Not proper sausages, that is not a rasher, no chips on a breakfast, and no soda bread you are missing out- try to leave the city to get an actual experience of good Irish food - A good pub on the outskirts would have a cheaper option with better quality and also supporting the small local pubs. You were robbed
I agree with Kerryn you are going wrong places that pub used to be called the William tell .You could piss at the bar whilst ordering a drink how times change .Opa
I understand that - I was on a whistlestop trip of just 2 days so travelling about was at a bit of a premium. I am hoping to return to Ireland, probably in the spring to get around and about a bit more and find the more authentic experiences!
Wow, what a great looking building, so bright and colourful, great name too. A great looking big breakfast, almost identical to the full English breakfast you get here. Nice looking traditional pub too, great review Greeno. 👍
Went to Cork about 25 years ago and had the white pudding on a breakfast and I also liked it better than black. I usually ask for bread and butter to mop up the juices on the plate too.
Looks good! My Grandad was a Shannon. Came over in the 60's ....He though we were backward here cos we still had slam train doors. In Dublin they head futuristic sliders! ;)
Brilliant review, huge portions food looked delicious. When ordering always asked for bacon and eggs to be cooked to your liking. Keep the posts coming - love them all
99% of the time I just order "as is" when filming - I just think that's the best way to show what you would be likely to receive as a customer if you were to visit...
As a tour guide in Dublin a few years ago, I told people to avoid Temple Bar. They will only meet other tourists and pay well over what other places charge. Walking around Temple Bar is nice, but one drink tops to get experience if absolutely want to. (I say to all the tourists all of this). Would love you to do another trip to Dublin some time and try the places locals recommend. I do understand you had limited time, but your Irish subscribers could give some great tips for places if you like. As always, no matter where you are, I enjoy your videos and hope you come back and try a spice bag again lol.
Glad you’re enjoying our green isle buddy. Pity I didn’t know you were coming over. I could have shown you around. Temple bars a tourist trap Greeno. I have to say though that brekkie looked alright especially taking into account the size and cost of it. Great value for temple bar. I used to own a sandwich bar down there. Great review as always. Oh before I forget. Gary doing a review in Danny’s place and Danny was actually there. Then who walks by in Bradford, only the man himself, GREENO🎉. Brilliant. I loved it 👍
I always enjoy a trip to Ireland - my first time in Dublin in many years though, been to Limerick more often. I may have my own review of Danny's place coming up this week :-)
FYI Greeno that’s not Temple bar , the temple bar area is from Dame street to the river. It was a bus station back in the day before it became a tourist hub. You were just off grafton street , it’s a nicer end of the city imo.
I live in Dorset. I was in Dublin. That also says Tourist I guess haha!! I will be back though, so if you have recommendations of where the "good stuff" is then let me know!!
Absolutely agree with you, Greeno. Tea is the way to go. The full Irish breakfast looks fantastic but fries? That's a no, no. Replace the fries with hash browns and you've got the perfect plate of food.
I was in Cong many years ago very much at the end of the summer season. I asked the B and B owner where would be open for some dinner ( tea) and she said try at the pub. They weren't serving food but the generously rustled up some boiled ham, cabbage and potatoes...boiled, mashed and fried. I knew the Irish liked potatoes but three types on one plate? Novel!
1/10 - Due to the eggs not being runny. The eggs make the breakfast for me. I wouldn’t have been able to eat it. Rest of the breakfast looked ok though
You've a good channel here. I'm sorry I didn't experience the UK experience where my family was from. The US is much different, however you keep my heritage alive.
Coffee for breakfast every time for me, mind you that's probably because I'm not that keen on tea. Also don't get why people say if an egg isn't runny it's overcooked, in my opinion if it is runny then it's undercooked, hate runny eggs but as you say that's just down to personal taste.
You see this is the thing - it's hard to say anything definiteive, as different folk all have different preferences. But it would be boring if we were all the same wouldn't it :-)
An old friend of mine had Christmas dinner in his dad's house. He cooked roast potatoes, mash, croquettes, chips and colcannon. Five different servings of potato in one dinner.
Temple Bar? We used to have fried potatoes on a fried breakfast but that was it, no chips/fries or hash browns or beans but that was in the old days. Rashers, eggs, tomatoes, fried bread, fried potatoes and fried black/white pudding and maybe kidneys and mushrooms, if you could afford it. And brown soda bread, butter, all with a pot of tea.
The chips look smashing with the bit of skin on and fried mushrooms are a must, but they're not everywhere. Black and white pudding definitely the best, hash browns are whatever. I absolutely love bacon skin so that bacon definitely needed to be a bit more well done.
HI Greeno.Thank you for another fantastic video what a lovely old fashioned place you have found. Yes your full Irish breakfast looked great but looked to me like a brunch one, I agree with you that the bacon could have been more crispy and eggs were overcooked. I like everything but not a fan of black and white pudding and hash browns and surprised that you were given fries or chips. Yes it was good value and my mark is 4/5.
And I agree that tea is where it is at for breakfast -- almost any kind of breakfast. I always say that if you get up and you think it's going to be a shite day, have a long hot shower and get yourself a sip of freshly made hot tea. If the day still looks like shite, tough luck. But more likely, it's looking like an okay day at this point. No coffee in the morning. Coffee is there to fight off the lunch coma.
I was interested in your comments about the black pudding, it sounds like Irish and Scottish black puddings are made in exactly the same way. Also, it was nice to see a decent thick slice of black pudding, they're nowhere near as generous here (England) which makes me a not happy bunny! I reckon you should always, as the nice Iridh person suggested, try places on the outskirts of cities, you should get much better value.
Next time I plan to spread my wings a little further, I was just on a tight schedule so found the most recommended place close to where I was staying the night 🙂
One thing you can count on in Ireland is a fry up and that was decent value for the centre of town. Going back to your Jamie Oliver lunch video, I saw those chips in the supermarket yesterday. They're Bird's Eye Dipper Chips! It's great to know that Frozen Potato Product Innovation is alive and well in the 21st century :) 👍
Great review Greeno. I am partial to tea with brekkie at times. I used to love the fries in the North with Tatty Scones and Soda Farls as standard. Chips - really? 🤷
I think they must have ran out of hash browns and added the chips as chips were not on the menu!! Looked okay value overall including the tea. Really enjoying the channel, been following since you made your first appearance on Gary Eats channel. Keep up the great work.
have not been to that pub in ages... actually thought it had closed. standard dublin grade and fare they serve... pricey though but then it is Dublin...
I was in there last week, had the bangers and mash, very tasty, they have coddle on their afternoon meal which I'm gonna sample next time I drop in , thumbs up from me
When reviewing I normally just order as it comes, as that's the fairest way to show what you, as a potential customer, could expect to receive should you ever visit
I can tell Greeno is having a fab time in Dublin by the generous review haha. For me, the eggs and bacon are 2 main ingredients to get the cooking right and the eggs are well over cooked. Would liked to have seen a potato cake rather than chips and hash brown. The rest of the brekkie is fairly good quality and I like the look of the pub.
That bacon cooking is fairly traditional in Ireland. We don't cook it crispy and just don't eat the fat in general. I agree not as nice as crispy bacon, but at least you got the genuine article. The eggs were just overcooked. It looked pretty good overall.
That's interesting about the bacon - I have normally only had bacon in Ireland in hotel breakfasts, where it was normally a little more cooked than this
It's one of my pet hates with full Irish breakfasts that so many places undercook the sausages and rashers. Do people prefer it that way? I want crispy fat and some char.
I don't recall having bacon cooked like that on previous trips to Ireland - but often I have been staying in hotels rather than ordering breakfasts in pubs or cafes
As you know, I only cooked breakfasts for 9 years at my B&B so whenever I see breakfasts, I try to use my own breakfasts as a benchmark. On first view, the breakfast looks very presentable indeed. The sausages were bland looking and the bacon completely undercooked - it looks as if it had been boiled in place of being grilled. The black pudding also looked relatively uncooked but at the same time too dry. What if I cooked my old B&B standard breakfast and you came to review it on my channel next time you venture Oop North?
Love the look of the breakfast eggs were right for me lol 😆 but bacon 🥓 could be more crispy 😋 oh yes soda bread yes but overall 😋 a delicious breakfast, enjoy 😋
It’s a no for chips on a breakfast for me. I’ve been to Dublin a couple of times, though not recently and the breakfasts there have been really good. 👌🏼 I prefer black to their white pudding though.
When I saw the chips on the plate, I was shocked man lol Never in my life have I seen that, maybe they saw who it was that ordered and thought the best thing is to chuck a whole load of extras and hope you dont give them a bad rating! Its hard to get a really good full irish breakfast in the central areas of every city here.
Hairy Lemon is not in Temple Bar. Its near Temple Bar but its off Georges Street South, for whats its worth. Temple Bar should be avoided unless you like getting ripped off at every corner. Cheers Greeno.
Greeno are you ever coming up to Scotland? If you are… here are a couple of restaurants you must try Margo (must visit) (amazing smaller plates) The Butchershop (steakhouse) Swadish (amazing Indian) Roya (Turkish type cuisine)
I think you nearly said it all, except, get shot of the chips! But other than that, runny eggs, crispier bacon, more mushrooms and tinned tomatoes! Tinned tomatoes so you have a reason for toast to soak up the juice. I prefer the toast seperately so you can have some toast and jam to finish the meal with and a nice hot black coffee, sorry tea gives me indigestion! Also I noticed they put the butter pats on the eggs? Why don't they have the toast and butter pats on a separate plate? But like most of your commentators from Ireland are saying when you go further a field in the Spring you'll get better I'm sure!
Nice pub. Great name, Hairy Lemon. Not often white pudding is added to a breakfast or chips, but that would keep you going I reckon until 6.00 p.m. Was it Irish butter? 👍🍋
That looked bang on for me. That would be a breakfast I would eat before going out for the day on the beer before going to watch a 🏉 rugby international match six nations. So a 8.5/10 great vlog Greeno. 🏉 🏉🏴🏴🏴🏴
HI good video look's yummy ok eggs I take them as they are on arrival and tuck in straight away to the egg's it stops the cooking from hot side food. 👍👌👌
No runny egg on an Irish breakfast is criminal in my book😂 I always find beans, pudding and mushrooms are essential supporting acts to the staple sausage and bacon. Some do/ some dont give all 3.!
Have had that twice as supper rather than breakfast, due to working nearby and not finishing night shift at correct time. Only serving from 10am to 11.45am cut out most opportunities for more visits. I'd give it a slightly lower rating for a few reasons. I can probably name the brands of all the items they buy in, apart from the eggs and mushrooms. I really don't like loud music that I simply don't want to ever hear. I prefer my toast and butter to be on a separate plate. There's nothing bad about any of the food for me, and it's decent value for the amount, but it's about a 6.5/10 from me.
I forgot to mention previously that my sis. was in Dublin quite recently so must ask her if she frequented any of the eateries that you have been to (I know she gave up on the brekkie at the hotel she stayed in after the first day). I guess you looked up the conversion as you a pretty much spot on (today it's £13.46) :D Mentioned before that fries/chips have no place on a breakfast unless it's a brunch. Jeez. 3 hours to me Sunday lunch and, again, watching 'The Hairy One' I am already starving :)
I'm never prepared enough to look things up for the currency conversion - just a bit of guess work normally!! Sorry for making you wish it was lunchtime already haha!
Whilst it is unusual to have chips for brekkie I know hash browns are fairly popular ( USA ). Notice you're not keen on "regular" mushrooms, what about wild mushrooms?
Not overly keen on any mushrooms, it’s a textural thing rather than flavour though. I don’t mind the enoki mushrooms you get in Asian food sometimes though.
Hi, Your views are always fair , but to me it's about the quality of the Chef's care and presentation toward the food. They don't know unless you tell them, what you do and don't like and how well cooked you like certain products. I like mushrooms, my bacon floppy and my steaks well done. All the best 😁☯️🌱
The only place where you will get the soda and potato bread is in Northern Ireland well do the ulster fry try the pit shop in bangor very good place to go highly recommended
Personally I don't like chips on my breakfast or mushrooms. Beans are more of an English thing. That bacon was bang on for me. Overall it looked nice if a bit expensive for me. But seriously guys, stay clear of Temple bar. It's a rip off area for tourists. There are better and cheaper places around and out of the city and out of Dublin altogether. Great review, keep em coming
I really like that place and will def. go for food next time 😊 Came home from a weekend in Amsterdam. Did you ever made a foodness ( food and wellness) trip to Amsterdam?😊
Good morning folks - hope your Sunday is treating you well so far! Time for breakfast 🙂
Let me know what you thought about this breakfast - would you add or remove anything? Do you think it was fair value?

A gravy boat of beans is an inspired twist, allowing dipping, pouring and avoiding the mess. I like it! 👍

Love the look of the breakfast eggs were right for me lol 😆 but bacon 🥓 could be more crispy 😋 oh yes soda bread yes but overall 😋 a delicious breakfast, enjoy 😋
Yes, some things are down to personal taste of course Maureen, but overall it was solid enough!
Temple bar is the most expensive place in Dublin. No chips/ beans or hash browns with Irish breakfast
It is, I get that. On my next trip I will try to visit further reaches in the city !
a fair review that greeno! very good value!!!!! x
Thanks Paul, much appreciated!!
Drop the chips, nice thick soda bread reqd, glad you got white pudding Greeno.
I'd agree with all of your points!
It’s a no for chips on a breakfast for me. I’ve been to Dublin a couple of times, though not recently and the breakfasts there have been really good. 👌🏼 I prefer black to their white pudding though.
Yes, it was a bit of potato overkill, but at least the chips were tasty!
If they were tasty that’s all that matters. 👍🏼
The first bathroom I ever tiled was in the hairy lemon 🍋
I hope you work as a tiler, or that's a very strange story haha!!
@GreenoEats yeah I'm still a tiler 😂
That was a proper good looking breakfast for the money and gotta be tea with a breakfast.....
Yes, tea every time!
Love Irish sausages, bacon and black pudding.
An Irish breakfast is a rare treat!
Talking about Tea 🤩a constant argument i have with my friends is , should it be milk in first or last 😅
If you're making it in a mug, then it's milk last - but when pouring from a pot I am easy either way!
There is no argument. Tea in first so you can adjust the milk accordingly.😊
Haha, everyone was getting the same portion, no special treatment 🙂
Hairy Lemon is not in Temple Bar. Its near Temple Bar but its off Georges Street South, for whats its worth. Temple Bar should be avoided unless you like getting ripped off at every corner. Cheers Greeno.
Understood, my Dublin geography is not what it could be!!
Ya, and maybe mugged these days.
Greeno are you ever coming up to Scotland? If you are… here are a couple of restaurants you must try
Margo (must visit) (amazing smaller plates)
The Butchershop (steakhouse)
Swadish (amazing Indian)
Roya (Turkish type cuisine)
I do plan to visit Scotland, although it will probably be in the spring - it's already a bit cold and dark there now right haha!
I am with you on the eggs they need to be runny and that bacon looks a bit rushed crispy is the way
Agreed 💯!
Go to an actual breakfast place, close by, Metro on William St South. Seen Sinead O'C in there one morning.
I'll bear that in mind for next time, thanks!
Looked pretty good but chips don’t belong on a breakfast in my opinion lol. Great review as usual 👍
Thanks Stan 🙂
BTW that building should be in Norwich
Haha - yes indeed!!
Yes, this was just a recommended place close to where I was staying. I will look more into it and find something more "authentic" on my next trip!
Nice pub. Great name, Hairy Lemon. Not often white pudding is added to a breakfast or chips, but that would keep you going I reckon until 6.00 p.m. Was it Irish butter? 👍🍋
It was certainly substantial ! Kept me going for a good while :-) And yes, I believe it was Irish butter!
@GreenoEats 👍😅
That looked bang on for me. That would be a breakfast I would eat before going out for the day on the beer before going to watch a 🏉 rugby international match six nations. So a 8.5/10 great vlog Greeno. 🏉 🏉🏴🏴🏴🏴
It certainly would line the stomach for a day on the pop!
Haha, I watched the rugby and got a bit p**sed in The Hairy Lemon nearly 30 years ago. Glad to see you there.
Funnily enough most people who have been there have slightly hazy recollections!!
HI good video look's yummy ok eggs I take them as they are on arrival and tuck in straight away to the egg's it stops the cooking from hot side food. 👍👌👌
Thanks, I appreciate the kind words
Spent many, many nights in the Hairy Lemon. Great little pub. Never had any food in it though.
Just liquid lunches and dinners huh :-)
@@GreenoEats Eating is cheating. Guinness is a meal in a glass.
Mmmmm ! Without chips and with fried bread instead of the hash brown...... looks scrummy😊
Yes, chips and hash brown perhaps a little spud overkill!
@GreenoEats 😅
No runny egg on an Irish breakfast is criminal in my book😂 I always find beans, pudding and mushrooms are essential supporting acts to the staple sausage and bacon. Some do/ some dont give all 3.!
I always prefer a runny egg, although I guess some people don’t?
1st comment! Early I can still taste the toothpaste
Congratulations! :-)
Some fair comments there - thanks :-)
That black pudding looked grand
Indeed so!
@@GreenoEats Ok, I'll have to try those as I love mushrooms!
That's fair enough - I normally just order as it comes as that gives the fairest indication asto what the average punter would receive!
The only place where you will get the soda and potato bread is in Northern Ireland well do the ulster fry try the pit shop in bangor very good place to go highly recommended
Already looking into a Northern Irish trip :-)
Personally I don't like chips on my breakfast or mushrooms. Beans are more of an English thing. That bacon was bang on for me. Overall it looked nice if a bit expensive for me. But seriously guys, stay clear of Temple bar. It's a rip off area for tourists. There are better and cheaper places around and out of the city and out of Dublin altogether. Great review, keep em coming
Thanks Colin, your thoughts are much appreciated 🙂
I really like that place and will def. go for food next time 😊 Came home from a weekend in Amsterdam. Did you ever made a foodness ( food and wellness) trip to Amsterdam?😊
Amsterdam, nice ! In my previous job we had an office in Amsterdam, so I did get to visit a few times - I did eat well when I was there :-)
@@GreenoEats yes, the cheese and stroopwaffels are delish, have you ever been at Febo and had a bami scheijf? It is fried mii noodels, so good 😉
