    i own 4 carryon trailer a 6x12 utility.a 6x14 enclosed cargo with rear ranp/ a carryon 18 ft car trailer and a small 5x6 utility trailer. for taking my mowers to the whop when i need it. they are great trailers. never had a issue with anyof them.the enclosed trailer is for my motorcycle.i did find otto buy a gator left for the heavy rear ramps/ i love carryon, thier warrenty is easy, even on stupid light that aare bad. and connections to the truck they are great. one phone call and new parts were on the way/ i did make some mods like a better jack with wheels. painted the floor on the enclosed trailer/ and water proofed the exposed wood the the utility trailers.i even custom painted the enclosed trailer and put chrome wheels on it. carry on is a great trailer

    Thanks for demonstrating how to measure for balance. I once bought a brand new trailer an had to return it because it was pulling to the right. The seller did not haggle . I think they resold it two days later. I will use your techniques on my next purchase .

    Thanks for this tutorial on selecting trailers. I'm starting to think about my next one, and I will certainly be able to apply what I have been taught here so I will get a good one.
    As far as tires - I would just like to add that I have had WAY better luck with good Ol' American made, Goodyear Marathon radial trailer tires {now called Endurance). Though I am always very careful to keep my trailer tires rotated and properly inflated, the Chinese ones have always worn funny and not lasted very long, and they have even had a tendency to blow out at highway speed. However, I have never failed to get great service and life from the Goodyear ones, and have never suffered a single catastrophic failure when running them. They are worth every penny of the extra cost incurred at the time of purchase.

    I appreciate you sharing info. Would you please give me some advice on buying a trailer for strictly residential use. I do a have full size truck. I do a lot of home improvement projects and where I use plywood etc…I also occasionally haul drainage rock to use around my property. What would be the minimum size and carry capacity would you recommend? Carrying things like sofas, freezers and bags of mulch etc. Just typical stuff around the house. Any help that you can offer would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

    If you have say 1000 pounds to tow, or 800 or whatever... my question is does it pull the same or differently if you are pulling the weight from behind instead of having it on the car's body itself? Is it better for the same amount of weight to be pulled instead of on the axle and body weight of the car itself?

    • @polkadotfarms
      @polkadotfarms  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Every scenario is different, and you should always adhere to local, state, and federal guidelines. That being said, on my farm, I try to load 60% on the tongue side and 40% on the back half. I hope this helps!

  • @comlbbeau
    @comlbbeau 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Often ignored is the fact that the weight supported by the vehicle's bumper does not count toward the gross weight of the trailer. Normally a bumper-pulled trailer should have 10-15% tongue weight. In your example, your 1,000 pound trailer with a 6,000 pound load, if the load is properly distributed with, say, 10% tongue weight (700 pounds), the actual trailer gross weight across the scales would be 6,300 pounds, giving you considerable more useful load.

    Hi, thank you for this highly informative video. I'm located in South Florida, and I found a 20' tandem axle bumper pull utility trailer listed on the fb market site. In speaking to the seller oh, I learned that she had just purchased the trailer back in April and, likely as a result of not taking heed to some of the Priceless information that you've provided here, suffered a tire blowout on the highway. Upon having a new tire installed, she says that she realized then that the axle was bent from the pothole-induced blowout. It must have been pretty bad because it prompted her to have the now defective axle removed and completed the trip home with one of the two axles remaining.
    My main question would be this: does this add up to you or does it seem like there's a lot more than what she has described going on here? If I had to guess based upon our limited dialog oh, I would say that she likely was embarking upon and Endeavor for which she had made little preparation and done little or no research. Her goal was to build a tiny home structure on this trailer, which would lead me to believe that she either was pipe dreaming about doing that or there is more to it than simply replacing the now-removed axle. I would think if you can build a camper you could at the very least have the ability to Source out somebody who could weld a replacement on at a reasonable cost.
    I don't need to even ask if $500 is reasonable for a 20 ft tandem axle utility trailer; I'm well aware that it is.
    ☆ My question then would be: assuming I follow your guidance on diagonal measurement and the frame is within the +/-¼" range of acceptable tolerance, along with the weld quality etc,
    would you consider the trailer to be worth pursuing?

    • @polkadotfarms
      @polkadotfarms  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for the question! The great thing about working with metal is that it can be cut and welded to gain proper tolerance if done correctly. I can't tell you the right decision. Personally, I wouldn't mind taking a gamble for the right asking price dependent on a proper repair job.

    • @polkadotfarms
      @polkadotfarms  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Great question, you may want to research what the average dimensions of 3 tons of pellets to determine the size, a tandem 16' trailer with two 3500 lb axles should be to handle 3 tons if loaded properly. I hope this helps.

    Hey bud I’m kinda stuck. I’ve recently purchased a piece of equipment for my business, it’s 2 ft wide x 5ft long x 4 ft high and weighs 2,100lbs. It was delivered via a flat bed and fork lift. I didn’t realize how hard it would be to find a smaller trailer to carry it. It’s a pretty small tool so I was hoping to find a 5x8 enclosed trailer but none of them are rated to carry anything over about 1,200lbs. Without going to a 12 or 16 ft trailer how do I manage this? Maybe get an after market axle? I’m also on a budget since the machine cost so much (4-8k budgeted for trailer). Till I figure it out I’m renting a uhaul trailer to move it. Any advice?

    • @polkadotfarms
      @polkadotfarms  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Option 1: Consider visiting with a local or nearby builder/manufacturer. Most of those guys will try to work with you and customize those things on a budget.
      Option 2: If you're finding success using a uhaul trailer, you may consider buying a used one.

    • @polkadotfarms

      Most utility/farm trailers will have a straight axle. The more specialized the design, the more varied the axle. For example, many livestock trailers will have drop axles.
