Hi Suzi, maybe a little repointing and securing some of those top stones, you don't want a donk on the head while relaxing in the pool ,safety first 😊😊

Suzy those are all weeds for sure. Make steps out of those rocks especially that big flat rock you have there. Steps to get in the plunge pool. That corner would look great using your gardening skills. With the rocket you could make a beautiful rock garden or form planters using the rocks as a circle and filling the inside with soil. That would look great. Also you could use the rocks to make a retaining wall for a garden bed. You You could really make that corner beautiful. You could even make a stone bench out of those racks and have a beautiful place to sit. You could make that back area so beautiful and get rid of all those weeds and turn them into compost in an area in your inner courtyard somewhere. You have the vision, talent and skills to make that area.Look absolutely gorgeous. We both know those are not budleas. With the I'll capacity's round, I think or butterfly bushes. I hate to say it, but those are gonna look a mess when they get big. It's just gonna look like a weed garden. Sorry to say it, but that's just how it's going to look if you leave it like that. I know you are capable of doing a lot more with that area.Just take your time doing it. That dog loves you! He is a good boy. You are a animal magnate. I encourage you to do a lot more with that area.By your pool, it could be beautiful.
You could also repoint that of an area to make that ariel look.A lot neater, and those stones pointed so it doesn't collapse. Find somebody to help move those rocks and make that area look spectacular!! Use that slab leaning Up against the house, blow where you were on the roof to make steps to get up into the plunge pool. Then you have that other big slab of rock. Also, to make another step on the bottom.

Some fabulous ideas for the rocks Barbara. I will be landscaping the whole area for sure and it will have plenty of flowers. I want it to be full of colour and texture. One step at a time for me to see the vision. Keeping the weeds is a temporary measure to put nutrients back into the ground. I’m just allowing nature to do its thing at the moment 🌺🪴🌻

Maybe when you get to the point of using the dipping pool you could take some of those red bricks and put them on the outside as a step to make it easier to get in and then if you decide you like them and there steady enough you could paint them to match the cement.

Great job. You have a beautiful property. The "weeds" you were showing are wild spinach. They are incredibly nutritious. The young leaves are amazing in salads and the slightly older can be cooked for soups or sauteed, just like spinach. Take care.

That dog clearly adores you, but I can see there's a problem when you are going out on the road. If I were going out and knew I wouldn't be too long, I might let him in the house and leave him inside till I get back. You've already spoken to the owner, who seems very lackadaisical about where the dog roams throughout the neighbourhood, so they know you're not trying to steal the dog. Of course you might not want the dog to get used to coming inside your house, so that could lead to a different sort of problem. A bit of a dilemma.
Having said that, the videos of your Portuguese progress are always a lovely start to a Sunday morning. Nice to see that Summer sunshine! (I'm in Ireland).

Goose foot or wild spinach is a wonderful food. Extremely nutritional, plus it was the main crop for early cultivation in the Americas. both the leave's and the the seeds were a staple food a thousand years ago.
I understand it can take over areas of your Quinta, you can preserve the leaves like pesto, or preserve the seeds for protein.

Hey Suzi, great idea the plunge pool and in a great space of your front garden area. Some solar lights around the pool would look nice for those very hot evenings you'll be having, maybe one placed in the old oven for an ambient feeling. A very pleasant area to chill and relax. Maybe also after you paint the outside some gravel and ontop place stepping slabs/stones as a path to the pool but still keeping your green area with the wild plants ( not weeds ) back in Greece we eat so much of the wild plants growing, simply delicious 😋. Hope you are having a lovely weekend xx❤❤🇬🇷🇬🇧

Hi, hope this idea helps, it worked for me in Portugal for many years.
Make wooden frames to fit your outside windows. They need to fit on the outside apertures. Staple Velcro on the inside edge that touches your window frames. Cover very tightly with black fine netting . I use a back of a spoon to secure it to the hooked side of the Velcro. Adhesive is no good has the heat will destroy the glue.
The black fine net is easy on the eye when you look through the window , it’s easy to spray with water to clean, and stops flys, moths etc buzzing around especially in the evening as the temperature cools down.
Re your video last week, you may find your underground water supply is dependent on surface rain from your courtyard area.
As it’s been covered with building material ,water has not been able to drain into it.
Boreholes are normally many more meters in depth anything from 50/ 100 meters deep and l think require a license.
As you think your is about 3 meters depth l don’t think it is one.
Glad all going well and you are happy at your place.

    • @dreamlifeportugal
      @dreamlifeportugal  17 วันที่ผ่านมา

Thanks Margaret for all the info. I know it was a functioning borehole because there was a pipe underground running from it. I believe that maybe the pump is situated at the 3m mark and the water is below it so don’t think I will be able to use it without digging down 3m. It’s a shame but I’m connected to the mains and I will set up some water collection ibcs to irrigate the field 😀💕

Use those bricks to make steps to get into your pool. Use cement to make them and then cover the bricks with cement to match your pool.
Personally…..l would clear out all the weeds then get a load of top soil in to cover all the gravel and junky bits. Put down weed barrier first then put your top soil. Make a nice lawn. Maybe check the cost of turf compared to top soil it might be cheaper and easier in the long run.
I would also clean off all the dirt and weeds on top of the oven thing. It just looks messy.
Also why are you anxious to get rid of the outdoor bathroom? I think even if you don’t use it as a bathroom, which would be so convenient to have outside for several reasons. Nice to be able to use it instead of going in the house when you are wet from the pool. Or you could put a make shift shower in for when you get out of the pool. Or…just to have extra storage.
As for the pile of rocks. Could you not get some soil and turn that area into a a nice rockery? You could put herbs in it and low growing plants. It could be really pretty.
I wouldnt paint the outside of the pool. Leave it natural and it would blend in more with the walls of the buildings around it.
Sorry if I am giving too many suggestions but this is just my opinion. Good luck with all your projects. Greetings from Vancouver Canada

Thanks for the info on the plant. It seems to have a few names. The rod in the oven is actually an old oven tool that has got completely stuck In between the bricks. A handy securing point though, for this summer at least 😀💕

your roof is not that high so i was not worried. in the future, however, i heard that barefoot is better. human feet and hands have groves on them to aid in grip and suction more or less. of course, dont go bare foot if it slippery.

Thanks for that suggestion. I can understand why bare foot would be better 🦶💕

Bravo! Perfect cover! Will a strong wind affect the top corner around the stone? Kitty is soo sweet, anything you can do...I can do better! She has new respect for your roof climbing ability! Take pooch along...in car! I think he/ she is saying that, soo badly! Your strimming herb down makes it look like a lawn. Do the leaves have a nice scent? I see you have Queen Anne's s lace flower! Good idea to roll stones away, as snakes may lurk there especially in the bread oven...soon your van will be nicely.parked in your vintage carport. Nosy me...what is in the store room? Can you get a long sprinkler, an oscillating one that moves left and right. They work well, and wash off leaves as well. One would have to time it as you move it from place to place. It sprays high and far! What is the name of your smallholding? 🐝🦋💐🐈🐕

Thanks Nicolette. I will be answering some of your questions in Sundays upcoming video. I have decided not to park the car in the courtyard although there will be space for visitors to park. My car is quite fine where I currently park it in the shade of the olive tree 🌳💕
