    I think you did a great job of video. I just found your channel, liking it so far.
    Please take this the way it is intended, just an idea or suggestion:
    I fly a naturally aspirated Piper Arrow with a Lycoming engine, if I left it rich the way you had the red knob my plugs would fowl and I would have brown exhaust marks on my cowl, followed by a no start the next day. If it was -20 outside I do fly a little richer and it looked like you are still in the depths of winter in the video. Just trying to save you headache and cash.

      I leaned all of this building a 1,200HP Chevy 6.0 liter in my sleeper truck. I have fowled out way too many plugs. I have found controlling the Arrows engine easy compared to fighting with a computer to add or subtract fuel. I also taxi the Arrow lean. I recently learned this, an engine running on peak or lean of peak does not produce CO gas.
      In Aviation it is called ADI anti detonation injection, water alcohol, used to cool intake charge and cool exhaust. Was used with turbo-jets to add thrust during takeoff and keep aft bearings and N1 from melting, also made black smoke for dramatic takeoffs. Think B52’s. In a piston engine it will keep the combustion chambers spotless, knock lead off, de-carbon the engine, I have it on my truck. Only use it during boost. The FAA will not approve a standby alternator for me, no way could I get water injection but you being EXPERIMENTAL you could do ADI. My truck gets over 300HP just from blue windshield washer juice. Just a thought, it was widely used during WWII but fell out of favor to intercoolers, I use both but my truck is at max power for 10-15 seconds at a time so 5 gallons lasts several months.
      Your flights are amazing. I get to look down on corn, wheat, soy beans, hay or the slums of the city. I look forward to the video later tonight.

      @JollyRogerAviation  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@DWBurns ahhhh sounds like the “boost juice” we used on our twin turbo jetsprint boat. I’ve asked around when I fly with GA pilots at my airline about leaning while taxiing and nobody is doing it. Doesn’t make it right or wrong but I do think it’s a good idea. We lean our current NA, mechanical injected boat out at idle on the trailer with a simple valve, then open it before we back off the trailer. Jollyroger907 is our boat racing channel.

    Looks like a blast to fly that thing! I was surprised by how fast the approach speeds are. Much faster than the Cessna and SuperCubs I’m used to. How’s the glide with no power ? I’m guessing the wings aren’t real high lift as fast as that thing is.

    • @JollyRogerAviation
      @JollyRogerAviation  ปีที่แล้ว

      I guess it’s all relative really. It’s definitely not a super cub. It’s designed for high speed, long-range, efficient cruise and it does that very well. Best glide is 135 at about a 3:1 ratio. I haven’t fully explored that yet. I will say we did some practice approaches and pulling the prop back made a huge difference in how it glides!

    • @JollyRogerAviation
      @JollyRogerAviation  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There’s a bunch of different airspace classifications. Class A is above 18,000’ and you HAVE to be in an IFR (instrument flight rules) flight plan…ie….you can’t just fly around wherever you want. Below 18,000 you can fly VFR (visual flight rules) ie wherever you want…with some restrictions around airports who are classified D, C or B. D being dinky, B being BIG ie LAX, JFK, SEA etc. you HAVE to have a clearance to fly into a Class B airspace, even if you’re VFR and even if you’re below 18,000’. Hope that makes sense lol

    • @ianf2985
      @ianf2985 ปีที่แล้ว

      That makes sense.
      So as long as you stay in certain airspace and below a certain alt you are free to move around. So fun to see you banking around.

    You playing with fire with a Lancair Legacy flying low in the mountains, Just not smart if you ask me, This is not a super cub. if you have any issues you are going down fast hitting down at 100knots and it's going to happen fast. I get every once in a while, having some fun like this. But this is a high, fast cross-country machine. Now if you were in a stol plane more power to you. It is not my bizz what you do with your plane, this is just advice. I know for sure, knock on wood if you ever have an issue down low you odd are incredibly small you make it out. IMHO this is not the plane for fast low mountain flying. They come down very fast and hard if that engine is not running. On top of that you flying like this with less than 100 hours in the plane, that is just a guess but if I"m right that is not enough time for me to trust the engine. again JHMO This is a very good flying machine not a lot of crashes that I know of, however, it is a brick in the sky if that engine dies and great engines die all the time, Just not worth your life to get some good video. This is cub flying without landing IMHO

    • @JollyRogerAviation
      @JollyRogerAviation  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I’ve thought about your comment for a few days. I think there’s some risk to any flying we do. Crossing the cascades is a bit sketchy and it’s going to result in a crash landing no matter how high you are as there’s sections with literally no landing areas. Stevens Pass doesn’t exactly offer good options lol. I’ve flown lawn darts my whole career, most with two engines, some with 1 (T-34C & T-45A). I always try to have an out, a plan, but sometimes those options aren’t exactly good. I do respect your post and your opinion and it has forced me to think about the type of flying I will do in the future and what risks I’m willing to accept. Cheers & thanks for the thought-provoking comment.
