    As a prospector of 8 years who has found over 12 ounces of gold, the best advice I can give any new prospector is to test, test, test. The more you know the area you are working the better results you will have. It is common for me to test pan for 2-3 days before I find an area I deem worth working.

    • @GlacialGoldHunter

      I would imagine if you have the time to spend doing that it’s well worth it.

      Has anyone found any actual evidence for an impact? Seems an impact strong enough to move bedrock all around an area would have left quite the evidence, including metamorphic and igneous rock to go with the gold.

    • @GlacialGoldHunter
      @GlacialGoldHunter  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@legonut78 no not necessarily. Metamorphic processes are generally regional and impact is small by comparison. They find evidence for an impact such as shock quartz and disrupted bedrock without any regional events.

    Hey Hunter. Some info for you- Actually Wisconsin has gold deposits that are'nt from glacial deposits. Were talking gold from actually quartz veins scattered thru out northern Wisconsin in various greenstone belts. Some of these deposits have been assayed and contain thousands of Ozs of gold! Good luck!

    • @GlacialGoldHunter
      @GlacialGoldHunter  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    🤔 I know that it's flower dust around here in Duluth and superior and around here but is it possible to find one big chunk or one big nugget? And if there was so much volcanoes around here, isn't it possible to find like a diamond here or there?

    • @GlacialGoldHunter
      @GlacialGoldHunter  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Diamonds are found in a very specific type of volcanism. And that is found more in northern Canada but not around Duluth. There are some reports of diamonds that the glaciers brought down though. I’ve never seen one though.
      And if there was a gold nugget it would be very random but it’s not impossible.

    Cool video. When i was in college at UW Eau Claire I came over here to check out the Rock Elm disturbance. An extremely rare mineral called reidite was discovered there, which has only been found in 5-6 other places on earth. It is a form of metamorphized zircon, which can only occur by a meteor. The faulted rock you pointed out is the outer reach of the impact area. The impact location is a small raised hill on private property. I found a nice piece of banded iron there.

I'll admit I didn't have much luck there but it's a bigger, more flowing, cleaner, larger river. It is popular. It would be cool to see what you can prospect/discover there. Very foolish that someone ID'd this place. Except for filling the holes you mentioned, THAT'S the way to ruin nice spots.

    • @GlacialGoldHunter

      That’s much more subtle and over a larger region. So impact makes sense but geology does a lot of interpretation of the evidence and it’s possible that sometimes there is another interpretation.

    We got out two days last week and found a pretty good spot. The bugs weren't even that bad!
    My understanding is that the meteorite didn't deliver the gold, but blasted the crust which left a fair amount on the surface.
    Visually, to me, the gold looks different than the glacial micro gold dust. I bet a microscope would shed some light on the source and travel distance of the gold.

      @@GlacialGoldHunterHi! Another woman interested in this. I'm in East Central MN on the Mississippi. My area has exposed granite nearby and gravel. Dig 2 ft in my yard and gravel - more like small rock. Along my land runs a 1000 ft spring fed creek in a 15 ft deep ravine with high output. It averaged about 1-2 ft deep and 40 ft wide at the mouth. It's lower now d/t a city well a mile away straining the water table (sprinklers watering monoculture lawns, long showers, hot tubs, pools, overpopulation). Near the spring are small rocks stained presumably with iron, covered with black sludge. Farther down toward the river, more sand with sludge. I'm on a reservoir, so I'm assuming this creek ran deeper over rock into a lower river, and the lower part has filled with sand and silt leveling the bed. There was a large sandbar at the mouth that had a damming effect. The DNR stupidly allowed a neighbor to excavate most of it for better river access. 35 yrs later they said the permit shouldn't have been granted as river water and silt have infiltrated the mouth, and there's a bit of a quicksand situation (I've gotten stuck, and while still sinking was able to get out thanx to a tree branch. Had to dig out the waders!). Also there's a clay layer about 20 ft - know this from driving wells. So, given all that, any prospects in my backyard? The creek is right there and it might be a fun hobby. 😊

    I didn't think Wisconsin had any accessible gold because of the glaciers. Whatever gold there was is buried in the sand and gravel under the topsoil. Would panning sand pits be worth a try? I just found this channel so I'm new at this.

    • @GlacialGoldHunter
      @GlacialGoldHunter  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Wisconsin has very little in way of gold deposits of its own. A lot of the flour gold came with the glaciers as there came down from Canada. Sand pits could be a good place to test because that would be a place of out wash from the glaciers. Sand with gravel might be better but the only way to know for sure is to test.
