- Watheroo is located on the Midlands Rd stretching north from Moora.
The old locomotive house, which is one of only two left standing in Western Australia, and the railway station are all that remains of the siding which dates back to the 1980's.
The RV stay is located in the town at the Watheroo station tavern and is free if you patron the Pub for a meal or a donation. (or even a drink and i can vouch for the experience)
The onset of a railway line that would extend from Guildford to Walkaway, meant that by 1894 the small town of Watheroo was buzzing with new people. The erection of the Watheroo Railway Station began in early 1894. By November 1894, the building had been completed, and the first train stopped at the new Watheroo Station on 24th November 1894.
Along with the buildings there was a 300ft platform, coaling tower, water tank, turntable and a loading ramp and crane, in 1941 a second engine shed was built to replace the original timber and iron building and is of concrete pillars with brick inlay, this still stands today
From 1894, when the station began operation, the Station Master took three separate positions on, he was not only the station master, but also the post master, and was responsible for the operation of the Refreshment Rooms . Today the Station is a community owned tavern so having a meal there not only helps the town out but pays for your RV stay.
West of Watheroo town is the Watheroo National Park spanning 44,324 hectares, accessible by Watheroo road to the south and eagle hill road to the north of the town. It’s sandplain country and a nice spot to see wildflowers. The best time to see the displays is between late July and early November. The natural landscape includes low sandplain heath, banksia and malley thickets. Tall eucalypts line the west side of the park.
The sandy plain has some unusual native plants. Including the extraordinary bush cauliflower and scarlet feather flower. The secret hideaway of Jingemia Cave is a distinctive natural feature tucked away in a band of rocky outcrops . There is a walk trail from the carpark that leads to the cave that is accessible from eagle hill road. So go and explore
