I've always thought of the Hyundai Kona as an old people carrier... until I drove this MENTAL Kona N. Would you buy this compact SUV over a classic hot hatch?
I just sold a stinger for a big profit and bought a CX-30 turbo--only because none of these were available and I want AWD--BTW --AWD makes a big diffrence at the local drag--this Kona will have a hard time getting off the line--but sitting up higher makes for an easier drive and keeps your front end skirts and rims from getting damaged.
@@602ouge Unless you plan on burning out your tires at the local drag the Kona N is not going to do those numbers reliably if at all--maybe on a mild sunny day with warm pavement.BTW Type R civics were running 14 seconds at the track--well off their time and so were many RWD muscle cars--running high 12s and 13s.Magazines dog the crap out of the cars and you need to look at the fine print--that time will have an asterisk at the bottom of that time saying it was the best of 3 runs or 5 runs.With the money I saved with my CX-30 I plan on renting a car next time I goto the track and the high end/exotic car rental near me rents out 2019 and newer AWD mercedes benz AMG cars for 200 dollars a day and those were running high 11s.You can check my videos out of when I owned a Stinger and I have a video of the staging area of all the cars around me-nothing but cars you see in magazines as far as the eye could see.
You have done a beautiful job of capturing your experience. This is very close to how it feels. The 8 DCT gear ratios are short and only 2 OD gears and the flat power curve means several gears can work at any given time. It's a phenomenal driving experience.
Hyundai's line up right now is so dope. Every car they have, im a fan of. I like what Toyota is doing with the GR line as well. Great stuff. I think I will buy an Elantra this year.
You are one of the first guys I have seen to actually know how to start a start/stop button car. Everyone for the life of me holds the button in. You only gently touch it and the car does the rest. That alone made my day.

I loved every single moment of this video. I'm amazed at what potential this car actually has. My dad had a Hyundai Kona back in 2021 and he let me drive every once in a while. I floored that car flat while driving in the manual gear mode (tiptronic). Was one of the best experiences of my life. Never felt such power and speed.
So I drove this car a couple of days ago along with the AMG A Class. This car is absolutely nuts and blows the AWD a class out the water.. I wouldn't want this thing AWD, it misses the point, it would feel too "safe". This thing feels lairy as hell and is an handful to drive... Great fun.. I've driven most hot hatches at this point and I have actually decided to order one of these.

probably not a popular choice but i would definitely have this over an i30n as a daily+track car. Such a hidden gem of a car compared to the i30 and you get added practicality
the amount of random shit i barely cleared on the highway here is crazy if i was in anything lower i would need a new bumper by now. This is one of the reasons I got the kona N. I was really tired of having a low car and dodging pebbles lol the comfort of knowing oversized speed bumps are no longer a threat is a nice feeling. Car still performs amazingly on turns and the rear end rotates really well when i lift off... I can understand having a low car for track driving but not for daily driving I did that for 10 years no accidents or issues driving low but i wanted to stop thinking about it and feeling this performance with out having to worry about being too low is underrated. I believe its the best daily car out of the N cars. En or Vn for trackdriving tho for sure
@@legioner9 I need to find a stock 1.6t and do a roll race. It feels like the EV pulls hard no matter what speed it's going. I have two WRXs with bigger turbos, so my butt dyno is all I'm comparing it to.

I think they designed it for the race enthusiasts to do a back seat delete, install a roll cage, 4 point harness, bucket seats and proper handbrake, that's why the back seats are so tight
GTI is not quicker trust me the kona N has more power than alot of these videos show its turbo tops out at 15psi but after it fuel learn it tops out at 18psi which changes its speed drastically... 90% of the videos out there the kona N is top out at 15psi which isn't the true potential of it same with the EN

2022 Elantra N is tied for first. Everything about the Elantra is amazing, both the cars are great tho. I’d probably get the Kona because I love hatchbacks
I did a build on the Hyundai site and those rims weren't an option and based on the video I can't tell if that's a white paint job or more like a greyish white color paint job. They have very limited options on the site for the exterior.

Konas design looks so wierd to me its like they were making a car but changed the design mid production. Especially if you take a look at it back and cover the top half by your hand you could see its like two totally different cars glued onto each other.
I have a 2010 skyline crossover 3.7 v6 same as 370z.It feels better then the hyundai kona in every way imaginable.Modern cars have gone backwards and are unenjoyable especially turbo cars

The Kona N is selling out plus the I30N has been selling well the last few years. I reckon the Kona N makes sense to have AWD given its setup.

The gearbox (wet DCT) would certainly last another horsepower to 300-320 horsepower. 🤔
The 8-speed DCT is rated for 470Nm and there are tuners in Germany that safely get 350-360hp out of the engine with just chiptuning.

I have a normal Kona (120hp from a turbocharged 1l 3-Cyl) and it's an amazing and comfy car. For some reason I have paddle shifters too 😅
Dsg paddles aren't uncommon nowadays, I never use them though

Im driving a 210Hp Kona electric which has way to much power in the front wheels so I cant imagine what 280 Hp does to it. Or is it AWD?

It’s front wheel, but I guess you will have a lot more torque in the very beginning because of the electric motor.
