i think people feel super attacked at any criticism towards something they like, even if it's mild criticism. also, you read so much that it's impossible to like the majority of what you read. i personally notice that with movies, which i watch a lot of. it gets to a point where you feel like you've seen most things and nothing is surprising you anymore. but that's not necessarily bad, especially not for someone with a channel, since you can help us avoid the bad or mediocre stuff and focus on the good books with the limited free time we have. i don't know, i love your content and that you are honest with what you think. it's a good thing. i think people just take criticisms personally and fail to understand that you disliking a book or criticizing it isn't the same as invalidating someone's taste.
Definitely wait and buy a kindle for summer prime day! I bought an ad free 2020 paperwhite on prime day and I think it was at least 20% off with free shipping. The battery lasts SO LONG (I charge it once a month and I read for at least an hour every day) and is really comfortable to hold. The one bad thing about it is that the pages jump around and glitch occasionally and if you try to click through the pages quickly.

The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck was a book I read at the right time because I found it super helpful, despite Mark Manson's moments of uh Cishet White Man ™ thoughts. But I really appreciated the stuff about how it's okay to give up and there's no shame in that.
The paper white is awesome. I charge mine every two weeks and I read about 3-4 hours a day. But I get the button thing as I also have a kobo with page turners. The pop socket on the paper white makes up for it I think.
I was so excited to see this video pop up. I know you said your just taking it day by day and I think that's the perfect thing to do and I'm just hoping for nothing but the best for you guys. Also For the nerve I have get extreme low back spasms which pinch nerves in my back leading to leg pain. And a recommendation by my physiotherapist gave that I swear by is elevating your legs with a pillow or two and if your a side sleeper putting one between your knees and/or ankles. I also love watching reset videos and I do weekly resets as well as monthly and quarterly ones :)
My issue with 'dark college romance' is that I absolutely cannot relate because I was a poor, lonely, studious, working-two-jobs-at-time student having existential crises. Thinking that any of my peers were also murdering people wouldn't have crossed my mind. 🤨

I ready all of the TL Swan books in that series back to back. I thought the first 3 were meh, but really liked the Do- Over. it felt different than anything I had read. Still think about that one. :)

I think if by 20% book didn't improve and has big issues, DNF! thank you, next! and don't listen to people who can't handle criticism! it's a childish behavior and they will hopefully outgrow it in time. I know for sure that you didn't like several books that near and dear to my heart. but it's ok! for example I never noticed in "Hello stranger" that heroine doesn't care properly for her dog. I am not a pet owner, so didn't even catch my eye. and I am glad you pointed that out. I see more shortcomings, but still like the story for different reasons. Thank you for making truly great videos. They helped me in some dark times and inspired to own my love for romance.

That's what I always feel like about the illustrated historicals too!! I read two of the Evie Dunmore books because everyone liked them and I was like "these were written by someone who thinks of romance as a guilty pleasure and wants to *elevate* the genre" 😒 and I read part of the Siren of Sussex? I think it's in the same series as the one you just finished reading and I was like I don't think this is for me. I like the campiness of a historical, when it's a little silly and fun and maybe convoluted and contrived but still has the drama and the tension and the sexiness. I'm really sad Tessa Dare isn't writing anymore, she was my perfect romance author.
I’ve had my kindle paperwhite for a year and a half now and I’m so happy with it. I read about 1.5 hrs per day, more on weekends, and the battery lasts a long time, I’d say three or four weeks, maybe longer. If you want a paperwhite I say go for it! I wish it still had clickable page turn buttons, but otherwise love it. Keep an eye on the price cause sometimes they drop it randomly, mine wasn’t bought during Christmas or something like that.

I think it’s less roast everything, but just approach it more critically and from a kind of humorous standpoint! They both read such different books I’d be surprised if they ever find a book that they both 100% agree is great haha
I totally agree with you guys on when people don’t like books or characters that you like I agree and I can hear the funny points that somebody might make against them for example like the twilight characters, but then I still find their strengths or unique qualities, special and endearing regardless of whether someone else thinks they’re dumb… but I can usually see other peoples point and find it amusing as well. I guess it’s a little different because I’m not putting my opinion out there for the most part and you are so that’s why you’re hearing it but regardless people are still coming to your channel. I don’t agree with you on a lot of different books or hate on the books as much as maybe you do, but I still come here cause I like to hear what you have to say… 😅😊🥰
I totally get the comment on you can still like a book and give it a fair reading. I feel like the books you review that I end up reading are normally spot on! Sometimes a book will be highly regarded by the masses and it’s average in my mind. We’re all subjective and that’s ok!
my bestfriend and i have really opposite book tastes, and every now and then we will read each others fav books and she gets SO mad if i rip into the book, but i think it’s funny to talk ab the stuff i find ridiculous but then she takes it so personally. when she does the same ab my favs i still laugh ab it too like it totally doesn’t bother me! but people are different i guess 😅
I love your critiques. they are genuine but more importantly you are consistent. But there are some content creators who solely hate read. their entire channel is making fun of books and making fun of people who enjoy them and they never read anything else (or at least don't discuss it publicly). I follow one of them on Goodreads and EVERYTHING is 1 star and it baffles me when she picks up sequels of 1 star books and continues to hate it. that's just too much for me and not critique imo, even if it's funny. that's just hating at that point. I had to unfollow her.

I think some of the reactions to negative reviews have to do with the kind of tribal mentality we have cultivated on the internet... if you don't like something, you're automatically attacking people who do. It creates sides instead of just differing opinions.

To go off what you were saying about the narrator of Cassanova - I recently downloaded Den of Vipers on audible and for some unfathomable reason, the two American narrators were doing the worst British accents I have ever heard. I had a few different kindles and I definitely recommend the kindle fire and get a page turner clicker it’s snappier and the color screen is nice etc
