavy bike! I ended up taking off the tour pack to eliminate a bit of the top heaviness. Good luck with the new bike!
There was lots of clenching going on!
First like mi❤
Back in November 2018, I opted for a brand new Ultra Limited with the new 107 engine, which was my first ever Harley. It was heavily discounted to make way for the bigger 114 engine coming in early 2019. I had though, been very close to buying a 2016 CVO just like yours which was a similar price. I wonder if I made a mistake firstly because 3 years down the line I took the big hit (from new) when i traded it and possibly i might have done better with the CVO on resale? Anyway, apart from its reluctance to start on very cold mornings, and i got caught out on some bad deterioration on the fork legs, having sold it for financial reasons I realise now just how much I loved it! I now want another, and one like yours will definitely be on on my radar in due course. House move come first though! Great video.
Sadly, Blue Monkey has left the garage just this week. All will be revealed though in an upcoming video!
Hey bob, An 8 inch block of wood between the sprockets works better and limits any damage to the sprockets and chain. Great Video ..
I know the vid was a year ago but for others that may be watching, I had the same thing happen with an 08 roadking. I put a new balls clutch in the starter and it worked perfectly from then on. You will still enjoy your new compensator with less slop. Great video!
😊😊
Background music is entirely too loud.
That sound is the sound of using excessive engine braking, throttle blipping, and overly hard acceleration. Choose your poison, baby the drivetrain or,,,,,,
I am going to add this to my 2021 W800, good review and thorough. Thank you.
I was really glad that you were able to correct the rotor! Well done mate! I agree with @WilliamWBG that it was likely the bike shop that did the damage and not yourself, however, you did a great job in rectifying the issue. Cheers.
Bob did you sell this bike if not it is still on my radar..........but I am about a month away
The new owner proudly rode it home yesterday! New project bike coming soon. Cheers.
Is it still for sale as I dont see it any more on trade me
Sold a while back now, cheers.
Thanks for a great video without all the profanity and vulgarity that is so prevalent in America today. Your videos are educational with lots of classic! I ride a 2008 Road King Classic. Just purchased it and it broke down the next week. New stator, regulator, compensator… 1875.00. No warranty. Yeah, pretty sick. But that’s life. Old bikes need things. Thanks again. Virginia, USA.
I tuned in to your video because your bike is very simular to mine even the color. And I couldn't help but feel your pain. All the stuff crammed in a small space. But while in their take the time to make some improvements. Right off I'd replace the style of chain tensioner with the older style,as they are less problematic. And really check out you stator they are prone to fail. And perhaps up grade your compensator, the older compensatory I hear were better. My electraglide is an 04 has 50k, and compensator hasn't failed yet. probably just jinxed myself.
The bike's now sold! The older style comp on the Evo and 88's was adequate due to the torque not being as high as the 96 and 103s which is why they changed it with the se version. The only stator regulator issues I ever had was on an 88 ci RG! Cheers.
BobberBob if you were to do one more thing to this bike what would it be. Your bike looks amazing
It's pretty sorted as it now sits! Probably some nice saddle bags for touring, but I have another bike that's more sorted for touring.
Amazing. Glad you posted, was looking to this kit.
Compensating for garbage engineering. I can't stand Harley's and or working on them. Chrome plated tractors.
Had a friend that had one. Red and silver. It was a beautiful bike 😅
