I lived in Springfield over 30 years and worked just a block away from Lincoln’s Home. I would walk the site almost every day and be amazed at the visitors from all over the world. I have really enjoyed your series on the presidential sites. Thank you for all you do.
It's funny, I lived in the Champaign area until I was 30 and never went to Lincoln's grave. I've been to his home but really think when I go back home I'll check out the Lincoln tomb
I live 45 minutes away from Springfield and worked in Springfield for 7 years. I went to many field trips to visit the Lincoln sites while in elementary school. I couldn’t wait for you to show Lincoln’s resting place. I don’t know if you had a chance to visit the museum, but it is a great place to visit. I live in Decatur and we have an original courthouse Lincoln practiced in and other Lincoln noteables. I had told you before that I walk my dog in a local cemetery daily, so it is nice that you were able to visit and see that in our area it is common place for activities. Thank you for the vlog.
Well steve, you just completed my tour of Lincoln's life. I've been to Ford's theater and all of the other points of interest but I have never been to Springfield. Thanks to you I now have enjoyed something that I have always wanted to do. And may I say, you did a great job! Thanks again and have a great day
I think it is a great idea to allow people to walk & exercise there - helps with security & also provides some historical education too about our Presidents! 😊👍
It's nice to see how reverent the people are that are visiting. They stood quietly and I noticed one man had removed his cap. Today, not many people do that. This was a very interesting video. Thank you, Steve.
Our family visited there back in 1956 when I was pretty young. I remember the outside of the tomb but not the inside so I was really happy to see that you videoed it. We did get to go into the house and I don't remember much of that either but I do remember the living room seemed small even to a young kid and had a rocking horse in it and that in the kitchen they had a loaf of bread that was hard as a rock (we kids thought it had been there since Lincoln had lived there, ha, ha) Thanks for the tour, Steve, I thoroughly enjoyed it!
This was such a special video and so very much appreciated Steve. I live next to a small cemetery and it feels good to see it also used for walks or biking, etc...Back in the day they were meant to also be parks and people would actually come and pay their respects and then stay and have a picnic. As long as the cemetery is treated with respect, I think this is a wonderful idea. Thanks for sharing this Steve and have a wonderful weekend. Blessings - Judith 🎭🎤
Steve you do just such a great job on these grave visits especially the very famous ones. I don't know if you learned this but while watching another video on Lincoln and his final resting place. It was documented that he has been moved 17 times since his first internment. He was moved so much that in the early 20 century (1901) his coffin was opened for a small group to make sure literally that his remains were still there. They in fact were and it was said remarkably were preserved.
Great video Steve. It’s the first time I’ve seen Lincoln’s tomb. It’s so nice that the town keeps up his home and things. Ty for showing all of us a part of history. ♥️
Another great video, Steve. My partner was from Springfield and when he'd go home to visit family I'd go with him and always visit all the Lincoln sites. We'd usually stay a week with his brother and sister in law and that was plenty of time for leisure visits to the sites without being rushed.
Me too... l visited there once 12 years ago...it was a surreal moment for me standing in front of Lincolns Marker for the first time...l felt it again when you filmed it...Thank You!
You’d be VERY hard pressed to find a city that celebrates a former son the way Springfield does with Lincoln. It cannot be understated how much is there. Besides the tomb and home, a presidential museum for Lincoln, plus the train station he departed from and from where his body was returned to is there, plus the law offices and the former stat capital building. Safe to say, if you have about a week and time to burn, driving from Kentucky west to Illinois, you can hit all the sites and get a good scope of the story. Oh, and if you are interested in the macabre, the story behind the attempt to steal Lincoln’s body and it’s subsequent movements and final burial is a yarn worth spinning too.
I think all cemeteries should allow people to walk their dogs on the paved area, not the grave area and make sure they have poop bags and trash containers (which most have at the edges of grave areas for people to discard flowers, etc. I know I never will get to see Lincoln's grave so definitely appreciate this vlog.
I have seen this Tomb before but did you know he’s buried behind the stone 15 feet down in cement so his body he could Never be moved again good job Steve as always thank you for all the hard work you do
Took the tour about a month ago. Got tickets and had lunch around the corner while we waited. Definitely worth the wait, there are a lot of original artifacts in the house including the wood burning stove in the kitchen and Mary's own private bedpan in her part of the master lol.
Great job Steve, His son was there when they transferred his body to the present place. They opened the casket to make sure that it was him. He was embalmed so much that he was well preserved! I also shared this vlog on one of my groups on Facebook, Famous Graves, & Historical Sites, & Theme Parks. Just today I received my, "I'd rather be Grave Hunting" hat from your sight! I love it. My wife just shook her head! LOL!!
There is a peacefulness showing President Lincoln's tomb house library I've been to all of them and it's so beautiful and peaceful thank you for reshowing me my memories have a safe and happy trip stay healthy peace
I was born and raised in Illinois. It was a must go field trip for our school district back in the 1960's. I was in awe of all of everything, especially the capitol.
My favorite President. I've been waiting for this one. It brings tears to my eyes. After reading so many books about him, this brings it to reality. Somehow it seems surreal just to watch, so I can't imagine what it is like being there.
I love the color scheme of the house. I've never seen those colors on a house before. Beautiful. Thank you for taking us to his tomb and house. Both are beautiful.
Hi ! Awesome ! This is quite the monument dedication to Lincoln ! The first site was very nice and then he got a beautifully elaborate new one ! Beautiful cemetery ! Lots of people with family and dogs ! Nice house he lived in ! Thanks again for all your great vlogs! Stay cool ! Deborah Canada
This was the closest I'll ever get to Lincoln's tomb. Thank you so much for giving myself and others a front row seat. I do think it's awesome that cemeteries in different locations allow walking and bike riding. Beats doing both on fast main roads and breathing emissions. P.S. I'm waving back!
Thank you Steve i really enjoyed this video today, He does have a lot of people that come and vist his tomb which looks fabulous and peaceful. I can not believe his childhood home is still standing like it was when he was living there, such a beautiful home.
This is a legendary video Steve . I am 1.5 hours away from Springfield. I'm a big history buff and a high school history teacher . I love the Civil War Era and spend a lot of time teaching this to my kids . Thank you Steve for this video . I appreciate it .
I just watched a video about Lincoln yesterday. It made me cry. He was an American hero. He's one of the best president we've ever had. With JFK and Trump being behind him.. I live in Illinois. I'll def be traveling to Springfield to take my kids to Lincoln's tomb and home.
The Lincoln boyhood home memorial site in southern Indiana is also a very interesting and neat place to visit for tourists and fans of Lincoln and history and in general
Also the graves of his sister and mother. A personal note my great great great great grandfather was a friend of the Lincolns in Southern Indiana. He was the county judge who young Abraham would go and sit in his courtroom and watch the trials. It's where Lincoln learned the law in Boonville, Indiana. Judge Zacharias Skelton.
Another highly interesting video . You being us to places we will never get to physically. But make it seem like we are there. Didn't know people leave pennies for President Lincoln ! !!. 🇺🇲🇺🇲
I grew up 60 miles from there and we went there a lot. To see the house it’s best to go early morning weekday. That is not his only home though. Not far from there is the restored town of new Salem. He had a home and business there. The entire town has been restored to what it was when he was there. It is an experience.
I grew up in the Chicago area and our 5th grade trip was to Springfield to see New Salem where Lincoln lived as a boy, Lincoln home and tomb. That was in 1967.
Loving your Presidential graves tour Steve. Sorry you didn't get to see the inside of Abraham Lincoln's house. There are more places to visit concerning Lincoln than any other American President. All of them are very good to visit.
What a great video! I visited Lincoln’s home in 1975 and the memories of the garden are still so vivid. This was a very special video for me thank you.
I want to express my gratitude to your donors and of course you too for this visit. I will not have the opportunity to visit these places which would be at the top of my list so it is a matter of WONDER that I can at least see them through your videos. Thank You again 😊
No i never have been there and seeing the outside of the house is enough. Seeing where Lincoln lived as a boy was a treat and where he was first buried. He is the best president ever and then george Washinton and John F. Kennedy.
I grew up in a suburbs of Chicago and took many trips to Springfield as a child. I never appreciated the beauty of Lincoln’s tomb and home until taking my own family there and touring the cemetery there to see actual Civil War graves that you realize what President Lincoln did for our country, and how many families sacrificed loved ones in that war. Also his home is so small. Seeing how they lived in that time without luxury and impressing that upon my children was something I’ll never forget.
That’s is an absolutely beautiful site for a great president!! Probably my favorite so far that you have visited so far. Wonderful job filming this video
As a exchange student in 1974 in Minnesota, I was very happy that my host family, the Bendorfs, took me on this trip to Illinois because they knew I was crazy about Lincoln's life. In Springfield I was very fortunate to visit Lincoln's Law Office, his tomb, his Home as well as New Salem Historic Site. I enjoyed that trip very much and I thank my parents very much for that. I am from Brazil. Congratulations and thanks for this video.
have been to both and you did a great job showing both. We took my 10 year old on a "Lincoln Tour" when she was in elementary school. We visited Ford's theatre, Peterson House, Gettysburg, Lincoln's birthplace, his home, and final resting place.
live in springfield!! Oak Ridge is a lovely cemetery...always people about. it's put about that Lincoln is buried under the grave marker....in fact, he's in back of it. Springfield claims Lincoln for our own. BTW, the boys room was at the back, by the back porch. I bet they went out the window many times, and GONE to play!!!
Very nice footage. I will one day visit this. I have gone to jfk and I love visiting mount Vernon. The advantage of growing up in Maryland being so close to famous graves
In 2008, a young 11 year old Joe would visit his first ever Presidential grave site, that would be the grave of Abraham Lincoln. I’ve been to Lincoln’s Tomb about 8 times now, and it’s my favorite presidential grave site, no question. It’s what started it all, he’s my favorite president, and it’s the only presidential grave site in my home state. I was even able to visit the tomb on the 150th anniversary of his death, on April 15, 2015. Awesome video as always, Steve!
Hi Joe, I remember you talking about this in your video with Kurt. You're lucky to live in the same state. And that's pretty awesome that you're able to attend on special events like that. I loved his neighborhood. It really was like traveling back in time. Thanks for sharing with us!
I think cemeteries that allow recreational activities are much more vibrant and ultimately better kept up. Beautiful spot Steve 👌
Abe Lincoln's embalming fluid
I lived in Springfield over 30 years and worked just a block away from Lincoln’s Home. I would walk the site almost every day and be amazed at the visitors from all over the world. I have really enjoyed your series on the presidential sites. Thank you for all you do.

One hour from my home. His nose has been that way for over 50 years. The Lincoln library and museum is amazing.
If I could go back into time and visit with someone in the past for a few hours, it would be this man Abraham Lincoln.. wonderful wonderful man.
I live 45 minutes away from Springfield and worked in Springfield for 7 years. I went to many field trips to visit the Lincoln sites while in elementary school. I agree if there's not people around it makes people visiting more vulnerable to crimes of opportunity, well said !
It's nice to see how reverent the people are that are visiting. They stood quietly and I noticed one man had removed his cap. Today, not many people do that. This was a very interesting video. Thank you, Steve.
Indeed.

Been there. Fabulous statues. Such a beautiful place.
Such a beautiful neighborhood. Looks so serene. His gravesite is beautiful. This is such an amazing trip!

Looking at his inside tomb filled me with emotion and nearly brought me to tears just to see where this great man is buried.

Agree. So humbling to stand in front of this great man’s sarcophagus.
I’m glad they have persevered homes like Lincoln’s.
I would like to visit this place some day. I agree Abe Lincoln was our greatest president.
Such a beautiful memorial to President Lincoln I really enjoyed and Steve have a blessed day Karen

Great to see the Lincoln grave and his home museum. My parents took my brother, sister, and I on the tour of Lincoln's grave and house in 1968.
Wonderful video, thank you for posting this. Truly one of our greatest Presidents. I only wish he could know that he is held in such high regard.
Lincoln is undoubtedly the most beloved American President! For me he is the greatest statesman I ever read about. His humanity is infinite.
I think all cemeteries should allow people to walk their dogs on the paved area, not the grave area and make sure they have poop bags and trash containers (which most have at the edges of grave areas for people to discard flowers, etc. I know I never will get to see Lincoln's grave so definitely appreciate this vlog.
This is a bucket list item for me personally. It really is like going back in time seeing his home and neighborhood preserved!
