I will go to my deathbed saying: Nanci Griffith was/is one of the most under-rated, yet one of most influential, and uniquely great an artist, in both America and Europe, over the last 4 decades.
4 decades now since her first LP release. 4 decades of soothing, moving, angelic Music.
Kudos to all of NG's work; over her lifetime, and for making my own life a bit gentler, and kinder ~!~
Proof Angels do exist on Earth, if but for a short while.

When my boys were little, we listened to a lot of railroad music. On cassettes. Around the house and unforgettable road trips spanning the West. "Across the Great Divide" was one of the favorites of my older lad Nick. Godspeed Nanci, you stunning beauty of a singer songwriter songbird folkabilly artist and wonderful human you.

Nanci Griffith is a wonderful artist, composer, musician and singer.
When Nanci sings "There is a light beyond these woods (Mary Margaret)" her eyes got wet and shone with light. Nanci's entire face appears illuminated... She is adorable.

It is sure that like a great artist Nanci could entertain an audience by herself, with her guitar.
Nick, if I understand well,, did you play with Nanci before she became famous? who knows what wonderful memories you will have!!

    • @nickjohnson5376
      @nickjohnson5376 2 ปีที่แล้ว

Yep, some fond memories from Middle Earth. I left there in 1981 to go have a conventional life & raise a family & never really looked back. From a distance, I was pleased to watch Nanci go big & take some mutual friends along with her. I do regret never getting back in touch; but, hey, we are all saints of circumstance; and sometimes all we can do is continue to sing the songs. So, yeah; fare well, Girl. Ya done good.

She performed quite often in Taos, New Mexico in the 80's and it was always up front and personal! Consistantly one of the best performers to see in person!!! Townes Van Zandt performed on that very same stage as did Lyle Lovett! The Kachina Lodge and John Brown was the promoter! Right up the road is Red River that also hosted so many greats. Some of the best years of my life.

I love many of her songs, the pure strong quality of her voice, her tender rendering of being alive, steeped in southern expressions. Townes Van Zandt said her version of Tecumseh Valley is the best cover of one of his songs. One Fair Summer Evening is one of my favorite albums. Love at the Five and Dime is a treasure of American songwriting. Her singing Deadwood, South Dakota gets me every time. ** Thx, Nanci ~

I have seen her 3 times here in Ireland and it breaks my heart a little thinking that I never will again.
I have looked on the Internet often but can't find any news of how or where she is now.
I know she had either arthritis or Ms so she couldn't play anymore.
I would gladly contribute towards any support she might require if it were needed.
Her words and music, her voice and her spirit brought so much happiness to my life.
I can honestly say that I have been more than just a little bit in love with her for almost 40 years.
      Bless you Nanci.

@@tconnolly9820 What made you think/know she has severe arthritis or MS? Maybe you mean Dupuytren's contracture, which limits mobility of the hand because of thickening of the skin but I think she played for some time, even with this, maybe she had some treatment?

I think the title may be incorrect because in the video Nanci refers to 'Love Wore a Halo' as a song that hadn't yet been recorded and as being due to be cut that coming summer. The album on which the song appears is Little Love Affairs, recorded in August 1987, I believe. I therefore think this concert was recorded in 1987.
