Russia has warned the US and NATO that they are going to be conducting nuclear exercises related to their tactical nuclear weapon disposition. They said this is due to increased western aggression related to the ongoing war in Ukraine. We compare a few different map services and discuss what I think is and isn't important when looking at those. Finally, a US Soldier has been detained in Russia, here's what we know so far.

As always Preston, great podcast!! You always hit the mark!
Yea people will complain about which map is being used, especially during offensives but the disagreements are very minimal from a larger picture. Especially since this channel doesn't focus on a day by day analysis of the conflict but rather a more strategic perspective. So it doesn't really matter which one you use
What matter are man power, resources and logistics, when manpower and logistics collapse thing can turn over quickly
@@thousandsish and that is the context that daily maps show, the russians are targeting certain logistics routes, which i remember Preston questioning why the russians were pushing a certain town/village not long ago.

Thanks for the information Preston.

I think Russian is using nuclear threats because France is sending its troops, British are promising for long range munitions. Both sides are opting to increase the intensity of war, no one is attempting for mediation between the two parties, just who supplies who
They are attempting mediation. The issue is unless russia fully withdraws from all Ukranian land, Russia will have justified nations invading other nations.
Please dont make me point out the mass of interventions in the last 40 years by the west. @@Khronogi
So far the intire west was completely ridiculous.. "Okay Ukraine, we will give you weapons.. as long as it doesn't hurt Russian feelings"

The threat of nuclear was has happened before, due to Russia stationing nukes in Cuba, an act the US claimed was effectively an act of war. At present Russia is in an actual war and seeing ever increasing NATO armaments appearing in Ukraine - and likely many 'subcontractors' helping Ukraine operate many of them. How much do we want to poke the bear? Brinksmanship didnt work too well in 1914.

The whole "F-16s as a nuclear threat" thing kinda on some level makes sense. On the Nationstate level when you make a doctrine for nuclear war you need to plan for the possibilities. The F-16 is capable of carrying the B83 Nuclear bomb with minimal/no modification. This would play into the calculus for Russia the same way that Russia putting Iskandrs in Cuba would. Iskandr isn't necessarily nuclear, but it could be.
Exactly, if the shoe was on the other foot. Russia providing Nuclear capable aircraft to Cuba or Missiles to Cuba would be seen as a major provocation.
@@SamAdam87 If the US annexed part of Cuba and invaded, would that be seen as a major provocation to Russia?
@@quintrankid8045 This is literally playing the who started it game. But to be consistent, yes, if x country does y, the other country can do the same back.
Russia has said the same thing with HIMARS, ATACMS, Storm Shadow and other weapons platforms that are all nuclear capable.
On one hand, if Nuclear war broke out, Ukraine would have the capability, if supplied, to send nuke strikes deep into Russian territory. On the other, would Russia call a 1950s B-29 bomber a red line also? Since it's nuclear capable as well.
@@SamAdam87 Russia did provide nuclear-capable aircraft to Cuba. Many Soviet-era tactical fighters and Beagle light bombers were capable or even expressly designed to drop nukes. Nobody was dumb enough to think the Russians would actually give key-control of live nukes to put on them. Not even in 1962.
We have such a bright future 💥💥

Thank you for the videos! As always it is appreciated! I fully agree that the maps both seem fine to use for these videos as we are not on the ground making tactical moves.
As of the trolls, they will always find their way to war commentary videos, nothing you can do about that but shrug them off and know the rest of us are here for your experienced opinion on these situations as they unfold.
Thank you and keep up the great work
I'm sensing your growing frustration
So when russian strategic bombers enter US airspace 10 times a year we can interpret that as a russian nuclear attack?
We do the same, but in zero of these cases on either side are they actually targeting and attacking each other's men. This is.
@@Alan-a-Dale484 Ok, but then what about the constant Russian use of nuclear-capable aircraft against Ukraine? Presumably, if they did target Ukrainian troops with a tactical nuke it would change the diplomatic situation. It's never clear whether the ordnance is nuclear until the last minute. Yet, it doesn't change the situation when Russia repeatedly carries out missile strikes and airstrikes that are potentially nuclear. They fire ballistic missiles at hypersonic speeds towards the West whenever they fire them at Ukraine. Their courses could easily change. These are nuclear-capable missiles! But the West doesn't bother with performative outrage every time.
It's pure fucking nonsense.
@@SavageHenry777 Ukraine isn't the United States, a nuclear power, or under anyone's nuclear umbrella.

Thanks I use Deepstate map have not heard about the other one.
Isn't Russia itself using weaponry that can be configured with nuclear capabilities?
Yup. A little ironic isn't it.
Yes. Like Iskander ballistic missile or Kinzhal which is also a ballistic missile but made hypersonic.
RE: the nuclear threats topic
I feel like we've just gotten far too used to being super risk-averse in global politics. If your opponent knows that you will ALWAYS back down, no matter what (in this case to avoid a confrontation potentially involving nukes), then they have ZERO incentive to back off at any time. All they have to do is threaten and they get what they want. It's the reason why we adopted the whole "we don't negotiate with terrorists" slogan in the first place, because it incentivizes that behavior.
At some point, we just have to call his bluff, come to the table and say "hey, look... here's how it is. If you so much as aim that nuke towards a friendly country, we will unleash our entire nuclear arsenal at once and your country will be turned to ash. Stop playing games and communicate like an adult." Putin is getting EXACTLY what he wants out of these nuclear threats because he knows that western politicians are more concerned with looking like peacemakers to win their elections than they are with defending ideals.
We should be out there publicly saying that every time Putin makes a thinly veiled nuclear threat, we will escalate Ukraine's capabilities with more and more modern and significant weapons. One threat means we send 50 F-18s. Another threat, we give them the longest range ATACMS we have. Another threat, we give them a stealth B2. Another one, we give them a tactical nuke. We can not be afraid of threats, or he has already won.
good idea except thats what russia is doing. one threat of sending F-16s, they send a nuclear threat. threat of boots on the ground in ukraine? nuclear threat. its unreasonable to think that you can help ukraine on the battlefield and not expect a russian response.
The question is why is Russia threatening the use of nuclear weapons
You haven't been following the goings on, have you.
did you watch the video?
Simple: they are trying to scare European voters (elections are coming) from supporting Ukraine.
It's because that is the only tool they have that can keep the west from being fully involved. It has worked wonders so far.
Because they view F-16s as a threat because they can be loaded with nuclear capable missiles. It's far fetched but that's how Russia views it.
Personally, I always prefer a 3rd party map just to avoid as much bias as possible but it's probably not a big difference on the large scale. However, any Russian or Ukrainian affiliated map is a part of information warfare I believe.
I think when you have a break in the line, if one map is reluctant to update until it is all over while a more updated map shows this progression.

OK Preston, I have to call you out on this one, I really agree with you a lot however, our scientist’s repeatedly warned about the effects of those bombs to their military contacts and even the president himself! Heck, there were even fears among some of the scientist’s that the initial test would get so out of hand that it could seriously damage the earth, not to mention, the president even warned Japan that they would be hit by weapons of such power that had never been seen on earth before, and then after the first one was dropped, he warned them again and we knew what the first one did, so to say that we didn’t know what the effects would be is not factual. And furthermore to use them, knowing what they could do or even suspecting what they could do on primarily civilian targets just because no one was going to respond, quite frankly, I don’t even know how to respond to that comment! Yes, the Russians are talking crazy stuff again but in this video you’re not far behind.
Not to mention that we knew that Japan was trying to negotiate a surrender through the Soviets. And we had removed the portions of the Potsdam declaration that had allowed the Emperor to remain and threatened Soviet entry into the war because we knew Japan might accept it. The United States of Hypocrisy. Lol
Good points but none of the scientists during the test were worried it would seriously damage the earth. Before the bomb casing had been designed or even the first output from the plutonium production plans the question of setting the atmosphere on fire was raised if that's what you're referring to. But very quickly after that it was ruled out by better math and just continued on practically as a myth in popular media.
