    "What is High Profile?"
    By Default, it's R2 / RT / Shift. It helps to think of it as your "run" button. (It's incorrect, because it's so much more than that, but I know a lot of people get confused.)

    This system may not be the best in terms of mechanics or input accuracy, but it is still my favorite. The sprint animations feel realistic, the jumps look effortful, the vaults look flashy and feel satisfying. It makes you feel like your character doesn’t just know how to free-run, they’ve mastered it.

    • @LeoKRogue
      @LeoKRogue  4 ปีที่แล้ว +66

      It's solidly "Fine," for sure. It's certainly not, like, _offensive_ or anything, and it works pretty well. I'm generally quite happy with it.

      Rogue in my opinion parkour sucks because if i try to do parkour down he just tackles npc not just enemies but civilians and its annoying. Also shay’s story is to protect innocents and he is the only one in the series that can without desyncronization

    I always found the wallrun assassination to be extremely sensitive and powerful in the Kenway saga, capable of flinging you up to 15 ft in any direction regardless of whether you can actually see your target and block breaking anything, including bears and most bosses

    3:10 The wall run eject change happened because the Kenway Assassins do a little hop at the end of their wallruns. The "you can eject as long as your feet are touching something" rule still applies here, their feet just aren't touching the wall during that little hop animation.
    Also sort of related to this video, you can do a Kenway style instant drop from any height in the Ezio games. Simply punch whilst in high-profile and approaching the edge, the closer to the edge the better. 1 or 2 steps away from the edge seems to be about right. I'm not sure if this was mentioned in your classic parkour guide, but I thought I'd say it here.

    • @LeoKRogue

    • @LeoKRogue
      @LeoKRogue  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Heh... There's not much to say in terms of Valhalla movement.
      The entire 'guide' would just be; change Crouch to Hold rather than Toggle to make Slides easier to do.
      Not much else I can say about it, movement in Valhalla is really simple and doesn't have any advanced actions.
      No proper ejects, no directional catch-ledge, no detaching from a wall whenever you want, etc
      I wish there was more to discuss, but that's really all of it.
      Maybe one day, Assassin's Creed will give us interesting movement again.

    One thing that is super useful about the vaulting mechanic is that if you are just holding High Profile and there is another raised object near you you will often jump from on top of the fence you want to go over onto that object instead of simply continuing to run on the ground. By using vault you guarantee that each jump will end with your feet on the ground, meaning you will never accidentally run up something or jump to another surface in the process of moving over a table or fence.

    • @LeoKRogue
      @LeoKRogue  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes! I neglected to mention this but stuff like this is exactly why you'd want to use it. It keeps you firmly on the ground as much as possible and gives you more control in certain contexts.

    Leo K, free run down was in assassin creed 2 to revelations. I remember seeing free run down and doing it in the Ac Brotherhood Virtual Training Race Tutorial

    • @LeoKRogue
      @LeoKRogue  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes. I've covered this in previous videos. It's probably in my Classic AC Movement Guide, and definitely in my AC2 All Contracts Commentary at the very start.
      It is NOT doable from every height in AC1-Rev. Only on short drops. Hold High Profile without any other button and the Assassin will smoothly drop off short edges.
      What makes it different in the Kenway games is its button combo, and the fact that you can drop off a skyscraper if you wanted to, the system won't stop you.
      I figured people should know the differences between them.

    Great video, Leo, good to see some more content from you. I do, however, have a couple things to add:
    *1.* Holding legs/jump when free-running causes your character to jump higher/farther, which can be useful in specific instances. However, it does tend to lead to much more floaty jumping animations, which can be somewhat jarring.
    *2.* Holding drop in High Profile allows your character to slide underneath obstacles much more consistently.
    Other than that, I think you got pretty much everything. Great video again, and I look forward to everything you’ve got in store for us.

    • @LeoKRogue
      @LeoKRogue  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yup. The floaty jumps are objectively better than stalling out/stuttering at edges, IMO. It's much, _much_ more intense in Unity.
      Good comment though. I don't have much in store, TBH. It's been a struggle to even want to do anything.
      I truly only made this so people would stop bothering me. 😅😅😅

    • @jcers
      @jcers 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yea, using the _standard_ parkour input in Unity still looks kinda floaty, lol.
      And yea, I totally get it. Regaining intrinsic motivation can be insanely difficult. The important thing to remember is to be kind to yourself throughout the process and not to ignore your moment-to-moment successes. This video you put out today is one of those. Give yourself a pat on the back :)

    Thank you so much! I really enjoyed this one, because I normally don't see you talking about AC 3 to Rogue, and AC 4 was the first game I played. So, I think that I have a question for you.
    Since Ubisoft has announced a Prince of Persia Remake, I began thinking about how a Remake from AC 1 to 3 would be like, and, although I have some ideas for some history remakes (minor changes that don't change the whole story, but improve it, like including the side game of Altair to the first game, having the Ezio Trilogy in one game, and including the deleted scenes from AC 3 and it feel more connected with 4 and Rogue) I think it would be much better to ask you about it, because your someone with a much better understanding of AC than me. How would you make an AC remake from AC 1, AC 2, AC Brotherhood, AC Revelations and AC 3?
    On a side note, thanks to your videos, I decided to buy Ghost of Tsushima. I'm really enjoying it!
    If you don't have time to answer this comment, I'll understand, your time is really important, and I know that no matter the wait you'll always bring us something of great value.
    Thank you!
    (Sorry if this comment has some bad english, but I tried my best)

    • @LeoKRogue
      @LeoKRogue  4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Thanks for buying Ghost of Tsushima, it's amazing and it deserves people playing it.
      Now for your questions.
      I would keep the Ezio games separate. They stand to lose too much if they were all smushed into one. To truly make them powerful, proper Remakes, they would seriously need to be allowed to "breathe" on their own, as three Remakes, one for AC2, Brotherhood, Revelations. I strongly, STRONGLY feel this way, I feel that we'd just get a really underwhelming game, and they'd use the fact that they're all in one package as an excuse to create something sub-par. With a full Remake of AC2, AC Brotherhood, and AC Revelations, each one can be a properly expansive game with its own systems that don't all have to adhere to the same assets or coding, necessarily.
      Now, as for AC1, there's not enough content in AC1, The Secret Crusade, and Bloodlines to justify splitting it all off into separate games, so for _that_ I _would_ be fine with it all being one game. AC1 is really, really short compared to all the others and it has a lot of filler in it as it is now. A big Remake would work to address that, I'm sure.
      With all that in mind, I don't trust Ubisoft to create strong remakes/remasters at all. They've all been very low-quality when compared to the incredible work studios like Bluepoint, and Capcom do.

By the way AC Valhalla seems like it will be good for the story without a doubt because of Darby. I know parkour is like Origins which is a bummer and from the looks the combat is a mix of Odyssey’s and Origins but the stealth looks like origins. Social stealth finally being back in assassins creed but a much bigger way too is exciting.

    One thing I'm finding really limiting in Assassin's Creed 3 as I'm replaying the entire series before Mirage comes out, is not the Parkour itself but the ability to cross the large Gaps in Boston (Haven't got to New York Yet) from Rooftop to Rooftop, the distance is too big to cross by simply jumping and you can't even catch a ledge you'll just hit the ground first.
    There aren't as many of those Rope Beams as there were in the Altaïr/Ezio Saga, and like I said the Gaps are too big to jump across at some times.
    I often find myself going in the opposite direction of where I want to go on one stretch of buildings until the gap gets smaller or I hit a Rope Beam or tree that closes the gap between the buildings going in the direction I need to go & it honestly makes me wonder if the Parkour in Boston is worth it as I have to either fall to the ground or backtrack in the opposite direction of my objective until the gap in the buildings gets small enough that I can Jump it.
    These problems are essentially gone in AC4 & AC: Rogue though so no complaints there.

    • @LeoKRogue
      @LeoKRogue  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I definitely feel that, I found that very troublesome in AC3 as well. It's part of what informed my desire to really highlight how many Ingredients, including connector-lines (ropes and beams) there are in Mirage, and how high the density of those elements is.

    Hey Leo,big fan of your videos,even ended up buying the ezio collection because of your classic ac movement guide and I'm having a ton of fun in Ac2.
    One question I have to you is something I feel isn't discussed in the community.We all know that origins and odyssey,and most likely valhalla,lack essential parkour mechanics that defined the Assassin's Creed titles in the past.But we don't often talk about why it is this happened.
    In my eyes,its to due with combat.
    Since we moved from an animation based style combat,we no longer have a fighting status and as such,the buttons need to do one thing ALL the time.One example is how high profile and legs could mean parkour in a non combat scenario and dodge in a combat scenario.But now,high profile button(R2 in ps4,because it's what I play) is now heavy attack and heavy attack always needs to be heavy attack.When you are on the ground,fighting and even sneaking,R2 is will always perform heavy attack,with the exceptions of being perched or attached to a wall.
    My question is,do you think it's possible for these two systems to coexist?Do you think its possible to have a souls type combat with dependable button inputs aswell as having those buttons do different actions like parkour,legs,high profile?
    Would love to hear your thoughts on this,maybe you might even have some ideas.

    • @LeoKRogue
      @LeoKRogue  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's absolutely possible for both systems to coexist, that they don't is definitely a Choice.
      You can still have High/Low Profile and you can have Light and Heavy attacks be a thing, they would just be performed through whatever Profile you happened to be in at the time. A Light Attack would be Attack in Low Profile, and a Heavy would be Attack in High Profile. Having Hidden Blade selected would attempt Assassinations with the attack button. You can still have all actions be consistent from state-to-state and have deep movement, and you can still have the game behave without combat being a minigame separate from the stealth and movement. You don't even need paired-animations.
      Stealth and Movement being simplified are both a result of the Profile System being removed, 100%.

    This type of parkour doesn't have enough mechanics for a longer vid, does it? Nice job.
    The only little detail that is not mentioned, and I understand why, as it has little use, is that holding a stick in a direction actually gives momentum to your movements, and extends/shortcuts them, often merging two separate animations into a shorter one. It's mostly noticeable while climbing. Stopping the push of the stick at the right time can prevent undesired progression in movement, like jumping on the wrong branch (which happens way too often). Very situational, but still, I think it's a neat detail to be aware of. Especially considering how automated the movement is.

      I have. It's fun but it's very clearly a handheld game. Not something I would go back to. Aveline deserves another, main game. She's really cool.

    I'm having a tough time performing side ejects in AC 3 Remastered. I've recently switched to a PC controller, hoping that it'd be easier to pull these off, but it's not the case. Sometimes I do them without any trouble, other times it's just impossible, as if the input didn't register with the controller. Any hints?

    • @LeoKRogue
      @LeoKRogue  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The only thing I can think of is just that the timing window for it is very tight if you do them during a wallrun. Easiest to just be holding onto a ledge before doing one. Black Flag and Rogue don't have this issue.
      Also, I haven't actually played AC3 Remastered, just the original game, so it's possible this issue is something else entirely specific to _that_ version of the game.

    • @matys6760
      @matys6760 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@LeoKRogue Thanks for your response.
      Yes, I noticed that the timing window is extremely low. However, I realised that it's more consistent after doing a wallrun in the middle of a platform, for example on stacked wooden boxes. When I do it, I pull off a side eject more often. Not always, but definitely more often. On the other hand, when I stand against a solid wall with no ledges to catch, both upwards and sidewards, Connor easily side ejects several times in a row only to stop doing it whatsoever after these several successful attempts. It's quite weird. I thought it rode on a camera angle, but (unfortunately) it wasn't the case. Or this is the impression I got from it. That being said, performing a side eject after catching a ledge is much easier, albeit less flashy.
      Furthermore, I don't remember if side ejects were more consistent in the original version of AC 3. Perhaps, but I won't bet on it.
      What's funny is that I know that it's possible to do side ejects consistently. Jcers has a video clip in which he does them without a fail. So either it's a matter of getting used to the timing window or [insert a proper alternative].

    I have a question, when you do the instant drop thing how do you stop your character from tackling a poor citizen?

    • @LeoKRogue
      @LeoKRogue  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      You don't.
      Hold Drop/Loot from far enough away that the character doesn't tackle.
      If you started holding the button way back, you won't tackle even as you reach the edge.

    I know this isn't movement related but, can you throw smoke bombs in Black Flag and Rogue the way you could in AC III? I ask because I can't aim with the smoke bomb activated and the only thing Edward and Shay do is throw it at their feet. This is bad because compared to previous games like Brotherhood, Revelations and AC III in which you could throw bombs at distant enemies, now I have less ways of using my smoke bombs while traversing BF and Rogue.
