    Dawn Powerwash for cleaning dishes saves a ton of water. "Navy showers" save water. A portable shower stall (buy or build) and showering outside saves gray tank space. Prewashing fruits and veggies at home or when hooked up saves water and gray tank space.

    Good to see you guys exploring more dry camping. It really opens up your options for camping. We dry camp often for a week at a time or more. We are in the Shenandoah National Park now, which only offers dry camping spots. Our Solar/Lithium/Inverter setup really makes it easy to dry camp. Most of our favorite sites in Canada and the US have been drycamping spots. We can go a week or more on 50 gallons of water, using our shower, you just get good at taking 2 gallon showers. You offer some really great tips for people that are considering dry camping who never do it. The truth of the mater is, with the explosion of camping we have to dry camp in really poplular areas because all the hookup campgrounds are full. Great video Izzy and MJ. I’m guessing there is a lot of dry camping in your future. See you out there. Larry

    We do a lot of dry camping. We just came off a 3 1/2 week trip were we mainly dry camped. We use spray bottles to wash and rinse dishes and pans. We eat fresh vegetables a lot. We plan one pot meals when we cook. We carry dry fruit and nuts to snack on and mix into our meals. We have battery operated string lights for at night and a book light so I can read before going to bed. When no showers are available we use baby wipes to clean ourselves and a battery operated shaver . When we do use the generator we make sure that everything that needs to be charged up is plugged in. We only need to plug in the generator a max of 3 hrs. to get everything charged up for the next 24 hrs. Dry camping is easy if you plan a head. In fact we prefer it, places tend to be less crowded.

    Me:83. Wife:80. 2001 Monaco Class A. 135,000 miles on it. We dry camp a lot. Biggest hint: You can dry camp in downtown Chicago at the "Marshalling Yard for McCormick Place" for $35/night... total dry camping there... we can go a week easily... even taking showers every other day. We plan ahead and dry camp at Wal-Marts, Flying-J, and often at a venue we simply ask if we can stay overnight, as at a museum, a parking lot of a boat trip, casinos (!), churches (call ahead and ask), Interstate rest areas, bar lots, Elks Lodges, Moose Lodges --- we both belong to both.... hundreds of places... we do not carry an extra water pump... only one replaced in 21 years....
    And, even where we have full hookups WE DO NOT HOOKUP EVERYTHING... often only electric... why not? Because we don't need to dump everyday, we don't need more water everyday. We use only what we need. Too much work at our ages. We have auto levelers.... we seldom use them.... we carry a 2x12x24 planks and survey the site... and one under one wheel (or two for back doubles) usually gets us level... we have full awnings.... we don't use them... we simply sit on the shady side of the rv. Easy life.

    We’ve never dry camped because we have no solar or generator. I would think it would be very easy with a generator. I was a little surprised though when you said how often you run the generator. I’ve heard others say it’s a couple of hours in the morning and a couple of hours in the evening. I would think even less than that if you don’t need air.

    • @EndlessRVing
      @EndlessRVing  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      We did run the generator during the day to keep the air on when on the coach and top off the batteries, plus the best thing for the generator is to run it. They are made to run and last the longest when they are used regularly. Thanks for watching and the comment.

    Another good video. I think we Dry camp more than being hookedup. Usually from Friday till Sunday we travel to tournaments and park at Wally World. 6 house batteries and Solar and I never worry about power. I run the Gen while traveling if it's hot for the ACs but I like this time of the year a like a week or so ago, with cool nights and windows cracked. 12.06 volts is 50% but I usually never drop down below 12.5 with just lights, TV and occasional water pump usage. We have a Septic so I just dump at home. Find the best way and do what works. Safe travels.

  • @msgtjeff
    @msgtjeff 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    We dry camp some also. Not sure it's a good practice to take your dirty dishes to a public "spout" or water supply. You end up dumping or putting "gray water" onto the ground. AND now the ground around the water supply is wet and messy. i say, stay self contained and keep your solid/gray/black waste where your RV is signed to keep it. . . . .PS: we do enjoy your video's and have learned much. . .thank you!

      If you are going to wash your dishes at a water hydrant make sure to scrape the plates and wipe them down with paper towels first so you leave no food residue. You can also use a container to catch the rinse water then put it on grass or at the base of a tree away from the faucet. We do that when tent camping. Food residue attracts ants.

    We spent 8 days in a state park we had water and electric but no sewer, this is our test or practice for boondocking we used our bathroom consistently in other words we did not use the parks restroom for 8 days we also showered 2 people for 8 days practically every day, and we washed dishes every day inside. We have 2 gray tanks of 45 gal each and one black tank 45 gal in 8 days continuous use we did not fill the. We have done 14 days and only partially using showers and restrooms and walking to the park restroom during the day and still did not fill them. BTW we don’t use the crappy meters in the RV we know that if the toilet burps when you flush it’s full, or if water sits in the shower it’s full. So our next test is to try and measure the amount of water we use in that same number of days. I am getting a water meter to put on the hose that will display Gal of water used so we can estimate how much water we use on the same stretch of days. Our only downside is power we have lithium but no solar so we would be reliant on a generator. We plan on boondocking more but will have to figure it all out.

    We dry camp a few times a year with a BAY STAR. our tanks are similar to yours but we never use public facilities. We shower and use the RV for food prep with no problems; always enough water and holding tank capacity. It is easy as MJ said, you just pul in and set up the RV and your done. The Generator is a wonderful tool for dry camping!!! Welcome To Watkins Glenn, a really beautiful place in NYS.

  • @rvb8093
    @rvb8093 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    You can dry camp even with small tanks. We've dry camped (2 adults) for 5 or 6 days in a 44 year old Airstream trailer with a 34 gallon water tank, 12 gallon grey tank, and a 10 gallon black tank. Take sponge baths, use public toilets if possible, use paper plates. Put diluted dish soap in a spray bottle and it takes much less water to rinse dishes off. Use the dishwater to flush the toilet because the gray tank fills up faster than the black tank. Conserve water is the big thing. We have 400w of solar and 220 AH golf cart batteries and only run a generator if we need to run the AC. Be creative, once we were camped at a rally on a city square and the city hospital was 1 block away. The ER was open 24 hrs so I used the bathroom there (my wife used the trailer). At the same rally, the Courthouse on the square had sewer cleanouts on all 2 sides which are exactly what you hook up to in an RV park. A friend's wife took a shower every day so he used a portable blue boy and dumped into the sewer at the building each night. Be creative. Add an outside shower to your rig and you can wash your hair outside and not fill the gray tank. It's also great if you camp on the beach to wash sand off before entering.

    We prefer dry camping. We have a small toy hauler TT that has 100g fresh, 76g grey and 40g black. We also have a 4000W generator and some solar to keep the batteries topped off.
    We also have kids which complicates everything. Our boondockong is typically in areas off main roads where all we see are trees. So, one trick we learned to extend black tank use is to have a “poop tent”. We have a small 4X4 tent with a 5g Home Depot bucket. Campo sells a toilet seat that snaps on the bucket and a bag with some magic powder to help the poop decompose. When the bag is about half full, simply remove, zip closed and throw in trash bin.
    Many other tricks to help reduce fresh water usage also really helps.
    We do enjoy “glamping” from time to time

We do have 400 watts of solar but still have the flooded six volt batteries so the solar does help a lot. Solar doesn't eliminate the need for a generator but it definitely helps. We dry camp with small Class C motorhomes with holding tanks a third the size of what you have and can go for about a week before needing to dump/refresh the tanks. A lot of it is water conservation and using other water sources whenever possible. You should be able to go for a fairly long time in that unit. Plus the bigger the RV the less places you can dry camp.

It was clean and fun to do. I would do it again. Izzy that’s a great way to wash dishes because that’s how we did it camping when we had a spicket to use. Thank you for these tips. Have a great night. See you soon!

    Dry camping is the way to go. Definitely need solar panels; as many as will fit. :)

    I really enjoy having my 3-5 gallon primo water jugs, I can usually make 1 (3 gallon) jug using my hand pump to do dishes (also the water s purified so it can be used for drinking and cooking last a weekend Friday/Sat. Thank you for your helpful tips too! 🖖🏻😘👍🏻🙏🏻

    Another great segment you guys! This looked like such a great trip. 😎👍 Some really good dry camping tips. We haven’t gone “un-hooked” yet, but it’s in the game plan. Looking for a rig with some level of solar. So we’ll see how it works out.
    Great stuff you two! 👍👍 Safe travels!

    Great video, thanks. Dry camping is fun! Like you have, it's good to figure out your consumption so you have accurate estimates about how long you can go. I've run out of fresh water before and I was pretty remote so had to fill with 1-gallon RV antifreeze jugs. Not fun. Some people are weird about this, but do you drink the water in your fresh tank? I have for years and never had a problem - but some swear I will get sick because it is old/stale.
    Off-topic - but what is that mounted on your front license plate? Camera? Light? I'm always on the lookout for gadgets. Thanks.

    Have only glamped so far. Haven't really run into an instance where we would want or need to dry camp. Not against it.

    Still learning what I can get away with. I will be doing both more next year. I let my generator run all night at rest areas. 8k burns quite a bit of gas. I really need better batteries too. "Stock" batteries just dont have the duration that better batteries have.

    • @EndlessRVing
      @EndlessRVing  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The stock batteries suck. At minimum an upgrade to 6v golf cart and the addition of an auto Gen start should give you what you need.

    Great tips. We are like you guys, we typically GLAMP!! But staying at a Harvest host over the weekend or something as cool as staying in the infield of a race, I could certainly do that. Our tank sizes are slightly larger thank yours but would certainly need to adjust the style of camping to make it work for 5 days. How'd the batteries look in the morning after supporting the fridge all night?

      Hey Tom
      We were at 12.4 volts in the morning. That was from approx 10pm to 7am no generator.

    Regarding Genturi or any other brand, always best to have a system that safely vents generator gasses up and out. If not there’s the potential of co2 venting into your or someone else’s open windows.

    I'm trying to sale everything and purchase my first motorhome. I'm really wanting a class A between a 43 to 45.
    I willing to go to an older motorhome in able to achieve this. It seem to be hard to find anything newer than 2008, because
    everything else is already sold. Their are a few out their but the prices are way high , but still people are getting them as fast
    as they are put on the internet. I figure that with all fracking stopped and we have gone to a main exporter of oil and buying
    from the middle east will drive gas prices really high. As soon as diesel gets over five dollars a gallon people will be letting
    these motorhome go. I will have to wait and see I do not wish this to happen in anyway, but I would bet this is to happen in the
    next few months. I stay watching and learning about motorhome until them. Thanks for sharing your video with me !

    Did they require using Genturi generator exhaust systems to route exhaust up over the rigs? When we are at AKC dog agility trials where a lot of rigs are dry camping and parked closely, they do.

    • @EndlessRVing
      @EndlessRVing  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      No they did not. Lots of generators going at the track.
