The Bible doesn't say Izraelites, it says the Hebrews. As historians all agreed that Hebrews were a group of people from different ethnic offering their services for construction, the jews want to replace the word Hebrew with Izraelite to redefine themselves in the far past.

I think it was just a metaphor, not to be taken literally.
Judges 6 tells the story of Gideon. It states that the Meionites and Amalekites were allowed to prosper against Israel BECAUSE of the sins of Israel. Gideon and the tribes of Israel prospered against them and threw them off. First Gideon threw down the altars and groves of Baal, which were UNLAWFUL for Israel to have and worship. Gideon and his band of three hundred were victorious against the large multitudes aligned against them. But when Gideon died, Israel returned to their idolatry (and troubles) same as before.
