I hadn't considered using a dark red as the wash stage, so that's definitely going in the list of things to try when I get round to painting my orks. Was looking at glazing some red into the shadows after watching a Vince Venturella video, but this way is undoubtedly quicker on an army's worth of Boyz.
Love this video. I tend to like more subdued colors for Orks/Orcs/Orruks as well and you really nailed it here. The reddish hue from the shade was a great touch!
Honesty, I got why Orks are normally seen has a joke, we get to see them has joyful idiots that more often than not blow themselves up and laugh about it. But like you said in lore they are terrifying to fight. Also, amazing job might do use these tips if I ever get around to painting my Kruleboyz.
Amazing scheme and well worth the time invested. Only other thing I generally enjoy in more "realistic" Orks is blending in pinky flesh tones for the lips.
My Kommandos kill team has been sitting in the box because I just couldn't decide on a skin tone as like you I didn't like the typical almost fluorescent green you normally see. After seeing this tutorial your method produces just the color I've been liking for! I'm going to dig out those old Kommandos this weekend and give your style a spin. 😁
I really like the way you do ork skin, I still have my kommandos to paint and I think once I start them I might use this scheme on them. Great video Andy thank you.
That's a great skin recipe for orks. It looks great. My orks are several different shades of green of varying intensities. There's even some non green ones in there. One of my kommandos is purple so he can be extra sneaky.
Mediocre Hobbies: "Orks have been pushed to the side of comic relief and I don’t think they’re that at all." Also Mediocre Hobbies: "Here’s how to paint an Ork in a barrel!" 😂 (Yes I do watch basically all of your videos 😅 Seriously though keep up the great work! It’s really inspiring and I’ve been waiting for this guide.)
Great video, look a lot like how i paint my orks. Only exception is that i use "human" skintones for the ears and lips and parts of the face. Its a matter of taste i guess. Once again great video and a great "skin color scheme".
Love your work, I get what you mean with "more realistic". Tragically most of my Orks were painted in the 90's with Dark Angels Green, Emerald Green and Grot Green, to get that layered look. So I can't do your method without the new boys standing out like the reproductive organs of a canid. I lost interest in gaming the boys when Phil Kelly wrote the new codex and they lost almost every trait and became target practice for everyone else. I don't like to hold onto things generally but that one sits up there with the hand of god.
What bugs me about this box is the two teams don't seem like they should be together. Tank bustas vs. halfling snipers just seems like a weird combination. I have no interest in this box, just here to support your channel.
To help add a little fluff, imagine command get intelligence that the tank bustas plan to intercept a very important convoy, given the limited resources, they decide that speed and stealth could neutralise the threat.. etc.

I use wine red from ak interactive from underneath with the airbrush. Makes them pop

That's a totally awesome and straight-forward scheme I've seen for bleak realistic ork skin, liked! ^^
Thanks!
Man thank you so much pal. That’s so kind.
The new sculpts look fantastic. Nice job on the skin. Look forward to seeing the finished model on the streams 👍🏼
Brilliant idea doing a video concentrating on just one specific aspect of a model. Super informative. Love to see more.
This is really very helpful. Your stuff is so clear and easy to follow
A brilliant paint job, thank you. Yes it makes the Boyz very realistic and fearsome, I shall try this 😊

Is Ork blood red?

I remember that Orc head from when I was in Warhammer World. It was in Bugman's Bar when I was there.

Awesome ! Thank you much

I love the way you paint orks, and like yourself I prefer a more toned down appearance for them.

Gork or Mork? Great video as always! Cheers!
It's a good skin scheme for Orks and works well. 🙂
Nice 1 andy. So u layer the blood berserker/plague bearer painted skin with the straken green right? Just so i can make it make sense in my noggin :D
Yeah, that bright, glowy green doesn't exactly scream "grimdark" does it?
Love this scheme! Thanks!
Love it
oh boyyy i'm trying this!
Nice technique
Ugh. Now I have to decide between this and Darcy Bono's scheme. Tbh I want to paint my boyz kinda purpley, cuz I hate my life.
Interesting cheers
Wow that’s a lot of boxes back there! Those all unopened?
They are all sealed.
@@MediocreHobbies It's an investment!
@@MediocreHobbies daaaaaaaaaang. quite the collection!
I’m not happy with how my kommandos turned out… I have the first three paints you used 🤔
Give it a go and see how you feel! 🤞
er everyone able to get it? it was sold out so fast :( and cant order it anymore.
These type of boxes usually do sell out but the teams will be out separately pretty soon
Eh, speed paints and highlights come out better
Oof. "Different" is probably the word you're looking for. "Better" is entirely subjective. Certainly faster using speedpaints.

@intzbk1 I know you mean, reading their rules made a little bit more sense though but I had the same thought!
Cheers for the support either way 😊
