Excellent video. I paid a computer shop $140 to do what you did and it broke again. With your video I am redoing it myself. I am halfway through and your video is walking me through each step. Thanks.

Thanks so much for this video, helped a lot! BTW for people doing this, don't put too much of the liquid metal on the hinges or around it because then the plastic hinge cover that goes on top of it won't fit. Put exactly the amount you see in the video. I made the mistake of putting too much and then had to sand the liquid metal off after a few hours when it had already settled and it took me ages. I would recommend letting the liquid metal dry for a FEW minutes and then put the hinge cover on and see if it fits into place and if it doesn't just take off some of it as it would still be soft. And also make sure that that the hinges are in the right place because then the screw holes on the hinges won't align with the holes on your laptop which could cause a problem. I would also recommend you check this before the liquid metal settles in. If anyone has any question just reply to this comment and I'll help you out. Good luck :)

Thank you for this video. I was able to repair the hinges on my own ZenBook with epoxy I had left over at no cost. It saved me money and set up time from not having to buy another Laptop. Make a note when disconnecting the two wires on the left of the circuit board. Connect the wire with the white band to the right main snap terminal (marked white on the IC).

Just repaired mine last night. Thanks for the video. Followed step by step and was able to get it working again. The one step I did was to loosen the hinge nuts just a bit. Less than a quarter turn and now the screen opens and closes so much easier. This should minimize the stress placed on the epoxy repaired hinges. I was certain I would have to trash the damn notebook.

Sir, what is that process from 4:11 to 6:31 ?
Is it that, you are using some rotary filing buff or something to remove the residue plastics off of the metal base ???
    Please clarify.
It is indeed the best reference video I found on youtube. Thanks for sharing !

Hi. Yes, you are right. It’s a a small drill machine used to remove the old glue, and a little deform the surface to keep the new glue better. There is not so much space for the glue between the housing and hinge. Thx for review.

I rarely saw a compound based fix for a broken hinge to work as long term solution. If you want to be sure the fix will hold strong, and don't mind the cosmetic look,
best to drill 2mm holes throught the top or botom panel and secure it with M2 nuts and screws. For this laptop, I drilled 6 holes through the top aluminium panel. At least I know the hinge will last a long time.

We carried out almost 80 repairs as shown in the video. So far one (!) complaint, after 4 years. This procedure cannot be applied to every laptop. But in this model with goodrum two-component glue, it works

My advice is you can apply some oil at the hinge especially at the bolt area to make it smoother. The hinge become stiffer overtime which is cause it harder to open and cause the plastic holding the hinge to broke. Sorry my bad English.🙏

    Hi!
My hinges broke a few days ago and your tutorial is great, I'll be trying to repair my computer in the coming days. Just two questions:
    - Did you repair/replace the broken plastic at 3:13 or did you just use glue?
    - Did you use the old hinges or did you buy new ones?
    Thanks.

I was just lecturing my nephew about his broken hinge on his laptop recently, about always opening it at the center of the lid. He broke his left side one once before and i epoxy glued it back. It failed again, but surprisingly the previous work held and it was the other side.
And then... Today it happened on my personal device lol. damn it.

Great video i am doing one off these exact laptops at the moment but i decided to order a new back screen panel as i have used this method before and unfortunately it only lasted around 2 months, the annoying thing is these are expensive laptops and this is a known problem the manufacturer should make the whole back panel off the screen in some kind off lite metal such as aluminium. plastic just goes brittle and breaks.

I have a 2016 (4 year old) ASUS K501UW and I had the exact same problem, the high quality metal hinges are just fine but the low end plastic they are bolted to is brittle. It's a shame for ASUS to have made such a poor design decision given that it's such an important moving part.
I fixed it using an epoxy-resin mix solution like you have shown (Araldite Standard Epoxy Adhesive). I would like to inform anyone else trying to find a fix that the epoxy fix is only temporary. Mine held strong for 3-4 months after which I had to redo the procedure (which also lasted for 4 months). But this might be due to the brand that I have used. You have been warned.

They broke your wifi cable or not connected it properly to the antenne. Open the cover and find the wifi antenne connector and check whether is connected properly to the motherboard. If the cable is ok, just push it firmly to the motherboard and it will work again. If it's broken just buy an usb wifi adapter, maybe cheaper than repairing the cable.
