      Watch the rear of the rocker where the rear subframe mountings are...BMW put a spongue inside the rockers.

    Extremely well done! This bimmer deserved it!
    My experience with sunroofs: once I had a 1986 e30 with sunroof.... BTW it had water trapped somewhere into the chassis. Every time I had to park uphill or downhill I could hear water flushing. Not nice. I made sure not to buy another sunroof car since. Fun fact is, usually sellers take extra pride and charge extra money for a sunroof LOL! For someone it can be a nice extra, but in the long run not worth the hassle, if you ask me.

      @davidsgarage  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you! I love sunroofs but they almost always do need new seals. I made a video about changing that on this car. The one seal was literally non existent before!

    Looks great dude! I'm "looking forward" to doing the same on mine...plus a few dozen other patches. It was nice to get an x-ray preview of what lays ahead. I also like the way you shot and edited this. I may have to borrow some of those techniques for my channel.

    Dave nicely executed. It would be interesting to see how you worked the compound bend patches as well. As for the body Shultz, I think Wurtz is the best and most factory, but you probably know that. Good job.

    Would there be a way to route the drain hose differently in order to prevent the corners from rusting, even in if takes 45 years 😉?

      @davidsgarage  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you! Not a bad idea to reroute the drains. I hope if it’s kept clean and out of the weather it will last!

    Epic! Please do a video on how you go about shaping the metal. Also what was that copper looking spray you used?

    • @davidsgarage
      @davidsgarage  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you! The copper spray is zinc weld thru primer. Helps protects the metal before welding!

    You have a great way to explain your work. I was hoping to find out how you separate the fender from the welded part at the nose of the car. Do you just cut it off?

    • @davidsgarage

      Thank you! New windshield seals are easily available online through the main Classic Bmw parts suppliers. I prefer the genuine BMW ones!

    • @davidsgarage
      @davidsgarage  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you! I actually used paintable undercoating and then got matched paint to use. Hope that helps!

    No underestimating the chore that getting that black nasty insulation out is. Lots of hard work, but with judicious editing, you made it look easy! GREAT job, beautiful metal work. I love those hand fabbed pieces.

      For the floor stuff, you can use dry ice and cover the floor area with it, go over it with some light smacks of the hammer and take it up with a screwdriver. No real easy way to do the stuff that covers vertical panels, though.

    • @JohnQuillen
      @JohnQuillen 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I tried the dry ice method, but wound up resorting to a heat gun and putty knife for most of it. No fun at all.

    What sorts of tools do you use to shape the metal? I saw you have a sort of round-topped tool that you use for some of the shaping. I'm curious most about the rounded bends especially. I'm guessing some kind of pneumatic stamping tool?

    Nice work David! I'm wondering why you needed to remove the dash for this repair? Was it just to give you more room to work?

    • @davidsgarage
      @davidsgarage  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Good question! Basically because I was welding and grinding in the interior as well and thought it was best to keep the dash in a safe place.
