Thanks for watching our brief tour of our current home city! It's a smaller city, but we've come to really appreciate all that it has to offer. Now we want to know: Have YOU ever been to Illinois?? Let us know in the comments below!
Hahaha I KNOW. I think that happens to everyone who lives in a semi-touristy area. They see it so much that they often forget just how cool their home is! But yeah, our downtown is actually pretty cool and has some unique sites!
LIve in Springfield and grew up in Auburn. Familiar with everything! You showed at first but didn't mention the covered bridge outside of Glenarm. When I was a kid you could still drive across it. Been eating horseshoes for years and never have I saw anyone try to eat it like a sandwich!
Oh that's cool! Yeah, we really like Springfield and think there is a lot more to do here than people give it credit for. Have you done a lot of the things we mentioned in the video?
Yes!! It was so cool to meet up with other creators in REAL LIFE after seeing so many of their videos. We could have talked about TH-cam stuff for a week. 😂 Thanks for checking out our video!
I went to Springfield last summer and we had a really fun time! I was surprised how good the food was, from horseshoe sandwiches to cozy dogs to Maid-Rite.
Hey Ruth and Tom. Just discovered your channel today. 2-16-22. While just looking at videos on TH-cam for Springfield Illinois. That’s my wife and I’s Hometown. Born and Raised. But moved to Texas in October 2020. I like all the shots you took in your video of Springfield. Brings back memories. We miss it there. The Restaurants, our family, but growing up there we seen everything there is to see. Ya know. But the main reason we moved away, simply, was the weather. We just couldn’t stand the winters anymore. But just wanted to say it’s cool to see a video on TH-cam highlighting Springfield. A lot of people down here have never even heard of it. So Thanks for putting one up! Down here there’s no Culver’s, Hardee’s, etc.. So there’s things we miss a lot there. Take Care.
Oh cool! We kind of did the opposite haha - we lived in the Texas hill country for a little bit, but then moved to Springfield in 2017. We really enjoyed the hill country - TEXAS IS BEAUTIFUL. But thanks so much for your support! We think Springfield has so much more to offer than people give it credit for and it became a nice home for us. NO CULVER'S?? That's so sad.. guess you'll just have to supplement with Whataburger haha
@@RuthandThomas Springfield is a nice homey town to raise a family. But the winters are just too brutal. We originally wanted to move to Florida cause we Love Florida, but our plans fell through so we picked another warm state.
@@lowendthumper205 I lived for 25 years in those brutal winters and moved to Chicago when I was about 25. Met my husband there and 2-3 years later moved to Missouri where my husband was from. And I always tease my daughter that she had a song written about her. Allen Sherman sang a song entitled "I Was Born In Lutheran Deaconess Hospital in Chicago, IL". I lived one block from Lincoln Park and one block from the Hugh Hefner mansion.
I grew up in Springfield, IL and Girard, IL. I always remember that our first house in Springfield cost us all of $7,000. Boy, haven't prices went up a lot?
I hung out at Lincolns home as my Mom used to give the tours. I used to sneak behind the roped off areas and just hang out and fantasize I lived there.
very cool video, guys... we have Springfield on our list along with about 100 other places,... You know what I'm saying... lol I think I'm looking most forward to the horseshoe though.... hmmm haha
Thanks guys! haha yeah, the horseshoe really is one of the coolest things Springfield has to offer. It's not the healthiest meal you've ever eaten, nor is it the tastiest, but it is an experience that everyone should have at least once in their life 😂
Awesome thanks for sharing! Moved to Springfield Illinois 4 years ago. We take a walk everyday in historic west Springfield. I post videos of homes and clips of our walks on facebook. Great to know you live here!!! Blessings Salo👍❤
Welcome back guys! Hope all is well and good to see you guys out filming again! The horseshoe sandwich looked...well...notorious... holy smokes😮😮😮. I'd be lights out after that😵
Thanks! Glad to be back. I don't know how regularly we'll be posting videos, but it sure feels good to be back at it for a bit! And hahaha yeah, the horseshoe is something else. I think when it was originally invented it was more of a classy dish - with homemade potato wedges, thinly sliced cuts of pork and sauce on the side. But now it's just the epitome of midwest bar food, and (if I'm being honest) I have yet to eat one that is truly delicious 😂😂
I'm considering moving to Springfield from a suburb about 30 minutes out from Chicago. I decided to randomly look on Zillow and found some places that were 1-2 bedrooms for $600-$700 a month, something unheard of where I am. The lowest price around me is $1200 per month! So after seeing that I decided to do some research and found your video! It's super interesting to see all these cool places, I really hope I can move out there soon. I found out my job has a location in Springfield as well, so I'm really hoping to transfer! I got to go to see The Lincoln Museum and Lincoln's Tomb when I was in school for a field trip, it was so cool and I did rub Lincoln's nose haha. I hope to do it again sometime soon :)
That is so cool to hear!! Springfield is certainly a very affordable place to live, especially when comparing it to somewhere like Chicago!! Good luck with the transfer and let us know if you have any more questions about Springfield!
The fries represent the nails of the shoe. The sizzling platter is supposed to represent the hot anvil...while the name horseshoe comes from the shape of the ham used on the original sandwich
Aw thanks guys! We haven't been consistent over the last few months with posting on TH-cam and have had a lot going on, but we're hoping to be more consistent in a few weeks!

The Knights Action water park and family fun center looks like a decent, medium sized place. Glad you are back, hope you enjoyed the rest of your trip south.
Yeah! Knight's Action is pretty fun and families around here get season passes and go quite frequently in the summer. We've only been to the waterpark a few times, but we really like to go there for the drive-in and mini-golf. It's the only place in town to go mini-golfing!!

Hi there! Yes, Chatham is a nice area to live as well as anything on the west side of town. The area around Washington Park (like a 1 mile radius around the park) is a great place to find rentals! A lot of historic, more affordable homes.
Whaaaaaat!! Thomas, did you seriously edit that one?? It was amazing! Well done guys, really really cool how you put it all together, such a fun video 🤩
